Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a huge head. Settles down to only 1 finger after a while. Great lace.

Nose is heavy pine and dank/grassy with some light mango fruit like notes. A bit of orange peel and chalky yeast in there too.

Flavor is surprisingly chewy and a bit malty with some passion fruit and slight rye-like spice. Dank and grapefruit-like bitter citrus flavor. Surprisingly flavorful and kinda heavy bodied (meant in a good way) for a 4.5% beer. Not my fav Old Planters beer... Crop Rotation takes that cake. However, I'm really glad to have the opportunity to have it. These guys are really solid in general and I'm looking forward to them making more new beers soon.

Back and forth we go. Where I'll stop, nobody kno.... well, that's probably not true. I'll stop when my wife tells me to. But anyhoo, it's time for my third NBS of the day, and third new brewery to me of the day as well! Yet another from the ever so generous BA, @WesMantooth . One I've decided to share with Frau Brau, as it seems this would be one we'd both enjoy. Thanks again Corey!

A: Two different beasts off the bat. Her pour (the initial pour is a semi clear deep yellow with a foamy white head that recedes and leaves minimal trace. My pour contained the yeasties and is an opaque and muddled white washed light yellow with moderate white foam that persists.

A: Smells nice and tart, farmhouse funk (sweat, grass, hay), and lemon. Hard to detect much sweetness through the acidic barrier.

T: Lemon dominates as if almost freshly squeezed. I'll use an insert from one of @utopiajane 's previous reviews: "It tastes like Sunshine!". And it does. Lemon tart with a touch of wonderful funk and acidity, and a kiss of honey for some sweetness.

F: Light and spritzy, well carbonated, crisp and mildly tart. Simply sublime on this warm and sunny day.

O: This is a wonderful Saison, and I always find myself enjoying this style with added acidity. Overall, I would drink this all day everyday, especially during the hot summer months coming up.

Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon!

EDIT: After official review, I rated this a 4.4. rDev +2.1%

A special thanks to @nvbrew for sending this out my way. It's funny, my initial entry point to saisons was with Goose Island's Matilda, with that in mind I was always slightly put off by the sourness that other saisons had, wanting more of the funk instead, but this one has a really nice balance.

On the first sip there's a bit of Granny Smith apple sourness, and definitely apricot, but on the back end there's a bit of barnyard funk and grass that quickly wraps up with a nice dry finish.

    Really delicious Saison.

Pours black with a fluffy pillowey mocha colored head.
The aroma is intense coconut, a little coffee and a sweet rich dark chocolate. I could dig my nose in this all day, incredible nose.
The flavor is quite a bit more nuanced, there is a great brown sugar and molasses flavor. It's got a great dark rich malty and chocolatey sweetness giving way to a blast of coconut. The coffee blends well and stays blended in the flavor.
It's an outstanding beer, I'll be seeking it out again for sure.
    I ended up rating it a 4.72.

Some day I will make the long drive to this brewery.
I'm told it is a 12 hour drive northeast from Montreal!:grimacing:
This is the 2nd beer I've tried from these guys, the first being their Grisette #2, which was very nice. So, some of you know that I work at the store next to The Alchemist in Stowe and run our FB page. I get to interact with many people on our FB page first before actually meeting them. This beer is a result of just such an encounter. A very nice lady from Quebec asked me to hold some items and surprised me with this beauty yesterday! Thank you Carine!

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a hazy golden straw body with very nice sticky lacing. Beautiful! Nose of pine, citrus, and tropical fruit. Flavors mirror aromas with a nice feel and semi-dry, crisp finish with an easy, forgiving bitterness that really appeals to me. Thanks to a lovely Quebecois couple who gifted this to me yesterday.
    Salut!

My wife and I just got finished with three hours of yardwork. Together that meant trimming the bushes in the front yard. No mowing, weeding, or getting near the backyard. We have lots of work ahead of us the next few weekends.

As @cjgiant mentioned, we had a fantastic meeting in person a few weeks back where he gave me several outstanding beers, most of them from Aslin. I feel fortunate to have met him and the GF in person and fortunate to get to try these beers.

The first NBS beer today is one I was saving to share with a buddy who loves sours, but our family schedules haven't meshed, so I'm going at it alone. This is a really good beer that is going down very fast and easy. (BTW, I've seen this glass at least six times on the WBAYDN thread today, so figured I'd join in.)

Poured from a 1 pint can dated 3/21/17 from the generous cjgiant. The beer pours a very light yellow color similar to light grapefruit juice. There is a tall, foamy white head the left spotty, sticky lacing.

The smell is strong orange, grapefruit, and a definite sour note.

The taste is like grapefruit juice with lots of lacto coming through on the end. This is so much like grapefruit juice I feel like mixing in vodka. There is a strange grassy bitterness that lingers and detracts slighty from an otherwise very enjoyable taste.

The mouthfeel is thin and highly carbonated, almost effervescent.

Overall a really nice, easy to drink, enjoyable beer. I'd buy this again to drink by the pool.

Happy Sunday, BAs. I'm several deep at Churchkey in DC, and thought I better say hello before I have too many more.

Just enjoyed my first Focal Banger, a Morph variant and a nice wine-barrel aged Flanders Red from Westbrook called Mr Chipper. This one is an English Strong Ale aged for a year in "Wyoming whiskey barrels."

It poured a clear, red-tinted, light brown color. Had a finger of tan-tinted white head that was quick to dissipate into a lasting thin crown with no lacing.

Toffee malts and creamy whiskey aroma, with slight vanilla and cherry notes, dominate the nose. There's a hint of fig and prune as well.

The barrel is up front in the taste, again with some clear vanilla. Toffee, prime, raisin, fig figure into the malts. There's some slight hop bitterness to keep it from being too sweet, and some alcohol burn in the finish.

It's medium bodied with a somewhat creamy, somewhat sticky feel cut by solid carbonation.

My first one from Black Tooth and it's delicious overall.

Not sure if I'll be back tonight. If not, have a great week, y'all.

It was a hoppy sour for sure, with lots of both aspects versus a subdued blend of them. I enjoyed it as is, but I think I would've liked it a little more with one or the other a little more tame

Do you think your friend would've enjoyed it?

:grimacing:... had I known they had Focal Banger, we might've found a way to make it to Church Key today. Also, maybe we could've enjoyed a beer together. Just a little sad going into my next beer...

I do think he would have enjoyed it. He loves hoppy beers also, and has enjoyed most of the beers we've shared.
The more I drink of this, the more I'm amazed this isn't a sour with added grapefruit. It's really good.

Back for a 2nd new beer with this massive (14% ABV) Strong Ale from Southern Tier. I do enjoy a Manhattan from time to time, so why not? Splitting this one with my son.

Beautiful beer in appearance: moderately hazy, copper-orange color. The label is also awesome in my opinion. A modest tan head settled into a wispy cap. Maraschino cherries on the nose, with caramel malt, vanilla, and bourbon. Traces of orange. Bright and even mildly tart cherries on the first sip, followed with sweet caramel malt, bitters, orange, and whiskey. A bit too sweet for me. A nice warming on the finish but not overly boozy considering the huge ABV. All in all, a nice sipper with qualities close to Frootwood but more complex and less cloying.

My next NBS beer came from @biglobo8971 during the Can Can BIF. I was trying to decide which beer to have first and he suggested if I like coffee to try this one. Bent Paddle Barrel Aged Double Shot Double Black made with a double shot of both cold pressed coffee and whole vanilla beans and aged for 15 months in bourbon barrels. Clocking in at 11.2% alcohol If you think it sounds good you should taste it, the flavors are spot on and it has a wonderful feel. The perfect beer for a cold rainy day, thank you sir for this amazing beer.

Appearance 4.25 - Pours black with a dense tan head that lasts for quite some time. Very spotty lacing.

Aroma 4.5 - Wow if this thing tastes as good as it smells I am in for a treat. Lots of coffee, bourbon and vanilla for the most part. Sweet smell like milk chocolate or fudge along with molasses and oak. There also seems to be some caramel or toffee in there as well.

Taste 5 - The taste mimics the aromas, they hit the flavor almost perfect. Lots of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon. The thing I like most is usually in order to get this much bourbon flavor it overpowers, not in this case it plays well with all of the other flavors. The co stars in this great beer seem to be oak and a hint of caramel.

Feel 4.75 - Full bodied very creamy and smooth. Get a warming effect from the bourbon great feel.

Overall 4.71 - This is an all around well done beer, a perfect cold weather sipper with wonderful flavors.

    New Song-Referencing Beer Sunday

Tell Shaky and Boxcar Joe DDH IIPA from SingleCut, canned 4/11/17, featuring unspecified Pacific Northwest hops...

The name references the Willie Dixon song, "Wang Dang Doodle," first recorded by Howlin' Wolf, popularized by Koko Taylor, and covered by others, including the Pointer Sisters, Savoy Brown, and (live) the Grateful Dead...

Kinda medium-gold-colored body, faintly hazed, coupla fingers of white head that left some lace trails behind. Aromas citric and fruity, floral and herbal... The taste had plenty of grapefruit and orange, maybe a squeeze of lime; big bitterness alleviated with a bit of dankness as it gripped the tongue... Medium-light-weight, moderate carbonation, dry tickle of powdered candy... Very nice, and definitely on par with the rest of their product line.

Doubt I'll have anything else new today, NBS - hope yer beers are good to ya!

    Cheers...

Greetings, NBSers. I have a triumvirate of beers for you on this gorgeous North Texas evening. First up, a style that leaves me talking to myself.

This beer is, IMHO, the definition of the slight issue I have with session IPA's in general. The pour reveals a beautiful golden-hued beer, slightly hazy, with an off-white head.

The aromas are dank citrus - grapefruit, tangerine, maybe some pineapple. The taste is heavy on the tangerine and grapefruit (as heavy as a session can be), but there's little discernible malt, which is where my issue lies - an IPA, even a session, without a malt base, is lacking, IMHO.

Is this terrible? No, not at all, but it could be so much more with a detectable malt bill.

Which would take it out of "session" range and land it in APA/IPA land, which is where my issue lies.

    I'm flummoxed.

Hi there all you Sunday New Beer drinkers.

No pics today because my computer is having issues, but I am still drinking new beers and grilling some steaks.

I was up bright an early waiting in line for cans of moonraker today. While waiting I was showing a couple guys pics of the awesome the box I got in the can can BIF from @crow121 and they recommended I drink one of the beers ASAP

    The beer is:

AMUN from Veil, a collar with omnipollo

L: super hazy with a bunch of white head that lasted awhile
S: hops citrus lemon and a hint of grass. Not very strong
T: hops, lemon, grapefruit and some malt on the finish.
F: excellent feel here. Super smooth, almost creamy, most likely the oat milk. Also very thick for a DIPA, which I love.
O: the look and smell are fine. The taste is very good and the feel is excellent. Would definitely like another.
