Last new brew of the day, this one from da Bronx - for you geographers, the Bronx is the only one of NYC's 5 boroughs that isn't on an island :grimacing: - and they're making great beer, too!
Gun Hill Brewing's E Pluribus Lupulin 1: Silvis DIPA...
8.5% abv, featuring Chinook, Simcoe, Denali, and Equinox hops... Aromas decidedly pine-like and resinous, with citrus underpinnings... Flavors was appropriately forest pine-forward, little bit of chew, nice sticky resin sweetness, mellow citrus pith & peel rounding things off with a mellow lemony quality... Feel is smooth and medium-weight, nicely bittered - not a bitter hop bomb, but it had a bitter, dank, shellacky kind of way with the palate...

    I really dug it...

One more new beer, this one from Hardywood out of Richmond:

My review on this "retired beer" had me below the average by a bit. Hardywood lists Quadrahop that it debuted in 2015 as retired. I looked at the old version and this version, and they have very similar descriptions, and use the same hops. I put in a request to un-retire it, as getting more feedback in a single place I think is helpful. Had the two years had obvious differences, I'd have added a new entry.

It's hard to read, but the beer features locally malted barley to which is added Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, and Citra hops. I think the Nelson shows the most, with the Amarillo and maybe the Mosaic notes backing it up (given the notes on the bottle for each varietal). Having had more experience with Citra, I was a little surprised I didn't get the bitterness I am used to from this hop.

This comes across as a fruity IPA that is lacking a significant bittering side to satiate me. Notes of berry, white wine, and a little splash of citrus here and there. A little chalky feeling citrus rind enters on a warmer beer. It is a light beer for its 8.5%, and it almost comes across as a bitter wine than a bitter beer.

As I indicated, not a huge winner for me, but it does seem nicely made without anything offensive, but I like some more obvious bitterness in my IPAs, preferably in the end taste.

Edit: it looks like we might have had simmilar tasting beers, @Lingenbrau

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in a frozen Mid Hud Val, NY. I am well on my way to unfreezing with the help of a stout. Specifically, it is Tart Cherry WnB from Terrapin that was sent by the estimable @Buck89 in NBS 5 recently, almost as though he knew how well it would help me today. What a beer, thick and viscous and warming, lots of sweet cherry that is balanced and accompanied beautifully by roasty notes and coffee flavor. Simple and delicious, read the whole story here

Had to do some taste testing at Bellefonte for the BIF. First beer was O'Shea's Irish Red, a solid Irish Red, nice malt character, toasted malts, hints of chocolate and just enough floral/herbal hops.
Next up was Small Woander IPA, hop heavy, lots of citrus, hints of tropical fruits, some stone fruits, piney.
Beer number 3 was Fox Point Rye IPA, randeled with Amarillo and Citra, nose is huge but the taste is not as big, still a solid IPA.

[IMG] Poured into my 13 oz Weyerbacher tulip glass canned on 2/10/17. Pours a very hazy orange with a massive two inch sticky white head that leaves behind a thick wall of lace. 4.25[IMG] Smell is papaya, passion fruit, guava, pinapple, and grapefruit rind so juicy and lush it makes you want to go to a warm island.4.75

Taste follows huge papaya, guava, passion fruit, pinapple, and a nice balanced grapefruit finish. 4.75

Mouthfeel is a large medium, sticky icky icky from all the fresh hops, moderate carbonation, not dry at all, and at 9.1% ABV maybe the most drinkable DIPAS on this planet. 4.5

Overall this thing is aces, what an amazing DIPA. You wouldn't expectin it was 6% let alone 9.1%. Thx @Rcruz9230 for yet another world class beer.

    Greetings All:

I've been on NBS hiatus. We do an annual home improvement project after the Superbowl, so the last few weeks have had me on that. New floor and baseboards in 3 rooms. Looks pretty good if I do say so myself.

Today we have Red Guitar Red Ale from Twelve String Brewing.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/27007/272058/#navigation

A very good red ale. A lot of earthy flavors, caramel and peat.

Well, it looks like spring is finally arriving. Still some snow around, and the lawn is brown. First mowing might still be a month away. As for the winter of 2017 in the Pacific Northwest... GOOD RIDDANCE.

Hello to my fellow New Beer Sunday aficionados. It is good to be participating after an unexpected day at work today.

For the beer tonight I'm working on something I picked up last weekend at, what is becoming, one of my favorite brewpubs - Wild Mind Artisan Ales in Minneapolis. Damn good thing it is, almost, on the way to my mom's house, so it's easy to stop at.

It is a beer in the Farmhouse/Saison style. Very easy to drink, but packed with flavor. This will be my only entry in this week's NBS because I'm likely to destroy the growler tonight.

    See you all next week.

This beer pours a slightly murky golden color. It has a white, frothy, 3 finger, head that is fairly long lasting. There's nice carbonation bubbles rising in the glass as it sits. The nose is very floral smelling to me. There's a slight hint of citrus as well. The taste is very good. It has the floral aspect of it. A nice sweetness, but not overpowering. The feel is lighter, but not watery. Nice carbonation while drinking it. A very delicious beer.

I met up with an old friend from college today who also caught the craft beer bug (WAAAAAY worse than I ever did.) and we did a bottle share with our wives.

First up: Perennial Abraxas: This is the one my buddy came out for, it was one of his whales, my god, am I happy I got to try this. Thanks again @nvbrew. Just fudgey and delicious.

Next up: Hill's Farmstead Arthur: my first Hill's brew. For a farmhouse, this was astoundingly good and tangier than I expected. Nice and tart with a bit of a sour apple taste, and some nice carbonation.

Third: Four Hands Madagascar Milk Stout: Super creamy. Just astoundingly so. You could lie to me and say it was stout ice cream and I'd agree with you. I will take all of this.

and then: Barreled Souls Tequila Barrel Aged Deep Space: Ok, so I tried a TASTER of this before, but having been in the bottle for a month, this seems like it got more tequila-y. A lot of sweetness, but some creamy chocolate from the base too.

aaaaand, Hill's Farmstead Dorothy: This was a funky-ass pale ale, if I could get this consistently I would drink it constantly. Just the perfect amount of funk and hops.

and now, Night Shift Fluffy, my good buddy who was nice enough to bring his bottles of Arthur, Madagascar and Dorothy also brought me a 4-pack of Fluffy. This is SUPER fruity and creamy. Lots of mango and pineapple.

So. Needless to say, today was a GREAT day for beer.

750ml bottle poured into fluted snifter.

Ruby red, pink edges when held to light. Fairly opaque with whispy pink head that settles into small collar that rings the glass. A tiny floating island of froth and bubbly lacing clings to the side of the glass.

Aroma is fairly subdued, get a hint of tartness, jam, and sweet red wine grapes.

Flavor is not subdued. Layers of berry, red wine grapes both sweet and tannic. Tart berries, sweet jammy berries, modest earthy funk and hint mineral.

Dry, crisp, tart. A little bit of tongue coating, but overall a good mouth feel.

Excellent brew with tons of flavor. Layers of fruit. Tartness doesn't overpower any other aspect.

Sounds good to me! Look is much different, but that's all relative these days I guess. I'm with you though. As much as love these "juicy" and "fruity" IPA's, I still prefer me some punch in the face bitterness!

Hi all NBSers's out there. Looks like some of you are dealing with some tough weather. Here in central Cali its 78 degrees and super sunny, so I decided to pull out the BBQ and grill some steaks. The one thing I never do without a beer in my hand is BBQ.

From a can with a date of 2/23/17 on the bottom.

L: dark yellow almost orange with a good sized white head.
S: hops and more hops. Followed by some citrus.
T: hops up front with a smooth aftertaste, good solid flavor.
F: solid thick and dry DIPA feel.
O: really good DIPA. Right balance of everything.

P.S. I definitely send one of these bad boys to my NBS BIF #5 target.

Hello my NBS friends. My first offering for your perusal is the first new beer Surly has bottled that I'm aware of since their brewmaster Todd Haug (who for many beer nerds WAS Surly) departed for Three Floyds. This is Unbridled, a Brett-fermented IPA.

    4.26/5 rDev +11.5%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

I've been so disconnected with moving that I had no idea Surly was bottling a new beer, so when I popped into my local and they said, "We have something for you" and handed me this, I was shocked and thankful, because they only received 2 cases and saved me a 750 ML bottle.

It looks like a Surly IPA with the golden copper color, but there's a ton of carbonation as represented by the bumper crop of bubbles climbing the side of the glass.

The nose has spicy hop notes, but the Brett steals the show, as you would expect - lots of funk, which I love. The funk is also very forward on the taste, and there's peppery flavor coming through, too, which plays very well withe the spicy/citrusy hop flavors. Really tasty.

I was curious to see what the first "post Todd" new bottled beer from Surly would be, and how it would be executed, and I think they did a very nice job with this. I'd buy it again.

Rogue Marionberry Braggot, 11.42% ABV, 17 IBU. Based on the bottle and the name, I expected it to pour purple, but it is dark red/brown and cloudy, with a one finger tan head that left no lacing. Nose is berry and alcohol, taste is sweet honey, berry, alcohol, a bit of roast malt, and a slight bitter close. Perfect carbonation, so excellent mouthfeel. Overall very good. Checking off style #91 of 104 here.

Ok finally getting around to my first beer of the day and it's new to me. Actually the Weihenstephaner family is all new to me. So today's beer is a Heffeweissbier Dunkel, bottled on Nov 5 2016. So I'm most definately not a Hefe guy, I usually find the banana and clove thing a bit off putting.

The pour in interisting about 4 inches of dense firm into my Pils glass. 10 minutes after the pour I still have an inch and a half of dense foam. A beautiful hazy deep Amber pour, without backlight I can't see my fingers.

    Nose - dirty socks?

Like I'm said all previous Heffes were drain pours, this one is really understated and very pleasant. I can see a hint of banana, a touch of clove, spices. Thick creamy, and I can definately taste the difference between past beers and this one. Have to say I like it quite a bit. A nice 1/4 inch of dense foam remains till the end, nice lacing as well. This is a real head not a flimsy over bubbled beer that goes flat in 5 minutes.

Finishes up quite nice as well, I can see why it's a BA score of 94. If I rated it it probably doesn't reach quite that high, I'd knock it down a bit on the nose, about the only part of this beer I'd say was average. It's really a new style for me, so perhaps in the future this might be bumped up to account.

Overall, excellent, I honestly thought I'd pour it out, but I like it quite a bit, I'd buy it in the future if I could get it this fresh.
