Not to worry, some of us read and understood your OP and did not think you were either trolling or out of line.

Well, thank you. I admitted my "bias" and asked for opinions and received a bit of snark I don't think was deserved. I will be trying some canned beers soon.
I had no idea this was such a hot button in the beer snob community (okay ... my turn for snark)

    :-)

Here, as in many online discussion forums, it's probably best to just ignore the snark. There's actually less of it here than several places I've seen.

When you are ready, and with your breweries noted above.. here are a couple of my canned recommendations. As others have suggested, drinking from a glass may help with your aversion:

Actually, any beer will do.. I'm just throwing out 2 beers that I personally like. Good luck!

I prefer cans (uu) over bottles. Oskar Blues and Caldera were my first experience with craft in cans back in the day. That was about all the choices we had. I think I was more into bottles back then. With more IPAs to choose from today I think the cans are a better choice. I feel the IPAs hold up better in cans than bottles. But still fresher is better.

thanks ... I always drink from a glass, always (we are civilized after all )
heading out today to restock today and if I find a west coast beer in cans that sounds good, I'll give it a try

Yes, it's still being made. It only gets distributed to certain markets, like most of the Pabst-owned brands. I bought some not too long ago and thought it was an above average AAL.

Its kinda interesting; I could get Olympia and Old Style only out west (no Rainier though, didn't make it to AZ) and Stag in the Midwest. Schaefer, Ballentine, National Bohemian I have only seen in the East. Seems as though each region gets their own special retro brand. I have tried pretty much all of them except Stroh's and Rainier.

Hamm's is no longer Pabst-owned (notice it's not on that linked page).

Pabst did own Hamm's from 1982 (when they bought Olympia Brewing Co., which owned Hamm's at the time) until 1999, when they sold it to Miller after Stroh/Heileman went out of business and Miller and Pabst divided up those brands.

When the dust settled, strangely, Miller wound up with Pabst-owned Hamm's and Olde English 800 (the latter from Blitz-Weinhard, which Pabst bought in 1979). So, today Hamm's is a MillerCoors brand - and, as you noted, only distributed in the Midwest.

It is kinda weird, 'cause at one time Hamm's was a Top Ten brewer (peaking at #5 in 1956-57), with breweries on either coast (Baltimore and San Francisco) and in Texas. Of course, most of those Hamm's drinkers are probably dead.

Very interesting as always. Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps they are broadening the distribution of Hamm's a bit because I've been seeing it at few different places here in NJ

Not to worry OP, consiider that no bauxite and its resultant environmental damage was necessary to make the glass bottle you prefer, and there are just as many great beers in glass as there are in aluminum, so no missing out is happening when you choose glass.

We live in a nation that routinely ignores the consequences of lifestyle choices. It's okay, in fact it's better than okay, if you aren't one of those apathetic consumers..

Of course you miss something when you can only have bottled or Tap/ growler beers. Take away cans you have to be missing some great beers. But it is what it is. I have an aversion to asparagus so I don't bother or worry about it I eat broccoli.

    Don't assume that Dale's isn't an IPA.
