I mean agree with the bartender. Barleywine and IPA are different beers.

An old IPA, while sharing many characteristics with barleywines, isn't a very good beer, where as a good barelywine is delicious.

I wonder if they dry hop it after the barrel time?

The gin actually complemented the Permanent Funeral better than I expected. I got a lot of fruit notes similar to reg PF. The gin was subtle but complimentary. IMO, the IBUs and fruit were different from a Barleywine.

An old IPA at 10% with the hops faded out IS a barleywine. And yes, they can be very good beers. Kind of like 120 minute IPA fresh vs aged a few years.

Yes the Permanent Funeral base was alive and present. Still very IPA-ish. The gin barrel brought on some dryness, bitter pine, and a different element of sweetness. At no point during drinking it did the word Barleywine cross my mind

Does anyone know which barrel the current BA Behemoth being sold at the kiosk is?

Had a friend who dropped by yesterday and they told him there were six bottles of Willet left.

Is it really worth the $40 they charge? That shocked the hell out of me. Or the 30 for Rue? Neither seem rated well enough by the general community here (for me) to really warrant paying such a premium.

I personally think the $40 is way too much for BA behemoth. But it is in line with their pricing. I just choose not to get it. BA Moloko and alpha klaus were $50.

$30 for Rue is pushing my limits, but it's a fantastic beer, and on the upper end of other similar BA stouts. Eclipse, Bourbon County (when it was in bombers), BA Rasputin, and many others retail at, or around $30

I wouldn't spend the money on it, however with only 6 bottles left as reported above, they obviously have no problems selling these beers.

I don't recall BA Moloko and BA Alpha Klaus being $50. You sure about that?

BA Behemoth, though good, isn't worth $40 unless you are making it a comparable to a bottle of spirits which given how big and boozy tasting it is, could be argued.

Rue isn't worth $30. Porters shouldn't command that much.

Would you have preferred "I won't offer an opinion on it, but I am sorry I bought two of them"?

I have yet to pay $30 for a BA bomber, and that is always at a store not DIRECT at the brewer, which is always cheaper than retail. -Although the Rye Rasputin I did pay like $22 for a 350. Don't think I'll ever do that again.

If BA stouts routinely sell for $30, then I must not ever get a chance to buy the really great BA stouts. Which is sad that I haven't been able to, and also sad that they are so damn expensive.

Honestly, if it was regarded as well as even a 96, that would feel more OK. But, it's not. I know personal preferences differ, but I'm not willing to gamble at $30. They've also been at their kiosk for like a month. That should be enough to suggest it ain't that great.

Not bashing on anyone's preferences, It just feels really off to me.

i was at the brewpub on Sunday and curious to try their NE style offering VCR/GUN/PHD. It was pretty good and i'd order it again if i had the chance. was that the first time they offer an IPA labeled NE style?

i was also pleasantly surprised they still had Zombie Dust available to-go. i follow that kiosk tracker on twitter so I usually know more or less how often they have certain beers available. for the most part, it used to be ZD would be available during the week and sell out by Friday, definitely on Saturdays. do you guys think it's that FFF has really amped up it's production or people are finally starting to get "over" it?

i always have a great time while out there. i passed on the BA Behemoth and more Rue, but walked away with a couple of ZD sixers and Molten Mirrors to try it for myself.

The batch I bought went on sale on 4 April. I called and asked if they would likely have some left the next morning. They said it usually lasts for 2 days, so would probably be out by the 6th, but Tuesdays (the 4th) are slow.

My guess would be that due to KBS being released at the same time, people saved their money for other offerings. If I lived there I would have done the same thing.

BA Behemoth and Rue D Floyd are both worth the money.
