While it's not inexpensive, that modern re-creation of the New Dunn comes in a demonstrator version and can be found online. Looks vintage but doesn't need any reconditioning to get it to work. The folks who currently handle it can also do nib work and do the italic stub nib for an extra fee.

I'm not a word smith. I also rarely reach out to new beers. Think about that part; How many IPAs or PAs are out there? Anything new or untried going to blow my mind? Again I'd guess no. Even the new twists from the big guys are not above " they're good". There's plenty of GOOD, just very few of the really exciting. So why review something that's merely good? It's been done to death.

Thanks drtth, I'd like to meet that guy in the video. After retirement I've sold off most of the collectibles and put the money in the grandkids trust fund. Kept the fountain pens though. Who knows, they might actually use them.

The honeymoon beer review period is over, ehhh? Nothing lasts forever. Perhaps you just need a mental break. I quit reviewing so many times (different accounts) because I became bored. My last review was in 2008 if my memory serves me correctly..

At a diplomatic dinner a young man approached the great Talleyrand asking advice on how to taste wine. "First you pour it into a glass observing it's color", the old man said, "Then you swirl the contents while deeply drinking in it's aroma". A pause and the young fellow excitedly asked, "Then you drink it?" No, the old gentleman replied, "Then you set it down and talk about it".

Reviewing a beer is my way of talking about it.

Oh I get it, a good beer is good, and there's so many that are good. I really don't like to review much anymore, every now and then, but reviewing a special beer , the once every few years beers is a pleasure. Even then I might not, I'm not all that detailed , I could tell you like it, hate it, was just flat out special, but nuances aren't my thing I can describe.

I'll have to look more into those! Thank you!

I've heard about the pen whisper and the Philly Pen Show on the Fountain Pen subreddit. I have dreams of visiting both.

While I don't think the beer scene is as good as it is in Philly, this should be more convenient for you to get to.

Never been myself, but hear great things. Also, as I said, not sure about what the beer scene is like in the area

If I ever feel this way, I do one of two things:

    1. I will spend a few days drinking beers I have already reviewed.

    2. If I am trying a new beer, I will write down my ratings, and just a few key words or phrases that sum up my overall impressions. When I feel like composing again, I consult the notes.

Currently in this. I just want to drink a beer and relax. Not worry about intricate details.

You put it pretty eloquently. That sunset analogy nails it. I like to keep reviewing so I keep track of what I've had. Sometimes I feel like writing long reviews, other times it's a 150 character thing. There's an overwhelming amount of choices out there and it's impossible to keep up without severe health consequences. Don't sweat it, it's just beer.

I don't write reviews and rank simply by the numbers. Even that is more to track what I like and how it compares to other similar beers.

That being said, I post here mostly to say I appreciate the written reviews that folks post and often read them when researching a potential beer purchase.

I think it is personal. I check community and Bros ratings within beer styles I enjoy if contemplating an expensive purchase, but prefer to try for myself if price is not prohibitive. I rate for my own benefit and notice that my tastes have changed / evolved over time, as my recent assessment of some beers seems to differ considerably from my recollection of an earlier experience. I don't generally review as taste is pretty subjective and I am no wordsmith. I do, however, enjoy discussing a good brew whilst sharing it with a friend!

I religiously do reviews whenever I try a new beer, for a number of reasons. The main one is the frustration I've experienced while sitting in a taproom deciding what to get, and there are no reviews for a beer. It's also a selfish thing - a place I can go to review what I thought of a beer in the past so I can decide whether to get more. Sometimes, I am tempted to just say "Sucks" or "Wow".

I recently stopped reviewing because a health condition I developed gave me good reason to pump the brakes on drinking as much as I usually do. Once I did, I realized it became easier to just have 2 beers in a sitting as opposed to 4 or 5 because, when I was reviewing, I ended up being so quick with it that I'd still have half a beer left once I was done the review. Then I found myself drinking faster just to get to the next beer to review so I could then relax. Now I'm just relaxing with the beer which, I know, is what I'm supposed to be doing in the first place!
