Burial did fill growlers early on and still will fill them if you are lucky enough to own one of theirs. They have said they will never bring growlers back though.

Thanks. That's a shame, when I spoke to them last year about it they said it was due to capacity that they didn't.

Maybe will come about when they open up the second production ( and larger ) brewery/restaurant.

One thing to keep in mind about Burial now, it seems, is that at some point you'll be called a hipster for liking them too much, or enjoying yourself.

Asheville... please don't eat yourself. You guys are better than this. The dreadnecks and trustifarians were never as bad as you "cool" people who hate other people who you thing are being "cool".

PS. Stay Gold was really really good. And so is Burial's mural. I'm old enough to like it non-ironically. GASP!

If it walks like a hipster, and it talks like a hipster...

Honestly, I've got a buddy who was having his photo taken in front of the now famous mural at Burial when some folks walked by and literally, audibly, referred to him and his wife as hipsters. He got a bit more butt hurt over it than I think was honestly warranted, IMO. But he's a really sensitive guy. Still, I see where you're coming from, @JdoubleA.

Most of the people walking around the south slope don't even live in Asheville. The crowds that have been rolling through Burial and the other breweries down there are out-of-towners. If someone is being called a hipster there it is most likely not from the locals as the Asheville hipsters are much too hip to hang out at Burial or cruise the south slope.

Um, was @JdoubleA that friend?

Not going to disagree with you that 'most' are out-of-towners, especially on the weekends. But I also pretty much always run into someone I know from town (and I don't know a ton of people in-town) so there are plenty of locals around as well.

I'm visiting Asheville as a native Vermonter this week, and you have the same hipster, college kid demographic as Burlington has! Done all my research, have VT homebrew friends who spend every May here. They gave me a ton of contacts, but one thing eludes me - Any unique special events here this week I should know about? Traveling solo, and enjoy the flex to do whatever I want beerwise. Equally important: what to avoid so I don't waste any of my precious 6 days here!

Pretty much all of the breweries will post their events on their Facebook pages, so run through them to check out what's going on. The Asheville Ale Trail website keeps a decently updated list of stuff going on, but it doesn't always cover everything. Also, April is NC Beer Month, and you can check out some events and giveaways on the website.

Not even close. Burlington is filled with college kids, and in Asheville is not. Asheville has a plethora of post-college upper 20 year olds thought. Almost like an older version of Burlington.

Where to begin.. Twin Leaf brewing, Bharamari, One World, Lexington Ave (unless you want some food).. Let me think some more on it....

Median age in VT is 47, and we're losing, not gaining population. Too many old hippies, not enough young hipsters, apparently!

So I just returned from an Asheville beercation, and am wondering if all the people who were on the South Slope were out of towners like myself...where are the Asheville dwellers drinking?

The local brewery in town is the Wedge and the OG greenman. NOT the greenmansion..

As a local, I typically go to Burial or Funkatorium as those are the breweries I like best in town. I will also hit up the smaller breweries on the outskirts as I try to avoid the south slope on weekends because of the mass of people roaming. With that being said, most Asheville locals don't care about the beer scene and diversity of beer that is sweeping the town and country. When Thirsty Monk first opened (as a Belgian bar) locals were not very happy. They wanted to drink Asheville beers, which is the reason for the bar upstairs being regional beers. Cold Mountain is the most popular beer in Asheville if that gives you some perspective. Asheville locals are starting to come around to the idea that places outside of Asheville and NC can make good beer too. During the summer time Highland is filled with locals as are places like Bywater and sometimes Salvage Station. The Wedge does get a crowd of locals as does Dirty Jacks.

Sorry.. I meant the local local. The people who works at those breweries and work in the service industry that basically is AVL.. those are the folks that go to the wedge. Quantity over quality.
