Love the photo. It's like the Scarface of Lupulin powder...If Forbidden Root can keep the pace with Noon Whistle on these hoppy beer releases I think Chicago has a game changer.

If you're a Chicago local and like NE style stuff, get out and support them.

Well, looks like it's time to check out Forbidden Root this weekend. Anyone got any recommendations of other things to go to in that general area? I'm new to the city so will probably walk around (mainly into beer and coffee). Also, is asking a question like that too far off topic for a thread like this? maybe, if so, sorry.

There's a taco place right across the street. I've never been, but the tacos are cheap as hell, so worth a try.

There are a BUNCH of taco places around there. Also, Manny Thai is a couple blocks east, if you want Thai food.

Others chime in; that area isn't my most-traveled.

Fatso's is fairly close if you get down like that. Roots Pizza is close. I don't care for their style of pizza, but a lot of others seem to.

Pickwick Coffee Roasters is a block or so east on Chicago Ave. They're pricey but the coffee is quite good. On Tour Brewing is about a half mile south, and the GI taproom is a few blocks further. I rely on Lyft, so can't speak to how walkable the area is.

Dark Matter Coffee is a mile west of Forbidden Root on Western right down Chicago Ave.

Ah yeah, good call. I've only been to the one on Belmont, but they've got some nice coffee (and I'm not a coffee guy). I forget what it's called, but their Mexican hot chocolate is fantastic.

Love Dark Matter. I never realized they did a Mexican hot chocolate. Now I know where my daughter and I will be stopping tomorrow to warm up after checking out the green river.

West Town Bakery is also on Chicago Avenue and is a great spot for brunch or some desserts.

In fairness I think it's called Mayan Mocha, so it's coffee (not sure whether it's for your daughter or not).

If they have it, it's delicious, but be warned that it has a little spice. My gf asks for it without the chile sometimes; it's great either way.

If you're going to Dark Matter on Western, you may as well head up to Lockdown Grill. It's a better burger than...[thread rabbit hole] :grinning:

The Goose Island Taproom is only a half mile south, but they close at 6pm on saturdays. Totally worth a stop, and a good place to start.
Bangers and Lace is a half mile north, and one of the best beer bars in the city. From there, Links Taproom is on Milwaukee and only a 10-15 min walk. It was just named best beer bar in Illinois (though I prefer both Bangers and Lace and Hopleaf.)

If you want drink quality beer, it's an excellent area. Even if you just want to just walk, just walk Wicker Park -specifically Division Street and Milwaukee Avenue- is a great place to just walk the streets and window shop/bar hop.

I'm sure they could withhold the espresso from it, but yeah, that chili powder is subtle and lively, but a good kick. Not like in beer where you get sick of it after a few sips though.

Thanks so much everyone! These suggestions rule and are exactly what I was looking for!
Sorry to have derailed the thread temporarily haha!

Pub Royale on Division has fantastic Indian pub food...and they have one of the city's most under-rated and eclectic taplists. They are they only place that I consistently see Hammerheart on draft in the city. Even in a city as large as Chicago, it's completely unique.

Good call on Pub Royale. Great place in general. In the summer months, it's my go to Bar for food if I'm going to go out.

In the winter it's just a little too far to walk for me.

Don't apologize. I'm gonna speak for everyone and say we all happily want to let people know of cool places to eat and drink.

Also, Jive Gummy is legit. It's a tad too harsh on the back end, and if could be a little sweeter, Noon whistle has a home run.
