Is that a different beer than the Leviathin IPA or did they change the branding?

So the beer man said this one was underappreciated. Not by me.

Great clear amber color, rising bubbles, new-leather and citrus aromas, sweet malt flavors and no booze heat in 8.2%.

Thanks @Scott17Taylor for hosting and advocating for a fine style.

Cracking open my latest beer acquisition. While I picked up in the store about a month ago, I sat it back down before I paid (yes, back in the correct spot in the cooler). After I heard about this tasting, I figure I might as well snag a 4 pack and see what Arcadia is up to these days. Shall we?

    Arcadia Ale's Cereal Killer.

Pours a translucent deep hue of ruby-red, almost like a hearty cranberry juice, except up top foams two fingers of butter-colored head. Aroma is teeming with sugary malt characteristics. Notes of fig, plum, caramel all project a sweet aroma over an earthy barley, and bready malt base. Lactose notes float around throughout the aroma. Flavor profile is very similar, with fig, plum, and caramel all along the initial blast of flavors. The sweet malt characteristics fade into earthy barley and malts with a lactose finish - almost like sipping the last drops of milk out of the bowl after eating a cereal from the health food store. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a slight graininess to the texture. Overall, this beer packs a wallop of malty presence, but is done in a dynamic that never feels forced. The sweet beginning with the earthy finish compliment each other well, never dragging any bitterness along the way.

Ahhh, now this is something I've wondered for close to a year or more: what's the difference between a barleywine and a barleywine style ale? I keep seeing the style moniker on beer labels, and it always throws me for a loop. It's kinda like Evil Twin's Liquid Double Fudge which styles the beer as a "Malt Beverage". What does the style mentioned after barleywine have to do with the beer inside?

+1 to my beer "wants" list. I'm guessing no bottling. Are growlers or crowlers an option?

Actually, I'm not sure I'd want a growler of that. Even a crowler might involve me texting an ex that I shouldn't be texting.

Same series, they used to brew the IPA, Baltic Porter, Barleywine, Czernobog, and a host of one offs, like Triticus a fabulous wheat wine all in the 12.oz format. Now it seems just the IPA are Leviathan Series. Fun while it lasted.

I do not think there is any difference, but that is the way I learnt the style/name, for what it's worth. Quite a few brewery's use the name in the beers.

    Cheers!

I love these tastings as much as anybody and setting them up isn't tough. Glad others are enjoying them as well.

Pour is muddled brown in color showing red highlights in brighter light. Head is light tan and lasts a minute receding into a fine ring around the glass. Smell is caramel and a hint of booze. Just a bit of oxidation creeping in due to my imperfect cellar conditions. Taste is more caramel, light raisin, some vague sweetness and just the start of oxidation. Mouthfeel is fantastic, full and rich wrapping the tongue but not overly sweet or sticky. Carbonation is still good. Overall, delightful. I am going to enjoy the rest of this now and check out what everyone else is drinking.

Was this meant for the WBAYDN thread?

Either way, I got a can of that as an extra in a trade I can't wait to crack it open. It's chilling as I type. I'm thinking it might be one of my first reviews for NBS. What do you think of it? It looks magical. Cheers!

This is another reason why I enjoy cellaring beers. This one has like a sort-of historic mark on it. 'last year they used the 12oz format'
Its like a peek back into the past
    Sort of tells a story

Not sure. Code is "6S8". I don't see a date, but I just bought it today. It looks nothing like @jkblr or yours. The rest of the sixer will sit and wait, patiently.

Well I'm busy tomorrow so this'll be my nightcap. It's sweet and the barrel definitely overpowers the base beer. Too much wine and raisin flavors. It's still great and I need to find the regular jw lee.
