    Modern Time's Booming Rollers.

Pours a orange-yellow with a little bit of fog to it. Head is white and foams up to two fingers in height after a moderate pour. Lacing is tight and extensive. Aroma is citrus and tropical all the way with notes of orange, lemon, and papaya. Flavor profile is deliciously smooth with notes of orange, papaya, and an overall citrus taste. There are some hints of biscuit malts in the back. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a little graininess to it. It feels filling. Overall, a flavorful IPA that refrains from any bitter spells or tongue destruction.

We are so lucky to have so many good beer brewers around this area. This one is always a favorite, it's one of the reasons waiting in lines with shrinking limits not worth it. I bought this off the shelf and it was canned 10 days ago.

I agree about the licorice. I missed out on the bottles but had a couple of pours at the brewery this past week. It's really delicious!

The next beer that is new to me is another one I picked up this weekend. Green Man Rambler a dry hopped pale ale. clocking in at 5.5% ABV and 45 IBU's no bottling date I can see. I was pretty impressed with this beer, it has solid floral and citrus flavors and hell this head has been consistent for 10 minutes.

Appearance 4 - Pours clear orange color with thick foamy off white head, great lacing all around the glass.

Aroma 3.75 - Very light floral citrus smell. Pine, orange peel, grapefruit.

Taste 4 - Nice flavors, kind of has a green tea flavor, light floral, orange, grapefruit, slightly sweet caramel flavor and a touch of spice.

Feel 3.75- Medium bodied, not overly carbonated but just a touch higher a hint of dryness on the finish.

Overall 3.92 - A really nice pale ale, good flavors the head never goes away well balanced.

    Happy New American IPA Sunday!

Did a nice little hike today, around 56, cloudy, little breeze. Well, well, well as to today's new brew, which was received via thebeers (NBS BIF #5), (glad I have 3 cans left) thank you Arthur! I can see the hype whatever you want to call it with these, at least to me different looking, tasting, IPAs/DIPAs coming out of the east coast. This brew from Tired Hands is very very nice, citrusy, dank/diesel like shit going on, that is very tasty and addicting. Going to have to look into others from them, fuck!:grimacing: I'm glad I got into this NBS BIF.:grinning:

I'm not a great reviewer but here goes
It was kind of a lighter stout. Thin head and low carbonation. Very drinkable for an 11% abv. Full mouth feel as far as taste, a bit chewy, roasty, mocha cookie and a touch of vanilla. Semi smooth finish with a slight hit of chilis. It hid the alcohol really well
I had it at about 45 to 50 degrees at first and the more it warmed up the more distinguishing the flavors got. My last glass was room temp and that's when the hint of chili peppers came out.
Extemly easy to drink but drinking the typical Trillium bottle could make for a lazy day. Think Treehouse Thats What She Said viscosity

    Mosaic and Nelson!!!??? Jackpot!

A: Pours a near completely opaque straw yellow with a frothy white head that stays thinly afloat with moderate patchy lacing.

A: Smells of tropical fruits; mango, papaya, and that lovely white wine /"gooseberry" Nelson goodness. A little bit of earthy pine and a hint of new tire rubber on the finish.

T: Dominated by Nelson's white wine signature followed by a gentle pine goodness. The tropical fruits definitely find themselves in the background on this one, but are still present and wonderful.

F: Smooth and fairly dry. Prickly feel, and mildly bitter. Drinks more like a pale than an IPA, and refreshing and inviting enough to grab continuously for more.

O: This is an outstanding new school IPA, and thanks to its high drinkability, would love to find this more available for the warmer months coming up. Cheers and thanks again J!

That is AWESOME, Maria. I brewed beer once, from a Mr. Beer kit Little O got me for a birthday a few years back. I brewed an IPA, featuring the proprietary Mr. Beer MBE (Malt Beverage Extract). This was a goop-like substance (there is no better description for this concoction) that was roughly the consistency of tar.

It did not taste good. Actually, it did not taste - pretty much at all. It looked IPA-ish, it had the faintest of faint hop aroma, but it literally had no taste, other than a slight alcohol flavor. Mrs. O liked it, which was enough to convince me and Little O that our analysis that the beer sucked was indeed accurate.

That process convinced me, similar to doing home repairs, that my position in the supply chain is best suited to "consumer."

Johnny's American IPA from Moab Brewing for me on this new beer Sunday. Taste and look wise doesn't really seem like an IPA. I want to say it almost tastes like a reved up lager with some bitterness at the end. Not really getting much hoppyness either. Not a bad beer, just not as advertised in my opinion. Cheers!!![IMG]

Bravo! Look at the head on that! I laughed a few times reading your post, because I've done the same things. I love that you are making crackers with the grain. I might try making bread from mine next time. The last two brews I brewed I was so exhausted I just dumped the grains in the soil of my rose garden.
So what and when will you be brewing next?

New DIPAs Week. Carton wins the DIPA bake off, but new winners here from Stone, and a disappointing, dank-bomb-voodoo from New Belgium.

    07750 (Nelson) | Carton 4.47/5 rDev +1.6%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Proud to be among the first reviewers of Nelson 07750 (Monmouth Beach - my son's town). This one is at the top of the dubvariants. Carton tripling in size soon, well-deserved. Get to know this brewer. It's the water (and in my home town).
    Watch the brewer at http://tedxnavesink.com/project/augie-carton/

Every time I return home to 077xx, I'm surprised by how lucious and juicy their 077 IPAs are. Of course, I can enjoy them on tap and when I buy cans at the brewer they're stamped "Journey began 7 days ago".

Mineral notes due to the hard artesian well water they use. A must try and a great place to visit

    A) Light blonde body sports a pure white finger head, that laces dotty and rings the glass.
    S) Super fresh, juicy, citrus hops, tropical fruits, along with round fruits of apple and grape, then fruity malts, oranges, and pine.

    T) Taste follows the smell. Zests your palate with citrus hops, lemon, apple, white wine, fruit malts, and tropical fruits.
    F) Long, lean, peppery, zingy finish. Chewy, creamy, medium bodied DIPA w moderate carbonation. Light bitterness, long finish, and pretty easy to drink. Cleansing, great with food, long, and fresh.

    O) Try 24 if you can get it.
    Stone Pataskala Red X IPA4.24/5 rDev +3.7%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Arrogant Bastard is one of my favorite beers, Red Tail was my first craft, so this is a treat.
    A) The body is a dark coppery red mahogany, with a dense, one finger, off-white head that fades slowly and leaves thick lace sheets on the glass.

S: The aroma offers floral hops, citrus, stone fruits, mahogany fresh cut, and sweet, caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus, then transitions to cedar, wood, and a floral hop bitterness. The malt character is hearty and balances. It purrs into a a sweet, sticky finale.
M: Crisp, sticky, and smooth, medium body and carbonation.
    O: Arrogant Bastard Junior?
    Allagash Hoppy Table Beer
    4.17/5 rDev +1.7%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Close to 1000 beers, this one is a new favorite along Carton's latest. Allagash excels at simple and belgian.

A: Pours a hazy deep straw body with a one finger foamy white head that slowly reduces to a lunar patch of thick film covering the entire surface with a thick ring at the edges, cascades of lace.
S: Moderate aromas of spicy, earthy yeast over a lemony aroma of lemon rind, citrus hops, grounded in creamy pale malt body.
T: Upfront follows smell but more abundant. Begins with the funky, spicy, earthy yeast balanced with hop flavors of citrus, grapefruit pith, and lemon. All served on warm bread crust and white peppered at the final bite. Lovely see saw of flavor.
M: Light bodied, tingly, crisp with dry, scrubbing finish.
O: Gets my votes for an every day beer.

Hop Revolver IPA - Loral | Stone
    4.15/5 rDev +0.5%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

The reason we love this beer is it's novel. Glad to be 9th review (if I hurry!) This is flowers all the way. The most floral, perfumey hops I've ever encountered. It's big and small at the same time.

    a) Poured into Duvel tulip, clear golden orange with a finger of sticky white head that laces massively as it films the surface all the way down

    s) Smell is both fresh and fecund flowers, with some tangerine, pine boughs, and grapefruit rind. Medicine cabinet and cedar.

    t) Taste follows smell, with more, BIG... flower shop front and back, and the compost pile,, tangerine, lemon, pine, and grapefruit. The flowers run into pleasant drying pepper on the finale.

    f) Mouthfeel is a medium, 7.7% ABV hidden (seems a Stone trait - I think these beers are too strong and vote for 5.5%)

    o) Unlike any other IPA. Different , floral, original, and tasty. You must try it. Try 24.

Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA | New Belgium
    3.62/5 rDev -5%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

If I'm going to drink 9% DIPA, it needs to zoom ahead in terms of complexity, body, feel, originality. This doesnt. Their regular Voodoo is a great mid-pack west coast style. this 9% Imperial is overdone and too stinky.

    A) Beer pours a clear, bright copper amber body, with one fingers of puffy, rocky, white head, which sheets the snifter with lace as it slowly recedes.
    S) The dankness is paramount. Wet leaves, forest floor, and a medicinal funk. Other smells of resinous pine needles, chalky limestone, and leafy, weedy, and floral and dank green hops.
    T) The hop flavors overwhelm the base of sweet caramel malt, with almost too blaring fecund wet decay of pine and rotting citrus, and lots of complex dank, grassy, wet, pot-like hops, layered with mown grass. Abundant & Complex, but there's a sulfurous over-doneness that mars.
    F) The beer middleweight body, very tingly, peppery, and heft and it leaves that fecund finish which again mars it.
    O) Overdone hempy IPA. ABV not well hidden. Try 1.

Moving along here NBS with my second new beer of the day. This one is Patsy Rides Again, a milk stout brewed with toasted coconut, from Moustache brewing here on the island. It checks in at 7.3% abv and a 2/22/16.

A black pour with moderate carbonation and a fast white head. The nose is all malt. A nice rush of chocolate and malt upfront on the drinking. A clean and smooth flow that finishes sweet with the subtle kiss of the coconut. Additional flavor notes of lactose, coffee, vanilla, caramel, and sugar. The mouth feel is moderate with a slight stick and chewy. I'm impressed at the body of the milk stout. It really holds up the flavors and does not approach being watery.

Overall, not a game changer but a good solid drinker. The coconut is really on the subtle side but it's there. I'm in the mid 3's/4 here.

Next up Sunday Morning Stout. This was a request of a CA trade partner so I figured with all of the great beers he has access to if he wanted this one I should try it too.
I'm still working on my appreciation for the style and ability to pick out the different aromas/tastes and really enjoyed this one.
Pour is black with a tan head that dissipated before I could take a picture. Smells of coffee, chocolate, not getting much bourbon though. Have to remind myself to drink slowly and let it warm, as it does the bourbon becomes more evident, in both taste and aroma. Really enjoying this one, coffee, chocolate, and bourbon coming through, at 12+% this one could be sneaky. Overall 4.5.[IMG]

Good afternoon NBS, or what feels like afternoon but oh its almost six. Damn DST. Thanks Maria for the startup and presentation of her first homebrew. Very impressive. The beer looks and sounds excellent like you've done that before.. I would also like to say congrats to the Rhody Rams!
I received a very cool box from @Josholson666 this BIF #5 round. I got a growler of RIS Czar Stout- aged in Jack Daniels barrels from Town Hall Brewing . Had to open that Friday and finish it last night. What a brew lots of mellow bourbon notes, coffee, bakers chocolate, vanillin and a note of vegetal greenness and a very slight sweetness of what I thought was maple ( turned out no) and a nice subtle spice on the finish. Body was medium to slightly thick. A damn good brew that was a pleasure to drink and is gone but I wanted to post my thoughts and say thanks again Josh.[IMG]

    Next new beer is:
    Relic Brewing Dreamrise DIPA
Pours a orange/gold,fruit juice look with a cap that lasts a few minutes then leaves some clouds on top with some spotty lacing.
Huge aromas: Starts with grapefruit and pine, sweet tangerine, passionfruit, pineapple, guava and even some peach/apricot in the middle, and finishes with a green/grassy powdery note.
Taste follows with the citrus and pine and loads of tropical fruits with a tad of sweetness in the middle finishing with a pleasant slick bitterness.
Body is medium plus, lower side on the carb, with lingering hop oils on the tongue and lots of flavor that lasts. perfect bitterness to cap what little pale or pils malts provide the base.
Really enjoyable offering from a Connecticut rising star brewery. I'm anxious to try more offerings since I've passed them by for some reason. Beer is very reminiscent of WW FReak of Nature or Stoneface Hopulization. If you see it grab it. Everyone have a great week and I will see you next Sunday with a great selection from BIF box #5. And as always thanks for taking the time.[IMG]

    Happy New Beer Sunday!

Thank you for the lovely poetry, UtopiaJane, and the pictures of your new brew. Beautiful! I have a pumpkin stout carbonating right now. I know it's not really the season, but I wanted to try adding my own ingredients, and I have POUNDS of pumpkin puree waiting in my freezer to be used.

My offering today is Jack's Abby Smoke&Dagger Black Lager. Although not a new beer to me, it has been a couple of years since I've had it. My first time was at the brewery, and, looking back at my beer notes, I wasn't too keen on it. Now, I wonder why? Maybe I just needed time for my taste buds to mature.

Poured with a thin head that seemed to increase a bit as it warmed. It left some hefty coating around my pint glass, and the color reminded me of an abyss - a deep dark space black. The aroma was roasty, smokey, malty. The taste reflected this, but it was also slightly bitter, which hung around the mouth after swallowed. The carbonation I would describe as moderate, and I don't seem to remember much of Jack's Abby's brews being all that carbonated anyway, maybe because they are unfiltered. Overall, a good solid lager, as this is what they specialize in. With an ABV of 5.6, it's easy to enjoy more than one. When I hit the local Trader Joe's on Friday, I knew exactly what I wanted to drink this weekend, and I was not disappointed.
Cheers! Looking forward to reading more posts.
