Yeah, I know -- I think what happened all those times was having such a great time at HB we cashed in our energy there and headed home.

Also, wasn't there some odd joint directly across from the HB, became a Hard Rock Cafe at some point? I think that place always distracted (deterred?) us from going beyond the HB -- made the area sort of circus-like.

I enjoyed Ayinger beers at Ayinger Speiß&Trank am Platzl maybe 2 times. I've been to the more famous tavern directly across it a few more times I guess. Both good, but yeah, as much as the Hofbräuhaus is looked down upon as a tourist location I.......kinda like it, it's not even too expensive beer whise, and.....I really, really like their Dunkles...

Yep, it's a Hard Rock Cafe. So you get tourists for that and the HB--that part of Platzl is certainly a busy spot!

Do you have to lie on your back and tilt your head, like you were kissing the Blarney Stone?

Kidding aside, I'd do it! :grinning:

(Lew Bryson has coined his own mantra for beer drinking: "Lips to the Zwickel!")

Well, the guide filled a pitcher in between the Zwickel and my glass.

I have similar feelings about the Hofbräuhaus. There's no doubt that it's touristy, but the beer is still good and the atmosphere is fun. I loved sitting near the band, enjoying my maß of dunkel and a bretzel.

I've homebrewed a clone recipe of this beer three times and loved it, so I'm looking forward to trying the real think when I'm in Munich in about 4 weeks. This beer is not available in the US as far as I know, or at least not in Michigan.

Nope, I already posted about my tasting in this thread.

A photograph of the Ayinger Maibock I drank in Philadelphia is below.

I hope you enjoy your vacation.

    Cheers!

i'm usually more into yeast-driven Hefeweizens, but Schneider always pleases me with their more wheat-forward ones.

Not really sure where to put this, but my childhood experiences drinking Spezi in Bayern have inspired me to add this to my new line of all-natural craft sodas (along with root beer and cream soda). Prost Jungs!

You need to add this brewery to the BA listings. I see Rate Beer has it, but not BA.

It's not a beer I've had but I thought it was interesting enough to post about here, Paulaner is now selling a Paulaner Zwickl which they market as using a dreimaischverfahren, a term which at least historically would mean the boiling of two thick mashes and one thin mash, i.e the old Bavarian mashing technique (which nowadays is mostly associated with Czech brewing). I lift my hat to them for going as far as to bring back an old mashing regiment for this beer, a regimen which was sure to be standard for Paulaner in the 1800s and early 1900s (just as it was for German-inspired Swedish lager beer breweries in the same time period).

The specs for the beer is 12.5% OG, 5.5% abv, 23 IBU. Pilsner and Munich malt. Hallertauer Tradition and Hersbrucker hops.

Is this part of their Braumeister series by any chance?

It seems as though it is independent from it, the beer is listed under their spezialitäten (akin to their Salvator), as well as having a separate listing on the website, whereas the Braumeister series had their own heading. So brandingwise this seems more connected to the Paulaner brand.

We're in Cape Girardeau Missouri and found Hofbrau Kellerbier on tap. I've never even seen it in St. Louis.

Only place I've ever heard of it was at the HB USA restaurants/brew-pubs.

Is that the HB Sommerbier or a different one?
