I would quote @Sabtos, but it would take forever to edit the piece I'm commenting on.

Ccb skittles Berliner was not made with Arkane. It's a treatment of their base berliner. Has been done a few times before last years Huna fest. Not sure where you get your info.

And the comment about Florida beer and people's likes here is ridiculous, enjoy the rest of your winter and your Justin Bieber concert

Arkane's owner's wife stated Taste the Rainbow was with CCB...which obviously was a Skittles-inspired Berliner. Taste the Rainbow has been on BA a year longer than Skittles, which is what I understood to be the new stand in for Taste the Rainbow. I'd find it surprising for them to taste drastically different from each other. I've only had the first, so couldn't say for certain if the newer one was identical.

Appreciate the additional insight--but man that's a lot of activity! Also seems like a lot of coincidences...wondering if city council or town hall has anything to do with this.

I am one of the guys with MAZURT. We made sure everything we said we would have we had. We put all 5 announced beers on at the same time. It took two large jockey boxes and two staff members to pour from them. Plus we had a 6th beer that we poured in 2oz plastic cups and served on trays to the folks waiting in our line. We went thru 500 plastic cups in just under an hour.

MAZURT always works hard to move the line quickly and efficiently. We had a tree right in front of our table but we just dealt with that the best we could. Our goal this year was to NOT run out of beer. We are happy we still had beer as we did not want to “phone it in” like we felt some other breweries did. It is NOT COOL to kick an hour or two or even 3 hours into a 5 hour fest. We knew we would be slammed as it was our 4th Huna. We learn from you and strive every year to be better than the year before. I am so proud of how hard the MAZURT staff worked. We had a great time and I hope it showed.

From our point the CCB organizers were amazing. They gave us everything we needed to serve you guys and gals the best we could. We are already thinking about next year and what we can do to be better.

Mehhh. Bake wasn't all it was made to be. I thought it was good but wasn't incredible, more or less forgettable. Same goes for MBP.

I'd rather drink the mazurt stouts, arkane berliners, MIA Berliner was insane good and xquic. Haterade and scoop ala mode were awesome too.

You did a great job this year. I got in early and was shooting the shit wth you about getting your Atlanta funding ball rolling!

Thanks for representing Atlanta and also for not running out of beer..... veil ran out before 12 noon. Didn't even bring enough to last an hour. Pitiful.

I'm not sure what the argument you are trying to even make about Taste the Rainbow/Skittles.

For what it is worth...while the printed banner at the CCB Tent called it Skittles Berliner, the official Huna2017 App had the name as Taste the Rainbow. And as has been made evident, both the banners and the app were not alays correct. Probably because the banners had to be printer ahead of time (no defense for why the app couldn't have been updated for the "last second" changes to the line up). Not to mention the other errors in printing (misspelling, bad formating, incorrect names).

Arkane has, in its brief history, done both a Taste the Rainbow Gose and a Taste the Rainbow berliner. They also, as posted in another thread, have a history of brewing sours for/with other Tampa Bay breweries prior to opening their own location. It has now been confirmed that Cycle's original Ecto Cooliner was actually a "collab" between Eric at Cycle/Orange Belt (Cycle's sour program) and the guys at Arkane prior to them getting a brewery. Not to mention the dirty little secret that Rapp's famous Gose was a recipe perfected by one of the Arkane guys back when he was a brewer at Rapp (and now known as Arkane's Joza).

That's not surprising. That's shitty though to get invited and not bring enough beer to last.

What did it seem like I was trying to argue? @Lapalou tried to tell me Arkane did not work on a beer with CCB that Arkane told me they did, seemed pretty simple. Arkane also said they been doing this for 13 years so even though their taproom is very fresh and new, I'm not surprised then how deeply involved they are in the scene. Especially after tasting their brews, the experience shows. They were pouring lots of really good stuff, specifically the saisons, and it was my favorite non-festival stop of my trip, and I made a lot of stops.

That's interesting and funny about Rapp. They have so much going on over there I think they need to scale it back a bit honestly. Seemed a little scattershot and hairbrained for the size.

    The not beer people here...

Wanted to say thanks to those who took the time to vote for us. To be sure, it was quite a shock and I think we are still in a bit of disbelief.

We assumed that a Meadery couldn't win any awards due to the whole mead vs Beer thing. I understand the semantics of it. We were thrilled just to get invited to pour. We were taken aback when the CCB staff notified that we should be there when the awards were announced. We had no idea what was in store and part of me felt like we were getting trolled.

Upon arrival to the awards we saw many great Brewers that we consider dear friends. In all honesty, at that point we felt like best case scenario was we'd grab a third place in the Best Beer category.

Things went well beyond that obviously and we are absolutely elated. It was a great moment for us that we'll not soon forget. Moreover, it was a big moment for mead and the mead industry. As the guy who's risked his life's savings on the pursuit of making mead, it was pretty overwhelming. Those in attendance will confirm that some tears of joy were shed.

Beer is beer and mead is not. We're eternally grateful that the first people to seek us out for congratulations were some amazing Brewers.

Anyhow, cheers to you BA. We'll not let the door hit us one the way out. LOL...

This has been said before. CCB only paid for and told the Breweries to only bring 2 kegs. They could have been 1/6 or 1/2 barrels. Other breweries did take it on themselves to bring more at their own expense. I spoke to guys from Country Boy. Last year they only brought 2 as they were told .and ran out. This year they doubled up and lasted until about 3.

Not much some of these guys can do. They are damned if they do and damned if the dont.

Now I know who @Sabtos is. He was the guy with the white 3 ring binder recording every nuance of every beer he tasted. All the While critiquing the event. I am surprised he did not measure the piss in each port o potty and complain about that the PH was off.

Man get a life.... Oh wait you live in Cleveland. your screwed.

My understanding is that Doug took down the names of everyone waiting in line for BA Day tickets who didn't get them and offered them a bottle of the festival only beer to thank them for coming out and waiting in line and not getting tickets. That's why a second bottle wasn't offered for purchase to festival attendees. A pretty solid move by Cycle IMO, especially considering if you weren't there by 3:30 AM you were shut out for BA Day tickets.

Well, you sort of got the Cleveland part right although that game last night was certainly enjoyable for me. I was snowed in, working from home, uploading vaca pictures, and watching the Cavs. I really enjoyed writing out my opinion, which will also be beneficial to you indirectly, just like it was last year, even though your homerism fails to acknowledge that.

Thanks for your genuine concern though, you happy, joyous individual, cheers!

Exactly what happened as I know several people who were in line for BA Tickets and got shut out..Doug took their names and E-Mail Addresses and said he would "make good"...he did by contacting them and allowing them to buy a bottle of The F/O...while I would have loved to buy a second bottle at Festival I am happy that people who waited 4 hours + and got no tickets were allowed to buy the extras

Does CCB really tell brewers to ONLY bring 2 kegs? Guessing not.

It's downright silly (aka stupid business) for any brewery to only bring 2 1/6 kegs that were paid for when they have 3,500 beer geeks with expendable income and way too much social media prowess in the beer world. *Unless you aren't confident in what you produce, I suppose?

The slight (black market) benefit that a brewer like Wakefield (or any other) gets from hype from things selling out quickly is far inferior from additional exposure to hundreds of potential fans.

Now whether or not CCB should be held responsible (plenty of $ in this event and they've seen all the early sellouts for years) is another debate. Regardless, breweries know they can and should bring more. They can leave/wonder early and let volunteers pour for them.

I'm glad you acknowledge these things, congratulations nonetheless! I do enjoy myself some mead from, (I live very near to Crafted so have plenty of access and usually do flights when they release new groups of meads), but I can't stomach the mixture of it and beer, and prefer to treat it similar to wine and have it with a quiet meal.

The Breweries were NOT told to only bring two kegs. They were told that CCB would only pay for two kegs...anything more would be a donation. Considering how CCB paid for two nights at that wonderful Marriott for out of town breweries who needed lodging...all breweries should have donated beer. I know MAZURT did.

CCB actually requested that each brewery bring two 1/6 bbl kegs of two separate brands and paid for all 4 of those kegs. It appeared that many of the breweries that kicked earlier than 1 pm only brought half of what was requested. We had the same goal as Mazurt, to not run out of beer if at all possible, so we donated an additional four 1/6 bbl kegs. But that was not required or even requested, so there was no pressure on the breweries to donate additional kegs. We just decided that if we were going to travel that far, we wanted our beers to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

From our perspective, CCB ran one of the smoothest fests we have participated in and they went to great lengths to provide a great experience for everyone. There's really nothing CCB can do about the demand for specific beers, and not a lot the breweries can do either. It's just the nature of any festival that certain beers will be highly sought after and kick very quickly, while plenty of other great beers will be available for nearly the entire fest.
