Good morning BA, have a great Friday! Good start to the holiday weekend. I have some driving to do later today after I get all packed up, going to my parents house for the weekend. Taking a review break for a few days and drinking some cellar beers instead.

Fantastic pale ale! Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with moderate malt sweetness of caramel, brown sugar, and toasted biscuit; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel/rind bitterness on the finish. Very smooth medium body; balanced hop stickiness and bready Munich malt creaminess in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, with no hop astringency. Absolutely love the balance and the juiciness of the Cascade/Centennial hops in combination with the bready malt bill. Deschutes rarely disappoints. Glad we get this in Oakland county this year, was unavailable unless I went to Wayne county last year. I might end up buying another pack of this.

Insane DIPA as always. Bright hop flavors of lemon, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with light honey, bready malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine resin/spicy bitterness. Balanced sticky/resinous hops and creamy/grainy malts in the mouthfeel. Increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Highly drinkable and pretty crisp finishing. One of my top favorite DIPAs when fresh, just wish fresh packs were easier to find more often. Seems to only be every 6 months or so around here. Very juicy/dank on hop characteristics and not overly resinous, just the right amount. Mosaic hops are the best, this might be the first one I had with them included. Will have to grab another pack soon, still less than 3 months into the best by date window.

Fantastic Quad! Glad these are in cans now, year round. Flavors of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, apricot, pear, apple, and toasted biscuit; with light molasses, clove, pepper, and yeasty earthiness. Light balancing spicy yeast against sweetness. Medium-full bodied creamy/bready and lightly slick mouthfeel. Very smooth, mildly warming 10%. Amazing balance between yeast and malt flavors. Going to buy this a lot more often now in the small format, same with Maharaja and Hog Heaven when it lands around here. Avery makes some of my favorite beers in many styles, but the large formats really limited me from having them on a regular basis. Not anymore.

Absolutely insane coffee stout, glad these are in cans now. Flavors of huge nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, dark bread, and smoke; with some herbal/woody/spicy hops and light charcoal/dark fruits. Bittersweet balanced roast/char/hop finish. Full bodied creamy/silky/velvety mouthfeel; light chalky roast and sticky hops. Lightly increasing roast/char dryness. Super smooth, minimal warming 12%. Insanely complex and well balanced. Will definitely be enjoying this more often with the smaller format. World class beer. Looking forward to the day when everything is in cans, seems to be heading that way now. Increases every year.

Good morning BAs! Well, Mrs. Lizard is back home and I can now continue with New Breakfast Beer. Today's entry is this delicious APA sent by @Dragginballs76 in retaliation for NBS BIF #5 - thanks Michael! This is one I've been wanting to try and it's better than I hoped!

    Breakfast grapefruit . . .

Aroma of ripe ruby grapefruit. Not astringent garden variety red grapefruit, rather the richly aromatic ruby red variety grown in Texas. I know the scent having bought them from a stand on the edge of the field where they were grown. Following this is the sharp, bitter tang of ginger.

Flavor is sweet grapefruit and sharp ginger atop a base beer substantial enough to support those strong flavors an not get lost in the process. Little or none of malt and hops which would normally be a turnoff for me. Indeed, I've ignored this brew because I was thinking, ho-hum, another shandy. It's more than that because here the grapefruit flavor is rich without being sweet, the ginger strong without being bitter, the supporting beer being solid without being intrusive. It's not a complex brew but certainly a tasty one.

A beer down in the cave to escape a couple of crazed mutts barking at some ducks in the yard. I hang this sign on my back bar every Easter season and fondly remember the days when this was widely practiced. The memories of the mill rats on the south side of Chicago pacing and waiting for the bars to open after their shift was priceless.

Wow, busy start to the morning!

I didn't get a chance to finish last night's (second) Narwhal, but I'm not one to let a good thing go to waste. Turns out it makes a pretty fine substitute in a coffee cup.

Weather is a little gloomy to start off this holiday weekend in NY, but 80 degrees on Sunday means a quick visit of summer to the city. Very excited for that, so I'm getting into the mood early for that weather:
