I think once you make something a collaboration between two known breweries it gets carried away. The collaboration has 150+ comments on their Instagram for example compared to 40 for omna. I think if just omna was released yesterday it would have lasted longer even with a small yield but people getting the ipa got whatever they could of the other cans.

don't think there was a ton of omna.. heard a pallet of each kind, it would have sold out regardless of the collab.. maybe not by 2 pm but by 3-4 i'm sure it would be gone.. kane isn't some sort of secret anymore and people come every weekend.. other half having saturday releases every week doesn't help... you know the people in line at OH hawk FB and if they see a Kane release hop from OH down to Kane if it's something they want/know will sell or trade well (which is basically any release out of the ordinary)

Hopefully we see some kegs of port omna variants.. i know the base will make the rounds/already has started to but if the variants are all gone from the canning that is kind of a let down imo.. i figure Kane will have all the variants on next week for St. patricks day

I'm sure myself like others saw the announcement and got in the car.. by the time i parked and got in line it was 1:40 had i been a bit more on the ball I could have made it by 1:20 ish and might have gotten some variants.. it was obvious from the parking situation that more people were there for this weekend then either evening bell or christian patrick combined

I think it was just a low amount and decent allotments, also i don't think Kane wants a line lasting from 12-5 pm so they allocate it so it'll sell out somewhat quickly and it's hard to judge that 100%.. i think 2 4pks of the oman variants would have been sufficent but thats just me having not gotten any haha. evening bell was gone by 2:30... this was one of the quicker things to disappear from my rememberance.. hell i think DB Antead even made it till 1:40 ish.. or at least the leftover ANTEADS did.. this week was kind of a odd perfect storm of circumstances

I think my wife know that some people are going to sell/trade regardless. I mean, I do it, but I don't think I've ever taken a full allotment of anything. I think our main curiosity is if there are people who just go animal style, buy the full allotment and all they exclusively drink is Kane. I'm sure we saw a husband and wife walking out with the full times 2, with help from a Kane employee simply because they were carrying so much.

And this is in no way a complaint, just seems bizarre, especially to people like us that are constantly trying and drinking something different to see so many being carried out from on brewery.

While we're talking beer morals, I will just say that no matter what, someone will find a way to normalize it. I personally trade (have made genuine friends in Boston and the Midwest from it) but think selling is pushing it. I could easily see, however, someone make the argument that their locals don't make #whalezbait and they just want to try good beer, so they buy from grey market sites.

Does it really matter if you take a full allotment or not? To me if you are buying with the intention of "selling" to others (especially for a profit) and not drinking it yourself or trading for other beers you want to try, that's just wrong.

Couldn't agree with all of you anymore.

I actually walked out with a full allotment of each Omna variant and only a 4pack of the ipa. Living local is nice, so a group of us usually take turns hitting a release if we are free. I also have some friends who enjoy Kane, so i will send it out to them.

Trading at times I have learned is not worth the effort. Seems that everyone is all about "winning" at this point, when in the end to me it is just beer.

That being said, I tried each of the Omna's over the weekend. Really wish i kept more than 2 cans of each for myself. They really are delicious. The Irish Potato really started to change flavors as it warmed and the creamsicle was much more reserved in the orange from last year. The coconut was my favorite, but i am a coconut fan.

I will say, i am blown away when i see people drinking at a table and there are multiple cases of beer in front of anyone...who has that kind of space and drinking all of those isnt exactly good for the waistline.

This! That sentence really hits home. Trading used to be fun, I would trade with people who just wanted to try new and interesting beers. But it has become a game to a lot of people and you said it best - everyone is about "winning". I have a one or two people I swap with and have become great friends with but besides that I've pretty much stopped.

I thought the Irish Potato was incredible. The creamsicle was very good. I will try the coconut over the Blizzard. Kane really hit a homerun with this weekend's release.

I am very much the same way. At this point we know eachothers preferences and tastes, and just like trying new things. Nothing better then sending blind boxes to a friend and vice versca..

the ISO:FT on here gets too intense.

That's basically all I do. Much more relaxing that way. Nice to send and get surprise boxes.

I don't think I've ever gotten a full alottment of a can release from Kane before the collab this weekend, bottles I have. For Port Omna I got 1 of each and I wish I grabbed a second coconut bc I love it. But of that I am giving 1 of each Port Omna to my friend, another I'm giving a base to and then I'll drink the rest. If people want to trade I don't mind that but I hate to see people selling them at crazy prices!

I love this thread so much. I think we might be the most level headed brewery forum around. Love the discussion without anger like some other forums. And I couldnt agree more that it's about the hunt and winning now. In reality most of us, making an assumption here, just want a few to try because we love variety and don't want the same thing over and over. There are exceptions to this obviously too but as a whole we crave new stuff that's what keeps it fun. Cheers Kane folk.

If it was ANTEAD released this weekend the tone in this thread would probably be completely different

Any of the variants stand out for those of you that have tried them? Hoping they saved kegs and will spread them out over the next weeks in the taproom.

Haha. I do love this thread though. Some of the other brewery threads on here get crazy! But yeah I'm on the quest to try anything new I never had before and still drink the good old standbys I love. Thanks Kane for making that an extremely enjoyable experience for me!

i sometimes get full allotment - but im usually trading with my brother or sharing it with coworkers. i did see the guy with 5 cases and got a chuckle.

my favorite of the variants so far is def potato candy. regular port omna does just fine too.

You're not alone, and it's not just KANE either. I'm in VA and probably go to Aslin on my way home once or twice a month. It's pretty indulgent timewise, and the beers are ~$5 per 16oz, so when I go, I take the full allotment, and spread it out/swap locally for other ones I'd like from my 'off' weeks. It's $140 for 24x16oz of beer. I make a pretty good amount of money, but I don't desire to buy and /or drink $140 worth of beer a week, and I also don't only like IIPA/gose.

Back to what you're saying, every time I go to Aslin I see the same ~100 dudes and ~10 women in line. Buying the whole allotment, every time. Talking about how they were at Veil on tuesday and saturday, every time. Talking about definitely going to Ocelot or Hardywood every time something is coming up. Anything notable at DC brau or Lickinghole Creek is in the air.

I truly don't get (1)how people have both the disposable income, in conjunction with the time off/flex work time, to spend so much time and money on this "hobby" (2) How they possibly are drinking all of this beer. I'd suppose I'm slight minority on this site as probably most interested in whiskey, beer and wine tied in close second... but I'm 28 and can't imagine (assuming I bought 24x16 at Aslin every week) average drinking~4 cans of Aslin a day ($18) plus ever having whiskey or wine with dinner. I love an NE IPA as much as anyone, but they don't go with most food at all, just like most whiskey- it's too powerful, it needs to be it's own thing.

And if they're not drinking them and they're trading them... I've gone down that road too, that takes EVEN MORE time and money. I must be in the wrong profession.

Personally, I grabbed 1 4-pack of each, but my reason is quite different. As much as I love Kane's beer, if I had the full of Waimea and the full of everything else, it'd just sit there. Waimea would fade, and I'd be looking at all of these Port Omna's forever. I try way too many new, individual beers, because I love love love love taking pictures of all the different stuff I've tried.

So I DO get why someone would want the full of Waimea, but when I see people doubling up on all of them, it just boggles my mind. But I'm sure there are plenty of people who do drink all of those and just look at me like they don't understand why I have such a hard time finishing 4-packs.

And then Kane be releasing all these pretty cans, it's hard not to. And then the stuff in it is liquid gold.

Dying to try Port Omna Coconut tonight.
