Thanks. I appreciate that a lot. I cut way back on beer Feb & March this year and that's why I made far fewer posts with pictures in NBS.

    OK, NBS Take 3

My last new NE-style DIPA from Moonraker from their 1st Anniversary festivities. I really think I reached 'critical mass' with three of the NE-style in a single day. For my palate and preferences, 1-2 is usually the max before I seek out something with punching bitterness (whether that be hop-based or coffee-based). What can I say, as Stone marketed, "I'm Bitter and I Like It".

Back to the beer. It's another damn fine offering from Moonraker. YOJO 66 1/6 is based on the third iteration of the You Only Juice Once IPA recipe, YOJO 33 1/3, but is a double version of the recipe. To be honest, I find that most of Moonraker's DIPA recipes have a much better mouthfeel to the NE-style as the added malt cuts down on the astringency. Complete review link.

Pours hazy copper with white head that had good retention and left nice lacing. 4.25

Nose is very tropical and enjoyable, but a bit mute. 4.25

Taste parallels the nose, though also could be more dynamic. Finishes clean, juice-like with little lingering on the palate. 4.5

Mouthfeel is lighter bodied and slick, some tongue tingling from carbonation and perhaps astringency. 4

This is a damn solid NE-style DIPA. Lots of things to like in this beer, but the lack of dynamic presentation limits it from being a "WOW" beer for my palate.

    Rating = 4.28, rDev = +0.5%

    Good evening NBS!

I have to say that this thread has become something I so look forward to participating in every week. I love reading all of the thoughtful reviews and trying a new brew at the end of the day.

This has been an exciting week for me in terms of beer because I got to try my very first homebrew, and it was better than expected. I am very excited about taking on this new hobby and I'm hoping to brew my second batch by the end of the week.

Now, on to my beer selection:

I picked this one up today knowing nothing about it other than what can be found on the label. I love dark sour ales. In fact, New Belgium's La Folie was the beer that introduced me to sours and I have been in love ever since. This dark sour ale from Boulevard hit the shelves at my local shop today and I was inspired to grab it. Mine is the very first review!

    4.75/5 rDev +4.2%
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.75

750ml bottle, best by 2/03/19 poured into a wine glass. When opened, the cork shot straight to the ceiling.

Pours a deep ruby color with a nice, two finger head that has good retention and leaves a bit of lacing around the edges of the glass.

The aroma features a tantalizing array of dark fruits: plum, figs, and dates, accompanied by a touch of tart lemon.

The flavor follows the scent closely, except the tartness is front and center. Dark fruits dance on the palate with a toasty malt character and a bit of oak. Alcohol is invisible but warming as you drink.

Mouth feel is medium in body and crisp.

Overall, I find this a beautifully crafted beer. It's near perfect in every category. The aromas and flavors are complex yet they work so well together.

Thanks, I appreciate that. That was just my way of prodding myself into getting back in the swing, I suppose.

I'm hoping that the Jacobins beer was more of an introduction, but didn't know anything about it when I ordered it. Now you have me doing research :slight_smile:.

Well, another rotation of the Earth has allowed Monday to besiege us yet again. I am thankful (as I am sure others are) for the time and thought you put into this weekly thread. This one has run its course, but as long as Morher Earth keeps spinning, we'll get another chance to chat about new beers in our glasses.

    Cheers, all!!

I don't want to oversell the bitterness on it, but it is there enough to give you that feeling that you've definitely swallowed something. If you are ever in the area, see if you can find a Tap Brewing Solar Plexus DIPA. For me it is currently the perfect representation of a still somewhat bitter NE-ish IPA with no cloying fruit character.

As to Wachusett and your being a Red Sox fan, if you're anything like most non-New Englanders, hopefully you can forgive them for this one
