Yeah and Chicago is second with 158 but 150 of them suck. There is your sign...

Only if you mean organic, locally sourced, hand made pesto!

Another reason for me to visit the PNW.

But I am also tempted to visit deep south, Louisiana, Alabama.

    Cheers!

Are they counting homebrewers as breweries? Because these numbers are too high. New York doesn't have the number listed there, no way. Meanwhile, Albuquerque, with a fraction of the population of Seattle, Chicago, NYC, has likely more breweries. If we're talking per capita, I have to think ABQ is in the top 5 nationwide.

There certainly are a lot of breweries in and around Seattle but considering the Seattle-Tacoma corridor all one city is a bit of a stretch. Seattle and Tacoma are 45 miles apart, depending on how far north or east the "city" of Seattle goes this would be something like 5,000+ square miles..

    From the article
"Instead of staying within city limits, Datafiniti looked at Metropolitan Statistical Areas. For instance, instead of looking at San Francisco proper, they included the surrounding cities in the Bay Area. For Seattle, they included what we we would call the Seattle-Tacoma area. Among other top cities for breweries, Chicago ranked second, followed by Denver and Portland."

Here is the article it came from. ABQ is number 15 per capita, not bad, still behind Seattle per capita.

Honestly, you could count Everett-Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia as 1 city. It's basically one homogenized urban area.

WA, as a state, has in the neighborhood of 400 breweries, last time I looked. Most of them either package small quantities, or not at all, and sell most of their beer over their own bar in a taproom.

I'll just say that around here we are thrilled with the outbreak of breweries. There is a lot of old local prominent German and Czech heritage, not to mention the English, the Scots, and the Irish. Beer just comes natural and I see a real embracing of these new local brews. These are heady days for breweries that don't just depend on urban locale.

We are moving next week from Minneapolis - a fine beer town with ready access to Wisconsin -- to the Portland area which ranks even higher. Our house hunting trip was strongly coupled to a beer expedition.

Just a figure of speech . I really like pesto, too, and I'm sure I'd love Seattle as well. I used to visit Portland in the 90s, but never made it up your way, unfortunately.

Concur. If you count Snohomish County it's a buttload more breweries.

You could, but I'm not certain that it's accurate. Seattle to Tacoma is 45 miles, which is similar to the distance between D.C. and Baltimore for example.

Right. And, as a former OTR truck driver in that area, York PA to Richmond VA is one big city to my eyes as well. The argument can even be made that Boston to Richmond is the biggest city in America.
