I got to have last year's Commodore when I was out visiting my brother last summer. I thought it was pretty good. Good enough to bring another bottle back to share with friends. It was well received by all. Might have to try and get another this year.

Speaking of, he brought me a few bottles of CO stouts when we got together last week. Particularly excited about the Fiction BA Malice & Darkness. I already drank the BA Genius Wizard. I thought this stout was really good - lots of chocolate and vanilla, not too boozy... except that it was totally flat. And I'm very familiar with BA stouts having low carb. This was completely absent of any though. Literally poured flat. Anyone else experience this before? It did fly on a plane to get to me. However, I've had many beers that hopped a plane to make it down my gullet. That's never seemed to be a factor before...

If the BA Malice has held up, it was one of the more impressive BA stouts I've had in a while. The viscosity was amazing, it absorbs any light unfortunate enough to come near it and has a gravitational pull. The bourbon for me was spot on. But it has been sitting in bottles for 6 months already.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. So he grabbed this at their most recent release of it a few weeks ago. Were they just holding onto bottles from 6 mos ago and doing controlled releases or something? I never looked at a bottling date. Will have to check that out tonight.

I would say it's a pretty bad sign if a BA Imperial Stout can't hold up for 6 months in a bottle, especially one that sounds like it started out so good.

    Yeah, same batch.
And I agree with the other poster, if a BA stout can't hang for 6 months then that's not a great sign. But I've seen it. Oddly the 2 beers I'm thinking of offhand were both aged in Laws barrels: Trve Whiskey Funeral and Launch Pad BA Soyuz. Neither beer went bad, but in both cases the barrel essentially dropped off within 3 months.

Maybe call B&B to see if they have it available there. I think they had bottles for sale last time I was in there a little less than a month ago...

Finally grabbed a bottle of The Commodore. Really enjoyed it. I don't know if it's my favorite BA stout (definitely enjoyed the slightly more muted barrel), but the price kind of makes me want to grab another...

Anyone try the Brandy BA Meristem from Fermaentra yet? Wondering if it's worth going to grab a bottle.

Can't speak for this one, but a while ago we had their bourbon BA Meristem and it was pretty awful. It tasted like the bottom of an ash tray. But that was probably a year and a half ago now, so maybe it's better. I haven't had any inclination to go back since we didn't like any of the beers they had that night, including their BBA porter (forgot name).

I've had some truly great IPAs and pale ales at Fermaentra, but every BA beer I've tried there has been awful.

Good to know. I won't make a special trip down for it. I will however when Here Be Monsters comes out at Cerebral. Says on their website it's coming soon.

The base beer is solid. If it's like their other BA offerings, I'm all in

Bad news, I don't get out of work until 3:30, so I might miss the vanilla bottles. But good news, I work 3 blocks away. Looking forward to this one.

Terrible news! Was anxiously awaiting this release but I'll be at DLD that weekend. Was actually hoping to bring some bottles of this with me to share with some people that would never get to try it otherwise but I guess that won't happen. Gonna have to get a hold of my "mules" to score some bottles for me unfortunately.
