Looks like a good start. Thanks for getting it going today. Should be back later on with a couple of new brews from NBS BIF#5.

    Cheers!

Awesome opening! I'm more of a grammar cop than a poet, and it warms my heart to see the proper use of a reflexive pronoun in the opening paragraph!. I have a special beer in the fridge just for this occasion, but it will have to wait until after church and the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. See you soon, NBS!

New Amer. Stout Sunday (Week 633)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. A beautiful day that might trick one into thinking Spring has arrived and winter's last gasp has been gasped, but I am mindful that the last day of snow here was May 9, and there have only been two months of the year that haven't had frosts. I shall not be fooled and haven't turned the heat off for the season just yet.

Wonderful to be retired. The acoustic quartet got together last night, as we often do Saturdays, and for the first Saturday in years I was able to sit for some hours and practice on the same day as we play. Wonderful to be loose and ready like that. And now, on a day I also would be working, and unable to join the morning beer lovers for some early enjoyment, I can have a beer and relax. Big thanks to @Buck89 for another delicious beer from NBS BIF5 that I am really enjoying. Gonna post thoughts as I sip and put it into the database later. Morning All!

I love turtles, and as a Libertarian some would say I love anarchy, so this brewery has a name I like that is odd, interesting, alluring, and non sequiturial, somethings my ex wives might use to describe me haha. Portly Stout, by Turtle Anarchy

The light brown lather that sits thickly and majestically atop this black, thickish beauty of a stout only reluctantly relaxes to relative reduction that leaves slathers of lace lashed to glass.

A light/med. strength aroma that is full of toasty malt, light bitter herb, crisp grainy sweet, and hints of strong coffee and bitter chocolate. It may be light in strength but it is enticing.

Mmm a simple mix that presents the flavors of the bouquet in a clean way that is quite tasty. Less sweet for sure than anticipated, with the bitter herb and sharp roastiness rising at the end of sip to provide just the right amount of dry.

Med. viscosity, lively carbonation, light body, nice finish, and clean flavor presentation make for a mouthfeel that frames wonderfully the flavors, and provides excellent refreshment to the beer.

Simple and tasty describe this beer. If you see it don't hesitate to grab some. Will it blow your mind? No. But if you like simple, refreshing stouts, you will enjoy.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Aromas of chocolate roasted malt, sweet coffee, and spice. The body was too thin for this - I might have thought this an imperial porter - the feel was light and slim, moderately carbonated and a little tingly with spice. I want a bigger body-feel in an imperial stout, particularly one supporting so many flavoring features. That said, the advertised flavors of coffee, cacao, and vanilla were appreciable - coffee taking the fore, and the chili pepper, salt, and wood elements came across like spicy winter holiday spicing - seemed like the salinity was most apparent on the finish. I liked it well-enough, but feel like the "Mexican stout" is getting played out for me palate-wise, and this one would not be good enough to return to.

Sunny and in the 50's today - got a 3-year-old's birthday party in a couple of hours - totally dreading that  - but whatevs - gotta go or it's curtains for me :grimacing:

Had this one a couple weeks ago in the AM on this thread, and found it a little too sweet. Shared one of the remaining ones in the evening and enjoyed it a little bit more - as it didn't come across quite as sweet. Got one more to maybe adjust my review, because at this point and like you, I probably won't grab it again.

I must say I am a little happy when I see each week that a larger portion of our recycling container is holding cans. There are many reasons, but specifically on recycling day, they are so much easier to get to the corner .

    Hey what's going on?!

Glad to see NBS continuing and going on.. rocking!

I think we might have kicked the winter doldrums finally.. Sunny bright days and everything looking green for once. Very excited about the Spring possibly bounty but we shall see.

Speaking of bounty, I have a bountiful amount of new beers... let's get started shall we.

    What's new for our hero?

    -----------------------

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. Bit of a tug from the cork, and a minor pop while opening.

Deep mahogany brown body color, maybe a touch of a red in there too. Real nice forming one finger head, creamy light mocha with a thick rich collar as it settles. Good looking top and some transparency. Very dark looking strong ale.

Very complimentary nose. Complex fruit forward aroma on first whiff. Hints of barleywine style like esters, hints of marmalade, strawberry, tamarind as well strangely. Very exotic berry smelling primarily, with a mellow sweetness. Quite exceptional.

Palate takes thing a bit down. Very light body for a strong ale, almost pappery thin, wet, and kind of crackly mineral water like mouthfeel. Minor sensing milk chocolate with touches though of nice fruit character. Strawberry and a spice clove like quality in the mid palate. Faint touches of silky chocolate, but more mineral character seems to give a washing cheap black pepper cut through. Watery berry aftertaste.

There's some real decent and also very unique flavors, but a weak mouthfeel really takes the experience down quite a notch.

    Happy Sunday NBSers

It has been a real pleasure waking up this AM and reading through NBS.

Today was a big day for the Wife and I. It was our last long run of our marathon training. In two week we will be running (I'll be attempting to run) the 2017 Salt Lake City Marathon. My wife is a excellent runner and is within striking distance of her Boston qualifying time. Yours truly on the other hand is just looking to make it across the finish line in one piece! I have been dreaming of a Boston/New England Beercation should she qualify tho! The only hang up is that the SLC marathon is a FAT marathon :slight_frown: a lot of climbs and a sizable elevation gain. When I first started training back in January I swore off beer to some extent but that lasted all of three weeks! Recently tho it seems I have been drinking my fair share

Anyways on to NBS. The story above has purpose tho as today was the last long run and following a much needed and deserved hot shower I was inspired to crack open a newly aquired Foggier Window from Monkish Brewing. Get it?! Yea you get it! #lotsoffilter
    [IMG]

This beer pours a turbid and cloudy yellow with a hint of orange. It has a nice fluffy white head that dissipates rather quickly. The nose is of ripe mangos, peaches, pinnaple and light pine gum. Foggier Window has definite juiciness to it. Packed with ripe mangos, pinnaple juice, tangerine, grapefruit and even a bit of subtle melon. If you search hard you will also get a bit of that pine gum and pale malts but make no mistake about it, the juice is the star. Nice shot of pithy bitterness that plays well with the beers perceived juiciness. A well balanced juice bomb I suppose you could say? A silky, creamy mouthfeel that has a smooth and rounded feel going down. It finishes crisp and fairly dry. Overall I enjoyed this beer and would place it ahead of Lines and Really Real, the other two Monkish DIPAs I have had the pleasure of having.

Cheers BAs and Happy New Beer Sunday

Deep garnet red color that shimmers in the sunlight.

Nice aroma. The scent is of dark cherry resting on a bready malt base.

Taste of cherry that manages to be light, rich, sweet and tart at the same time. Very complex and layered yet possessing an elegant simplicity. There is depth in the flavor that's more than cherry, dark Mission figs perhaps, yet cherry dominates like the string section in a Mozart composition.

Texture enters light but finishes medium with just enough carbonation to balance.

This is a cherry flavored brew that is far more elegant than that sounds.

Pours orange gold. Thick, medium, off white head that lasts a while with light lacing.

Smells malt, yeast, hint of pine and fruit.

Tastes bready and pale malt to start, fading to a surprising amount of bitterness and light yeast. Finish is dry with a lingering bitter. Lighter body and smooth lower medium carbonation

I must say that intro makes me wish I could find a way to drive more Cleveland beer lovers here. This brewery has been open for three months and I have been the only one to add any beers to the site. Of course I shared my impressions of all of them. The latest, both added to the site and tasted this morning:

The brewery itself is located on a quiet block in the heart of downtown Cleveland just a short walk from Playhouse Square. Easy to stop by both Masthead and Hofbrauhaus before/after seeing a show. A large, open fairly industrial space that was proving fairly popular Friday evening. Wood fired pizzas as well as beer. I also appreciate that (for the most part, obviously this is an exception) they just name them by style.

As for the beer, IMO this is a very solid DIPA considering it's the brewery's first. As the name implies, they pack a bunch of hops in rather than focusing on the nuances of any one or two. That clearly resonates in the aroma and flavors which are bold, focusing on pine and citrus. Even subsequent pours from the crowler create a nice head and at 8.7% it's quite balanced though I'm starting to feel it as I sip my second glass.

CHEERS to all here who take the time to contribute to the site and write up notes about what's in your glass!

    Good Palm Sunday morning BA
I am happy to have this morning off before returning to work tonight.
A doppelweizen from Lagunitas? Why not?
22oz bottled 2/25/17 8.7%. Aroma is IPA-like with soft citrus predominant. Pours translucent copper with abundant off white head. Head retention is nice with an 1/8" lasting as the beer is consumed. Taste is soft citrus again with maybe the smallest amount of malt coming through. Mouthfeel is wheat beer soft with abundant carbonation and an underlying bitterness that stops short of being harsh, but is right at that limit. Overall, I am torn. As a "beer", this is well made and enjoyable, as a Bavarian-styled Ale, I can't find the smallest piece of Bavaria. If you are a Lagunitas fan, spend the four or five bucks and see for yourself. Cheers

    Transient Black Raspberry Maigre

I guess this is a Berliner Weissbier. It's very nice. Color is murky purple. Body is nice and light but a touch too fizzy. Taste is definitely black raspberry (without tasting like candy) and wheat. It is slightly musty and invitingly sour. Not sweet. Very drinkable. A well balanced and enjoyable brew.
