I always appreciate brewery taprooms with several serving size options but I was curious how often do you order half pints or flights?

I'm disappointed when taprooms don't offer flights or at least half pours. Sometimes I want to sample a bunch of beers but after 2 pints I'm usually done for the day. I'd almost be happy if breweries only offered 8oz or 10oz pours.

Half pints in ok with, I never do flights. I just feel like there's no way to really get everything out of a beer if your drinking what amounts a couple sips. Flights just seem like a waste to me.

If I go to a tap room new to me, I'll always get a flight if they have it. I can gauge after that If I want to drink a full pour.

half pours are nice especially if it's a new beer i've never tried before..rarely, if ever do flights, as i feel the sample size isn't big enough

If there's four or more new beers I always start with a flight, or obviously if it's a brewery I haven't been to. It's always great to sample, then get a full pour or two of the ones I really like. There was an article in one of the BA mags recently about someone who feels otherwise. Personally, if it's a new brewery and they have like 8 beers I want to try, how can I get a full pour or pint of each without walking out wasted? I feel every brewery should offer flights or tasters.

I love half pours. I went to Foam in Burlington VT over the weekend and was able to try their current lineup without getting too smashed. I think 8oz is generally enough to get a good assessment of a beer. I agree with others opinion on flights.

For me 8 oz is about the right sample size.

Flights are tough too because if the bartender is busy I won't order one because it's so much extra work for for the same volume of beer. That's why I think 8oz pours are so cool. I can enjoy it for a little while and it takes the same time to pour.

If I'm visiting a brewery or bar when I'm out of town and know I won't get a chance to try these beers again I'll typically do half pours with an occasional flight if there are just a lot of beers I'd like to try but I refrain from the latter if its pretty busy.

Only if I'm a tourist. Visited Cascade Barrel House and Hair of the Dog in Portland recently, and was grateful for small (~4oz) pours on the menu. With lots of pricey sour or high gravity beers I wanted to try, even 8-10oz of each would have been too much.

For any place I can easily return, I prefer to stick with a full glass and get to know the beers across multiple visits. Flights are time consuming for all involved.

If there's a line, and you're getting a flight... seriously... go f**k yourself.

I was at Cellarmaker in SF on Sunday and they poured into 8 oz Nonic glasses. Fun shape to hold and you get great aromatics that I feel get lost in a flight. The one downside is it can be less bang for the buck than a full pour or a flight, but I don't mind if there's good beer pouring and there are several things I want to try.

From the other side of the bench...I love flights and get them frequently when traveling and hitting up new breweries or brew pubs. A couple of sips and I know whether or not I want more...I also ask about size of pours, and I'll get 8oz over a pint or 12oz if available. Cheers!

Akin to the asshat who uses 13 adjectives and 4 verbs to order their whatthehellever from SBX when there's a line and all I bloody need is black effing coffee.

Love the one you're with, baby!

But I suppose I've also been willing to do a half liter once or twice, myself.

I will almost always order a half if it's available, but I find that rare in the Mid-Atlantic region. I wish more places offered it, but I also understand that that's a lot more glassware for them to tend to.

In the UK I always order a half pint.

I rarely order a flight for the same reasons that have already been suggested.
