What beer are you drinking now? #1659

Morning! I have not started cooking yet. Today I think it's pepperoni pizza. It was 60 degrees this morning so I got this. cheers!

 

Good Morning BA, have a great Saturday! Looking to be a nice relaxing day. Might fire up the work PC to do some projects, but I am not as heavy loaded as I was a few months ago on job tasks. Definitely need to work some more on my music library to stock up on my new found love for Symphonic Black Metal. Keep finding new bands all the time on YouTube.

Fantastic Gose as always, just got a fresh pack this week. Glad they went to 6 packs! Flavors of big tart/sour cherry, lemon, lime, green apple, wheat, cracker, coriander, sea salt, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice sized fruity/lactic sour and lightly spicy finish. Balanced cherry/lacto acidity, salinity, and light grainy wheat creaminess in the mouthfeel. Highly drinkable and refreshing despite acidity, slightly puckering. One of my all time favorites in the style, I definitely drank over a case in the last year . Likely will go through the same amount this year. Especially over the summer. Does not feel quite as lactically sour this year, but still fantastic and easier drinking.


Incredible IPA as always, one of my main go-to favorites. Just got a fresh pack this week. Bright and juicy flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pineapple, citrus rind, and pine hops; with some light caramel, lightly toasted bread malt balance; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/grassy bitterness; with a smooth, crisp, and sticky hop mouthfeel; with some light balancing grainy malt creaminess. Moderately dry and extremely drinkable; never astringent. Never gets old, always fantastic. I will always love classic C hopped beers, even with all of the new hop varieties flooding the market. My most bought IPAs all have them.


Fantastic coffee stout! Flavors of big nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of vanilla, raisin, cherry, smoke, char, and herbal hops. Very complex and vibrant fruity/nutty coffee character. Light-moderate herbal hop and roast/char bitterness; great bittersweet balanced roasted finish. Medium-full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel; light hop stickiness and chalky roast/coffee notes as well. Lightly increasing roasted dryness, never acrid or astringent. Super smooth, minimal warming 8% ABV. Amazingly rich, complex, and well balanced. I am definitely buying another 6 pack, got one can left now.


Finally got a hold of this through a friend of friend. Was my 2000th review 3 years ago, and 4th highest rated beer right now. Does it still live up to my memory? I would definitely say yes! 1/9/2016 dated. Flavors of huge caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, brown sugar, chocolate, raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, tobacco, and leather. Slight bitterness and bourbon/tannic oak spice on the finish. Fairly full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel; slightly slick, syrupy, sticky, and tannic. Touch of tannic/woody dryness. The barrel balance and complexity is absolutely perfect, just as I remember. Insanely smooth for 13.4%, .9% higher than the 2013 bottle I reviewed. Mildly warming, zero booziness. Never overly tannic or drying. Basically the same/similar age as I had this originally. I was offered up a chance to buy a 5 year vertical from my friend, I am definitely going to take up that offer. This beer is a national treasure of English barleywines.

Good morning BAs! Another cool, wet day here in NW PA. We used up half of our 30 annual sunny days in January and February. I was able to mow the south facing sloped portion of my front yard yesterday evening - the level shady parts are getting as green as Ireland, for the same reasons.

Mrs. Lizard and I had a pleasant luncheon meeting with @SomethingClever yesterday at the Wexford Ale House. Dave is responsible for today's New Breakfast Beer - thanks Dave!

Watching some early Kentucky Derby coverage and handicapping today's races. It's tradition to start the day with something bourbon barrel aged from a trusty 1968 julep glass I found years ago.
