They see trading as their distribution. And it's obvious that they do like the lines, adds hype, sells beer fast. In the Like Whoa doc, they do state they do plan to have more releases more often. We'll see what happens with the expansion.

For those who are interested in how OH cans their beer as mentioned above

I just wandered over to the Threes thread and they already have the exact system I suggested in my previous post.

Knowing that a smaller (?) and much less hyped brewery already has a sane system like that in place makes me kind of annoyed that OH hasn't bothered to do something similar.

Looks like I have a shopping cart to load up...

Online sales allows many more people to potentially buy the beer and I bet OH would sell out very quickly, leading to many more locals being shut out. If you knew you could buy OH beer and pick it up with no line, I bet many more people would order.

There's lots of ways around that. They could give locals earlier access (require a NYS ID with NYC address on pickup to verify). They could make it a lottery system where you register your interest to buy and they randomly pick people each week. They could allocate some percentage for in person purchase so people can still line up if they want. There would also be some % of out of towners that ambitiously order a lot and then can't make it to Brooklyn for whatever reason.

I live pretty close to the brewery and even if the result is that I get the same or less beer than I do now, I think I'd still trade that for the convenience of not having to waste part of my saturday monitoring this thread to see how big the line is and when they are going to run out of stuff.

Let's quit it with this "require a (insert state here) ID to buy (state) beer" idea. Showed up far too much in the Kane thread as well.

I don't necessarily agree with this either but are you saying people can't express their opinions?

I don't think I'm more entitled to OH beer than anyone else, I was just responding to tynian16 who said an online preorder system would mean locals getting shut out.

May be OH should think about opening a second location in Jersey like Trillium's Canton. Win for all??

Opinions are fine. But no matter the system, we're all going to get shut out sometimes with the amount of people in this area looking to buy beer from the same places - local or not. It's definitely entitlement to say that only people from NYS can buy beer from a NY brewery. That one's my opinion.

I live very close to OH. I think unless you can demonstrate you live in the same zip, you shouldn't be allowed to buy their beer.

I think that if you haven't dined in at the McDonalds across the street on a weekday, you shouldn't be allowed cans or growler fills, but you can get unlimited 4oz pours of any stouts on tap.

I live in OH's basement. I think unless you can demonstrate you have the same address as they do, you shouldn't be allowed to buy their beer.

What else are you guys doing with your Saturday mornings? just curious since it seems like one of the easier times of the week for a release, better than 2 pm on a weekday

Truthfully I'm spending time with my kid (who I don't get to see much during week as I work M-F), and then when he naps I'll work out for an hour or two (as I don't get to do much of that during the week either). Not judging other parents who work M-F who do line up - just answering the q

Are you saying you can't think of anything better to do in NYC on a Saturday than wait in line for beer? I can think of at least four, and two of them don't involve waiting in line for a different trendy consumable.

It's not really the when that is annoying but the amount of time that it takes. I already know exactly how much beer I will be getting from Threes a week and a half from now. The only unknown is what time on one of three separate days I choose to go pick it up.

With the amount of money I personally have spent at OH in the last six months, they could put a good down payment on a online prepurchasing system...

^I personally get there early (I'm not the type to sleep in late) and I'm always leaving by 10 30, still have plenty of the day to do whatever else I want/need to do

The online system works with threes and such because their demand is much, much less, even after doing the online sale they still have plenty for walk-ins, threes beers are pretty far from what other half is doing
