Just got back from RR last week where I was introduced to sours... yum! Did the full tasting 21 beers on tap of which 4 were sours. Temp, Cons, Supp and Sanct, all very good

I've got a couple bottles of Consecration for trade and was hoping to get a couple of sours in return. Will post in ISO:FT after I learn a little more about sours.

What are some comparable sours out there? What are some sours to get started with, i.e. not too funky.

    Thanks for any insight!

If you are out in Cali, I'd suggest looking at some of the offerings from The Bruery.

And I'll suggest my hometown favorite, Jolly Pumpkin, which I think is available out there too.

I enjoyed the Consecration and Supplication the most for sure.

I've seen a couple of Bruery offerings recently, I think the 2 saisons that are out right now, will also keep an eye out for Jolly Pumpkin stuff.

I like my Flanders-style sours. Rodenbach Grand Cru for the classic. Jolly Pumpkin La Roja is tasty as well.

Try some Cascade (Brewing) sours. They are fairly easy to trade for (well if you can find* a NW BA) and they have a wide varity of sours to choose from.

I just had my first sours last weekend, Epic Elder Brett, Anchorage Love Buzz and New Belgium La Folie. I loved them all. Really super complexity that I didn't imagine they would have. Even had an 1809 Berliner Weisse which was awesome.

The sensation caused by La Folie was so weird. I wouldn't say it was more sour than an atomic warhead or sour patch kid, or really even a fresh lemon, but when I drank it it was as if my tongue was a wet sponge and got wrung out once the flavors hit it. Weird!

Well... I have drank a ton of Rodenbach Grand Cru, so it wasn't really my first rodeo.

Just paid $9 for a 375ml cantillon gueze. lolita is around $17-$20 for a 22oz bomber. The price can get up there but it's the fact that there's really no cheap sours. Even Lindemans (which I just recently found is a fake lambic) is $4-$5 for a 375ml

Big fan of the cuvée Rene, it's also easy to find, at least here in NE.
