Pelican MOAS is the best english barleywine style ale I've ever had, best any barleywine.

    Cheers!

Just grabbed a DFH Olde Barleywine 4 pack. Sounds like it's time to open one!

I sat in the same chair I had my first BCBS ('15, and an extra in a trade). Both were equally wow-ing. I hadn't relived a beer experience anywhere close to the "WOW" of my first BCBS, but MOAS delivered. Again, an extra on this forum. A testament to the pursuit of quality beer, and more so, the quality of the folks on this forum.

Looking forward to this tasting and seeing what you bring to the table!

    Cheers.

I have a Great Lakes Bernese I might bring to the party. I believe this was a one time release, but I don't remember seeing any dating on the bottle. Anyone have any insight?

I agree, I had fresh BF before and enjoyed it. Ah totally forgot about the Troegs one, thanks for the reminder (although it looks like it can only be found on tap and it's oak barrel aged).

Sounds like fun. I feel like I've said this a million times, but maybe this next barlewine will be the one I finally like.:slight_frown:

Flying Dog's barleywine just appeared here. We don't get much Flying Dog at all, so I was surprised to see it. I haven't picked any up, but I plan to. Any thoughts on that particular beer? I just saw that it's English style, which means I'm kicking myself for not buying a sixer, since the few barleywines I see are almost exclusively of the hoppy American variety.

I am in. I will drink one or several of my barleywines. Probably several. Hopefully i can snag a new Kane Vengeful Heart as it is my all-time fave.

I've also seen Horn Dog listed as "American" though. I haven't had it in ages and can't comment, but the line between "American" and "English" isn't always as clear as it is with Lees Harvest and Bigfoot.

Sounds like time to crack a 2 year old Bell's Third Coast that I've been hanging on to.

I haven't had it in probably 5 years - but does sound more like "English" side of things.
Their website lists 45 IBU, and "Flavor notes: Malty sweet with hints of brown fruits (i.e. figs, dates, raisins) and a warming alcohol tingle "

I am going to be at a bachelor party or I'd be doing a Hell on Wood from Duclaw or DFH's Olde School.

Well, this is well timed! Not a fan of barleywines, but I am working my way through all 104 styles, and in my fridge is a Ridgeway Criminally Bad Elf, an English Barleywine. Almost cracked it last night, now I'll hold it for Saturday.

If I remember I have a few sitting. Working late that night. American BW is one of my favorite styles even though I don't drink them too often.

    Enjoy
