Being in the minority, however, does not make us wrong.

FF only has sours on close their releases.

Greenman almost always a Berliner of some type on at dirty jacks.

I've had several sours or wild ale IPA blends at Burial too. They release two sour beers at the end of the month, so there may be an uptick coming on that end.

^Yup. I've had FF's grisette's and more sour saisons on random days going (which are well worth pours of), but I don't think their fruited sours last much longer then the week around the releases.

This. You can still donate to Eblen directly.

This is good info, thanks for letting us know. I guess there's no need to discuss this further, everyone. OtherHalfHearted has spoken.

You can buy a house for no money down in most places. But I don't think that was the author's point.

They're probably going to make it out of this with way more money and publicity than they would have otherwise gotten.

They might do it. If they felt that it would somehow help them make more money and crush their competition. But I agree that doesn't seem likely.

I just hope whatever Haw River intended to bring will be tapped at the brewery.

Is the counter fest really going to be in MA? In one of the comments to the FB post someone said that some affiliate of Jack`s Abby was trying to get the breweries that backed out to participate in a new festival in MA on the same weekend?

It might be a bit much to have it in Asheville right under their noses, but for selfish reasons I was hoping the counter fest would be in NC.

"In emails and a phone call, Joe Connolly, general manager at Springdale Barrel Room in Framingham, Mass., confirmed to Tenemu that the brewery is working on an event named We’re Funk’d: Sour Stroll 2017, which will encompass up to 10 bars in the Cambridge and Somerville areas. The event is being billed as a way to get all of the breweries together who had already budgeted time, effort and beer for Wicked Weed’s Invitational, but decided not to attend after the brewery announced on Wednesday that it was being acquired by AB InBev.

Springdale Barrel Room is an expansion of Jack’s Abby Brewing that was founded to experiment with ale yeasts and sour cultures in beers.

“Each bar will commit 10-40 lines in support of a charity of their choice, as well as an optional food pairing,” said Connolly in an email to Tenemu. “These bars are all within reasonable walking distance of one another. The event will culminate in an exclusive, “big guns beer” mini festival at a venue TBD in Cambridge/Somerville, the proceeds of which will go to our charity of choice, the MS Society.
While details are still being finalized, We’re Funk’d: Sour Stroll 2017 is expected to feature passports and maps that will be handed out at each bar location, along with details about the beers. In addition, each brewery will be able to highlight their own route, “leveraging social media to drive consumers to literally follow them around all afternoon,” according to Connolly.

While the event will feature some of the breweries that are not attending Wicked Weed’s Invitational, other breweries will be invited as well.

Connolly told Tenemu that prices, the number of breweries, a location for the final festival event and other details are still being worked out, but that the event will be scheduled for either July 7 or July 8."

That doesn't sound like the 'counter festival' that's been mentioned, as that was specifically mentioned as benefiting the same charity. This sound like something separate that's being setting up. Sounds like a really cool concept.

I do not believe that Wicked Weed imagined that the reaction/backlash for this deal would even approach this level.......customers, breweries, bottle shops, etc. WOW!!!

They clearly underestimated everyone's loyalty to craft beer. If they were smart they would've waited till after the event before announcing their sellout.

I'm sure they made the deal to sell after plans had been made for the event, and they couldn't cancel it without a reason. So they had to wait until the deal was in place. Bad timing for them, but perfect timing for a lot of breweries to make a stand.
