Trying to gauge what It would take to get one of these. Any *quality* insight would be appreciated.

I would think 2 or 3 12 BCBS would do it.

If you can find someone out of GI distro I bet you could get it done $4$. Thats still a lot of BCBS (12 maybe?).

    As in Double Black?

Considering it cost between 3 and 4 four-packs in retail alone, I'm guessing at least a case, probably more.

You are being funny right? Double Black is at least $80 for a 750ml? OP, I have one and wouldn't take any amount of BCBS for it and I love BCBS. They rarity of the two beer are just too far apart to be made up with quantity IMHO.

I was just poking fun at the odd title syntax ("How much 12 BCBS...") - not a serious suggestion.

I traded one of my Double Blacks for Rare + Coffee + Vanilla + '07-'10 BCBS. So if you believe in the transitive property of trading (I don't), that would be about 40x (10 4-packs) '12 BCBS.

OP, I would consider trading mine for 1 case of '12 BCBS, 1 case of Zombie Dust, 1 case of Heady Topper, and some FFF on the shelf (non rares). Let me know if interested.

That's about $250 worth of beer man, that's pretty steep.

True, but $250 worth of shelf beer, either available year-round or in 5x quantities than seen previously. How much shelf beer do you think it should take? Clearly not $80-90, maybe $160 would be fair? I don't really know, but I do know that Double Black wasn't cheap or easy to get; so if you aren't going to trade like for like, it seems that you may have to pay for it.

Edit: also, to be clear, I was just trying to provide the quality insight OP was after. One example of a completed trade whose street value might be translatable to quantity of BCBS and another offer of what it would take for me personally to start considering trading my BD V for seasonal/year-round beers. No offense intended.

Are you serious dude? The shipping alone would be like double the price of a double black. This is why I hate beer "values".

Oh, of course shipping could be worked out. No need to be concerned about that.

Edit: and what's wrong with ascribing a high value to a beer that you hold in high regard? Should I only value my bottle at what I paid for it no matter what is being offered? This is a topic that has been beaten to death, so we probably don't need to go any further down the rabbit hole.

My final answer: one case of '12 BCBS minimum, but I wouldn't personally do that trade.

I'm not even sure how to make sense of this. Objectively, no one would trade a Double Black for anything less than one case of 2012 BCBS? Or, nothing less than one case of 2012 BCBS is "fair," given the difficulty and cost in obtaining a bottle of Double Black? (I'm not saying that you should trade your bottle for anything less than you value it, based on the criteria you choose to rely on. But that's just the point. Others may value their beer differently or invoke different criteria when considering trading, and that's fine too.)

By the way, OP and I have worked out a deal for three 4-packs of BCBS. I actually think BCBS and DB are of similar quality, so I'd prefer have a greater quantity of the former. I may be "losing" on the $4$ and rarity front, but it wasn't that hard to sit on my computer and order a couple of bottles of DB, and this saves me the trouble and expense of shipping out three separate boxes for three 4-packs of Bourbon County.

I wasn't commenting on objective values or fairness. OP asked for insight, I put forward what I thought was insight. Obviously since you worked out the trade for half a case, that's better insight. Still doesn't change the fact that I wouldn't do that trade. "Objective" valuation of beer, especially rare or sought after beer, is impossible; although I have heard there is a website that purports to do just this.

Damn! You got that much? When was that trade done, cause now you would be lucky to get Rare for a double black.

I hope you at least hooked the trader up with a complimentary reach around.
