High On Fire are excellent.

 

So let's say I'm an idiot who hasn't booked a hotel room yet. What would you say are my best remaining options?

(First time attending DLD, going to be there with my wife)

 

Yeah, I'm not even a huge fan of metal but High on Fire are awesome.

 

Book hotel or AirBnB as close to fest as possible (avoiding areas you find to be 'unsafe') and then Uber back and forth from that location. In all likelihood it will be further from fest than you want, but I would say it's your best option.

Unless you want to spend weekend in Chicago in which case you could still book hotel or AirBnB and then catch shuttle from one of the few locations that will be running to and from DLD throughout that day. In this route, you want to make sure there is going to be space available on a potential shuttle.

 

You can always stay at the Holiday Inn in Tinley Park IL. There are shuttles that run from The Open Bottle which is within walking distance of the hotel.

Not exactly the closest solution. But you'd have a shuttle to and from DLD and could grab taps at The Open Bottle before and after. My buddies and I are on the 8:30 shuttle out and there's usually a decent little share on the ride to FFF's.

Edit* To be clear you'll need to purchase shuttle tickets on The Open Bottle's website. Both a drop off and pickup ticket.

 

I'm sorry... are you from Chicago? I don't trust anything until the day of. temperature and precipitation. It'll fluctuate 5-10 degrees before it is all said and done.

 

If you don't have anything yet, my friend booked an extra room at the Hammond Comfort Inn. They should have a shuttle to and from the event.

If you have a desire to do something that weekend besides just DLD, then book a hotel or something in Chicago. I hear it's a pretty fun city. A couple different companies run shuttles, and you shouldn't have a problem getting a ticket on one.

 

Last year was supposed to be 60 and sunny based on the forecast two weeks out. Do yourselves a favor and don't check the weather until a few days prior.
