I will be flying through for a stopover on my way back from Dublin to Atlanta. I am trying to decide where to stay for my overnight stay. Between Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto; which has the best craft beer scene?

For a one nighter, I would go with Toronto first choice, Montreal second.

It's pretty close between TO and Montreal. More absolute opportunity in TO, but if you have just one night, how many places can you get too? Maybe pick your top 3 destinations you want to visit most in each city and see which appeals to you more. Montreal may not have quite as many breweries / brewpubs / beer bars, but if I want to spend a night drinking in a cool city, I'd pick Montreal.

Agree with Boney. Probably more in Toronto, but I'd prefer spending one night at a good spot in Montreal.

Agreed, totally agreed. I think Montreal is a great choice. For the most part a lot of what you are going to be looking to do is in the core, and could very well be walkable for you. There are not just some great beers available, but the restaurant scene is also amazing. Depending on when your trip there may be some other things to do...jazz, comedy, hockey.

Montreal is a world city...so is Toronto, but Montreal has kept its culture and history together much better (sorry TO folks) and that makes a huge difference in a short visit.

Montreal without a question for me, based on somewhat recent trips to both.

A stopover in Mississauga is a looooong ways away from Bellwoods

Yes, but in MISS it's so easy to taste every beer that Molson and Labatt's makes AND be in the comfortable surroundings of a restaurant that is identical to the chains near the Atlanta airport!!

Montreal for sure. I'd personally aim for a night at Dieu de Ciel and there's enough around there to keep you entertained.

Toronto doesn't have one culture.....it has EVERY SINGLE CULTURE.

The UP Train gets you from the airport to Dundas West in 18 minutes or Union Station in 25 minutes for $12.

For me Toronto > Montreal and it's not even close. That being said, if you are going beyond just the beer, Montreal is quite an amazing city.

Not saying Toronto doesn't have culture, just saying Montreal has done a better job of preserving its history. Toronto is a nice city, but think of someone visiting from the US...From that perspective Toronto isn't much different than most major US cities. Montreal definitely has a different feel.

Not trying to start a fight, just giving an opinion.

I agree that Montreal has a different feel. An almost European feel. I love going there.

Toronto has more similarity to American cities........but it is the most multicultural place on earth and there is no city quite like it.

As far as doing a quick stopover in either city I would first check if there are any interesting events going on i.e. Cask Days in Toronto. If there is nothing happening then I might lean towards doing Dieu du Ciel and Vices in Montreal.

The correct answer though is land in Montreal, rent a car, and drive to Hill Farmstead.

If nothing else, Vices et Versa in Montreal has bottles from places like Hill Farmstead, Jester King and (I think) Cantillon. You'll pay for the priviledge, up to like $40 a bottle, but it's cheaper and quicker than driving down to Vermont to pick some up on site.

I would totally say Montreal, cheaper stay, lots of microbreweries in town, very good stuff to drink and eat.
    Some nice microbrew examples:
    - Pub Pit Caribou
    - Dieu du Ciel
    - Vices & Versa
    - Saint-Bock
    - Brasserie Harricana
    - Isle de Garde
    - Brouhaha

And make sure to bring some beers to trade hehe!
