Greetings NBS friends from the sunny, windy and chilly southern shore. It wouldn't be a bad day except for the wind. I'm glad I logged my miles today while it was relatively calm. Before I move on to the beer I'd like to offer my congratulations to @Lingenbrau and family on their new bundle of joy. That's a beautiful family portrait!

A cool windy day is just another excuse to open this 12oz. can of Lost Forty Small Batch Release Nighty Night sent by the very generous @jvgoor3786 as part of a recent sneak attack of canned goodness. It's a blend of Cabernet, Bourbon and Rye Whiskey barrels with a healthy abv. of 11.2%. I'm pouring this 12oz. mystery in the Lost Forty pint style glass he so graciously supplied. Let's check it out!

Pours a medium looking viscosity dark cola brown leaving two fingers of creamy light brown foam. A thin coat of lacing is left as it slowly settles. The smell is bourbon, dark fruit including figs, raisins, and red grapes. There's a hint of tobacco, molasses, brown sugar and oak as well. Taste is bourbon forward to start, but quickly shifts gears to dark fruit. Figs, raisins and red grapes are in abundance along with tobacco, leather, molasses, oak and a hint of char. The feel is oily but slightly thin with noticeable alcohol heat from the 11.2% abv.

This is one big and complex barrel aged beer. The Cabernet barrel really brings a noticeable and unique fruity presence to the smell and taste that complements the bourbon perfectly. As with many stouts I wished for a thicker and creamier feel, but that smell and taste made me quickly forget that. I'm not sure how available this is, but I would buy it by the case. It can hold it's own with the best in my opinion. My score is 4.44 / rDev +2.1%. A big thanks to Jason for sharing this gem with me!

Going to finish my remaining ounces and watch the Daytona 500. I'm not a big NASCAR guy, but this race being a sign of spring is always fun to watch. Have yourselves a great Sunday! Here's the official scorecard.....

Another beer one of my son's brought in the house. I wouldn't have purchased it myself, but hey, it's NBS.
Pours heady with bubble clinging to the glass, yet cloudy enough that you have to struggle to see any carbonation in action.
Smells mildly citrus with strong coriander reminiscent of the old MH #9.
Tastes like a good Wit ruined with spices. That about sums it up.
I give it a 3.3, better than a lot of things out there, but I would have to be in a situation with some pretty poor options to drink this again.

White Chocolate (2017) | The Bruery

The Bruery - White Chocolate 2017
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a Bruery tulip glass. Vintage 2017.

Deep opaque reddish orange body color, quite an impressive light khaki colored head as well, reaching an easy three fingers, with light retention. Settles to easily a fat finger with sheets of ring like lace. The faintest bit of slow rising carbonation just barely can be seen on the glasses edge.

Many does the aroma hit pay dirt. Soft caramel and butterscotch like aromas, mixing in with real big vanilla tones. Yup as true to the bottle a buttery cocoa kicks in smelling just like white chocolate. Aromas are also nice and soft not overpowering either, with much complexity and exploring to take into. Great smelling brew.

Oh man. This beer delivers in spades. A surprising light bodied feel for a wheatwine, but certainly not wet and lacks a bit of chewy character, still providing a wonderful almost silky coating. That's the few minimal criticisms though. The flavors are just gangbusters. Mid palate hits with a light toffee crisp, touches of caramel waffer. The aftertastes is just a bursting vanilla and buttery cocoa, and truly tastes like cocoa butter. True white chocolate. Stunning. Like drinking a waffer white chocolate crisp in hand. Light touches of milk, and minimal sugars, a hint of little bitterness too with some light oak flavors as well.

I am speechless, I never thought this could actually happen, but there is the craft creating and barrel magic happening right there in print. This is one of those rare beers where I wish I could have this every day. I don't know how this gets more impressive as a wheat wine, maybe some more dense body, but then it could ruin it. I want a case. It will just hurt when I finish this in 5 minutes cause it will be over.

Happy Sunday NBS players. Congrats of course to the new pops and his growing family. My fiance has warned me, a few times, that if a picture of her were ever to appear on this website that I may not wake up the next morning. So I admire your bravery too.
Anyway, a cold, windy and sunny day here on the island. A big change from yesterday and the severe weather shifts really do a number on all budding plants. As is the case on most Sundays I'm not doing to much today. Relaxing, cleaning up the house a bit, and drinking beers. I've got at least 3 new beers so we'll see how many I can get to.

My first new beer today is Neutron, a dipa, from Moustache brewing co. Scored these at their can release yesterday. It features Denali, Eureka, and experimental hop x06297. The brew checks in at 9.1% and with a 2/22/17 canning date.

A golden amber pour with a fluffy and sustaining white head and extreme clarity. The nose is a mix of hops and citrus. Not terribly floral. Big and very bitter hops on the kick me right in the face on the very first sip. A pretty smooth flow that finished spicy and bitter. Citrus fruit notes come on as it warms with melon, orange, lemon, and lime. I also get a good amount of pine and a sort of herbal feel. The mouth feel is full bodied. It drinks big and heavy with the flavors lingering well after each sip.

Overall, a very interesting dipa. Have I mentioned it's bitter yet? Easily one of the most bitter ipa's I've ever had. Trust me I like bitter but at first it was a bit off putting but it's gotten much better the more I've been drinking it. Either from the warming or that my palate just got use to to it. I'm going to drink a few more this week and see how it does but right now I'm in the high 3's to low 4's range.

This next one is a slightly bigger one.
Adroit Theory Barrel Aged Invisible Arts

Solid, shiny black with a decent sized foamy beige head. Lacing is a little lazy and sticky.

Nose is very busy. Molasses, perhaps cherry, some caramel a little smoke and and some bit of dank hop buried in sweetness.

Taste is like Double Bastard on steroids, meth and ecstasy. You get this slightly dank hop thing with sweet depth until coffee and smoke rolls in. Then, if that weren't enough, the barrel kicks in. Cheap bourbon and wood alcohol heat intertwined with candy sugar. Exit is bitter and a touch hot.

Body is not as thick as you'd think, but leaves a menacing aftertaste of alcohol and smoke. Seems to be a commonality with Adroit Theory. Needless to say, I'm quite smitten.

Great to know, thanks. Someone at the garden center mentioned it to me last year, so the name rang a bell when I saw your post. I think I'll give it a shot at the edge of the woods - maybe even drink an NBS beer when I do.

This will be my chore beer. A little zing of coffee in the easy drinkin' Kolsch beer style. This particular beer is brewed by "Campanology Brewing" and sold exclusively (to my knowledge) at Trader Joe's. All that said, I am looking forward to trying it. The label art looks great, as a mix between Monty Python Holy Grail-eque animation with a cool Pokemon card holographic look. It's firing all my memories from my childhood up. The best part? It was under $4 for the bomber, which really gives me one question: how will this beer hold up in a review?

    Campanology Brewing's Adventurous Stranger.

Pours yellow with a touch of an orange fiery glow. A white head foams up to a finger in height, even after an aggressive pour, and retains moderately well. No lacing left behind. Aroma is decidedly light bodied, with notes of butter and biscuit malts with coffee. The coffees cuts through the light malts extremely well, and doesn't come off as too bitter or over roasted. Flavor profile is very similar with buttery, biscuit malts forming the onset of the simplistic flavor. Simplistic meaning the only additional note is coffee - and lots of it - showing up second and finishing the flavor profile. Mouth feel is a little fizzy, but otherwise medium-thin and a bit watery. There is a certain crisp finish to it as well. Overall, this Kolsch centers on coffee, which is great for those looking for an easy drinkin' coffee beer, but not so for someone seeking a Kolsch with some coffee. At 5.3% and with the coffee presence, this is a great beer to fulfill an post-mowing beer + coffee needs in the summer.

    Score: 4.25 | 4 | 4 | 3.75 | 4 | BA Score: 3.99 | rDev: 0.0% (first review)

    Personal asides:
I very much love coffee, and while that note is done quite well the buttery-ness is keeping me from rating it any higher. It does slip down smooth and will make an excellent car washing beer.

so happens it's Tuesday a 14.7 ABV Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels, from The Bruery. I don't buy many beers from The Bruery they are costly and imo not worth what they cost. This beer is good but a little to sweet for me and a bit thin. Not a bad beer but at $20.00 a 750 there are a lot of better beers.

Needed a new beer for today and I did not have one. Decided to stop at a local package store on my way to a 4 year olds birthday party (with my 2 kids). Walked in and saw this for $1.99. Its from 7/20/15. At 10% ABV I figured it would hold up pretty well and worth the shot at $1 a pour.

    Aroma: Pumpkin, alcohol 3.75

They only had about a week or so of notice, so I don't think they have decided if they'll find another place or not. The landlord jerked the rent up by 58% and demanded they start paying a portion of the property tax. I suspect he's already got a sweet deal from the city (they're building an electrical sub-station down the street).

Bell's Roundhouse pours a dark amber with some rust color and 3 finger dirty white head that slowly fades into a cap and leaves webbed lacing all over my glass. Sweet and roasted malts, caramel with some breadiness. Bitter piney hops follow along with citrus. Sweet malts and honey caramel up front overtaken by hops in the middle and finish. Some citrus, more bitter pine and a bit of earthiness dominate after the malts. Finish is a nice pine bitter. Medium body and very good carbonation with a bitter and dry finish. Enjoyable at $5.99 for a six pack.
