I'd be willing to bet that pretty much nobody who goes to these releases actually shops at any of the local businesses in Ardmore. They line up for cans, then eat/drink in the Ferm or Brew Cafe. They do pretty much nothing to support the local businesses and are simply taking up tons of parking spaces filling the sidewalks with chairs. It's an untenable situation and even though I enjoy picking up these cans when possible I don't blame the other businesses/township for a second.

Hypotheticals aside, have you once stepped into one of these businesses?

I've purchased things from the bakery there across from the cricket parking lot numerous times, as well as eaten in the pizza place there in the ferm parking lot as well as a cafe down by the train station. I'm tired of the Ferm food to be honest.

The fact that they have meters yet enforce a 2hr parking limit is a fucking joke. Welcome to Ardmore...

I'll reiterate the chair thing is no bullshit. I was at the Cafe today for the Neoplolitan (which rocks by the way) and was upstairs talking to the bartender. Then a whole bunch of TH guys came up the steps to do a photo shoot of the milkshake for IG. Anyway, the chair thing came up and they confirmed that the Township has nixed the empty chair thing. They have no idea how or when the Towship will start enforcement, but it's coming. Believe me or not, it's no BS.

So, as I said awhile back, there was no way the Township was going to let things continue on as they are/were, now that's reality.

Edit: The bartender did me a solid and gave me the "milkshake model" gratis when they were done snapping pics. It was delicious. He rocked.

As someone who doesn't care for the chair thing, but learned to accept it (and even embrace it), I am thrilled to hear they will be enforcing it. Just wait in line like everyone else, or roll the dice on it making it to the bar.

My wife and I went to McCloskey's and a show at Ardmore Music Hall last Friday, and liked both places enough to go back again. May not have been inclined to do either had I not been aware of those businesses due to multiple trips to Tired Hands. I take my kids to Lulu's Casita on the weekends sometimes so I can double-dip and maybe go snag a bottle or growler or some bread.

I understand businesses not wanting lines of people standing in front of their stores. But it's a little silly to complain about having foot traffic in the main commercial area of Ardmore increased tenfold or more two days a week. Seems to me that the local businesses could capitalize on that opportunity if they wanted to.

I mean, there is a parking crunch right now because of all the work going on over at Suburban Square, but once the parking garage comes on line, parking should get a whole lot easier. In the meantime, you hurt ALL the businesses by being dicks about parking.

I don't think this is true. Parking limits are not typically put in place as a source of income, they're there for the benefit of the businesses. Parking is a limited resource, so it needs to be limited to ensure that cars are cycling in and out of Ardmore and parking spaces are becoming available, and at the same time the limits need to be flexible enough so that people actually have time to do what they want to do and spend their money. I'm sure this is where the 2 hours comes from, they figured that would be a reasonable balance between the two for weekday hours. They may have even hired some kind of engineer to determine the optimum time.

Its the township's job to create the best market conditions for all of the businesses, and if one tenet is intruding on another, even if its just a little bakery, its their job to fix things.

The way people rationalize and speculate that huge mobs of beer nerds are actually good for the other local businesses is really just seeing things the way you want them to be, not the way things actually are.

On like the simplest level, aren't you obstructing a public area by putting out the chair? Isn't it totally reasonable that a municipality would take action on that? I would bet is some way you could prove it violates some ordinance on the books.

I don't think anyone disagrees. The chairs are shitty, but we weren't all going to sit out in the cold if everyone else put down a chair and went inside. The argument here Is about the parking limit. I'm sure Tired Hands customers aren't the only ones who will be inconvenienced by a 2 hour total limit.

With that, I think many miss the whole general point of metered parking. It is to facilitate a steady flow of unique visitors throughout the day.

The point is that the parking limit is not new. Why can't you guys understand that the limit was in effect the entire time? You guys were literal parking scofflaws, and now that they are going to enforce the rule (again, NOT new) you are complaining about a what, $20 ticket when you go and spend a lot more than that on those fancy cans without thinking about it or even tasting it. If it's worth it that much to you then just pay the fine and park there for as long as you want. The parking is not the issue, the Tired Hands customers were. Problem solved. No drinking in line, no chairs, no parking scofflaws. Sounds good to me.

Aren't 2 hour limits the norm across most downtown areas in the greater SEPA area where meters are involved? I'm sure the people that live on the streets where there aren't meters but still have 2 hour limits don't want their streets taken by train commuters. I'm sure when the 2 hour rule was put into place no one dreamed that people would have to wait two to three times that to buy beer. Having releases only on Sundays would solve this but I am sure the township doesn't want to see the chairs or the lines on the weekends either.

This is what jumped out at me - the fact that the fine was only $20. Was surprised that's all it is.

This could be a temporary thing where they are forcing Tired Hands to improve the can release situation and in a few months after things calm down it will be back to where you can feed the meters again. Seems like the township is trying to send a strong message

Heck, I haven't have a sip of their beer since August 2016 and I've vowed not to again since my throat burned but I come here for the drama.

I have not had my throat burned by a Tired Hands beer for a number of months.

    Take that FWIW.

Maybe time to jump back into the pool?

    Cheers!

I think the only one that ever burned my throat slightly was that Mago Tago batch. And I didn't even mind it like everyone else seemed to.
