Dark Lord is a demonic Russian-Style Imperial Stout brewed with coffee, Mexican vanilla, and Indian sugar.

Maybe I've missed it before but has DL always been made with vanilla?

Very disappointing. As a perennial late day attendee for group E, I would have stuck with that, but went for B for a chance to get a variant since the announced they would be short this year I haven't gotten before since FFF has toed the line on first come, first serve for years. Dick move by the Floyds, but it's the classic f-all mentality that keeps us smitten with them.

Not really upset at all for Group A. You still get to collect your bottles right away and then start enjoying the fest while others will be waiting for allotment in the middle of the day. It only sucks for people that had a hard on for a specific variant and expected it to be like the years past.

Guys position and time is going to have no bearing on this. The only way it will work is everyone gets a random tote. You will not know what you got until it's already in your hand. No choice on vintages either.

You get what you get and you don't get upset.

Yeah since like 2004/2006 or something. The first few batches were made with honey & molasses, but ever since it has had vanilla.

Obviously not tons and tons of it like the vanilla bombs most vanilla stouts are. Brewers used to add small amounts of adjuncts to just add traces of flavor, not hit you in the face with it. In recent years though, if you list vanilla as an ingredient, people expect to be knocked over with that flavor.

I ain't mad! Group C here. Just trying to wrap my brain around how this is going to work now.

I think maybe they threw in that little last min detail just to spark our page count.

To be honest, there's not a variant I wouldn't be interested in this year. So no real reason to be upset unless you really wanted Handjee. Bring on the Peaty Scotch BA Dark Lord.

That Three Floyd's would never make the efficient choice. It is a pretty good assumption in my opinion. I hope he is wrong though. That will be anarchy.

If it is not random, it will be complete and utter chaos as, folks from each group try to get to the front of the allotment line. People will not be spending money on taps or food. Seems not well thought out, unless it is truly random. Please don't give me a heavy tote, Mr. Worker!

I dont know man, reading that actually makes me feel better about passing on my C tickets.

Edit: Don't want to sound like a dick, the fest will still be balls to the walls fun. I just can't deal with lines where everyone is fuck you imma get mine.

My whole crew is in Group A, it will be a shit show.

Random would be tough because everyone has personal preference on what they like/dislike. It would make the festival a giant trading space for people who are unhappy with their variant. I do not think that is something Three Floyds wants happening during the festival.

What stops someone from Group A hopping to the front of Group B and getting first swing at variants? I do not think this can be monitored very well hence why I believe the even distribution will fall through, either through inefficiencies and/or incompetence.

I don't think so. The full quote from FAQs:

All ticket holders will receive one 2017 variant OR two bottles of vintage Dark Lord. The 2017 variants will be distributed evenly between groups A-E, on a first come first serve basis within each group.

So if it's not random, are people just going to ignore what group they're in vs. being the "front" of whichever group is the shortest pre-line, line? In the past, if you were late you'd just go in with a later group. If you're late now, you're more incentivized to just line up w/a later group than be the back of your own.

Mark me down as pro-random. The potential self-policed 6 hrs early Group B/C/D/E lines are going to be interesting.

Ok I am going to post seriously for a minute... No one is going to have a choice. It will be random otherwise I would just claim that I was group A but running late to hop into the front of any other group line. The people who work there only to collect a paycheck won't care and use the logic "Oh A before B in alphabet... go on through!" and group A people would still end up with the variants they actually wanted.

    PS: Boom, Roasted.
