    Hi fellow beer lovers,

I will be driving though Asheville in a few weeks for vacation and want to pick up some beer on the way through. I have done this in the past and have gotten carry out from Bruisin' Ales and the main Wicked Weed location. I was thinking of stopping by Burial this time around and getting some cans to go. I will be limited with time and may want to pick up some other beer from other local breweries. I have recently taken to sours and will be looking for anything appealing that is good pool/beach weather beer. Any suggestions on beers or shops would be greatly appreciated. Here is a short list of local/NC beers I remember having in no particular order:

    Freak of Nature
    Pernicious
    Hob Burglar
    Napoleon Complex
    Black Angel
    Marina
    Highland IPA
    Foothills Jade(really like this one)

Tasty Beverage (across the street from The Funkatorum) should stock all of those.

Great thanks. Does Tasty Beverage carry Burial cans also? Is there anything new from anyone local over the past few years that I should look for?

I know Highland IPA is on your list but I absolutely loved their Southern Sixer.

Yes, Tasty does carry Burial cans/bottles. But I'd still recommend popping into Burial (which is just around the corner from Tasty) for any newer releases that aren't yet at Tasty (like their new DIPA releases and they have some sours coming out soon).

Ok great thank you for this Jerry. I didn't realize that Burial was close to Tasty. Sounds like I might hit Burial for their stuff and hit up Tasty for everything else.

I hear there is a Burial can release this Saturday. Any info on how these things go? Crazy packed? Cans available for a couple days? Thanks

Seriously, dont slip on Appalachian Vintner
Unless there is a rare beer takeover somewhere else in town, App Vintner will have the best tap list. Here is a link to their live tap list. http://www.appalachianvintner.com/live-beer-draft-list/

Yes I looked at their current tap list and it looks pretty impressive. Unfortunately I will be driving all day and won't have time to enjoy any draft in Asheville.

Typically not crazy and they usually have cans at least through Sunday, if not through the following week. Early afternoons on the weekends are usually (not always) surprisingly not too busy there.

I also throw my vote in with Tasty. It's just a block away from Burial.

Well I will be arriving in Asheville around 8:30pm on a Friday. I figured I will check Burial's website for the updated carryout that morning, hit them up when I arrive then slip over to Tasty Beverage to get my other non Burial beers. Here is a short list of beers I will be on the lookout for:

    Surf Wax IPA
    Hawkbill IPA
    Scythe

    Hop Fiend(Boojum)

Still need to figure out something non hoppy that will be good poolside/beach beer.

FYI BooJum six packs are like gas station available in AVL. I bought a six pack at the Marathon in W AVL last time I was there.

If you're debating between the Burial stuff above, just go with the Surf Wax. Best one by far out of those 3.

I'll put a second vote in for Appalachian Vintner as a bottle shop. I always hit it up on my way out of town to finish out a trip. Great selection of beers from all over.

Third, larger selection at Appalachian Vinitners. Tasty feels very picked over to me, though I'm in there all the time for their taps.

Thank you for the advice everyone. I am hoping I can get at least two of those three Burial beers. I know Scythe isn't around all the time but I love Rye beers so I was hoping a bottle hope might have some. Zebulon sounds like they make some good sour type beers so I will definitely check out anything I can find from them. Appalachian Vintners would be on the way for me leaving Burial to our next destination(Spantanburg) and it looks like it is a short drive. If the selection is better at Appalachian over Tasty that sounds good to me.

The selection is absolutely miles better at Appalachian as compared to Tasty. What Tasty has going for it is being on the South Slope right next to half a dozen breweries so its really convenient. They also have good taps, though so does App Vintner.
