Three Floyds Releases

I enjoy FFF for Darklord Day and some of their one-off beers. I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy since I've never had a majority of their beers (Yum Yum, Alpha King, Behemoth, Moloko, etc.). I'm a huge fanboy of Rue though

 

Alpha King is legit.

I think that was a typo, they wanted to one up the muscat barrels from last year so this year they went with muskrat barrels. You will get notes of earthy, muddy river water, grass, kopi luwak flavors without the coffee, snails, sewage, and clover. The tag line is "Who doesn't want a little rodent in their Dwarven Power Bottom."

 

Is anyone else seriously disappointed at the April batch of Wigsplitter? I had the original batch on draft and in bottles multiple times, and it was my favorite coffee stout other than the Double Shot Sumatra Mandheling I traded for once. But this most recent batch is not good at all, in my opinion. It tastes like low-quality, over-roasted Seattle's Best, super earthy and dark, with dirt and vegetal bell peppers. It didn't even have the same appearance and mouthfeel as previous rounds of Wigsplitter.

 

Is 3F releasing a sour this year before DID? Like Bloobs last year...

 

I'm not going to lie, Crack The Skye ruined Wigsplitter for me. It was one of my favorite coffee stouts, and the recent times I've had it I felt that it was just coming up short - although it's not really fair to compare the two

 

3 Fonteinen releases quite a few sours throughout the year, though you may have to take a relatively long flight to get some before DLD if you don't have any at the moment.

 

Crack the Skye was great, and I was also fortunate enough to get to try it on draft and bottled. But even comparing Wigsplitter against previous batches of itself... this one just doesn't match up.

 

I just had it on tap and thought it was $$$$. Loved it! Tons of barrel and hops, what's not to like?
