Happy hump day ba. The weekend cannot get here fast enough. Another nice fresh ipa from Barrier, this is Kapow. 7% abv, double dry hopped, and I don't have the hop profile. Crazy good, 5/1/17,

Binkie Claws/Doggie Claws is 13.4% ABV while Doggie Claws is listed at 11.5%. Upon further investigation they both appear to have pilsner malts, honey, and simcoe and amarillo hops. So it seems like one might be a stronger version of the other.

Today's Reviews:

Glad to see AtG finally can date, maybe I will buy them more often now. This was really nice! Fantastic head retention and thick lasting lacing on the glass. Flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, orange peel, pear, melon, apple, and light pepper/pine hops; with balancing wheat, cracker, white bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Similar but muted aromas. Light-moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slight resins and increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Moderately crisp and refreshing finish. Great hop vibrancy with balanced malts. This is pretty damn spot on for an IPL. Clean and not yeasty. Ella hops are really unique. 3.91


Fantastic!! Aromas and flavors of huge medium roast coffee, vanilla, almond, cream, honey, lightly toasted biscuit, anise, licorice, and fennel; with lighter notes of milk chocolate and cocoa from the coffee. Some herbal spice earthiness. Mild herbal spice and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied bready creaminess; slight spice stickiness and chalkiness from the coffee. Slightly drying from bitter/spicy notes after the finish. Never cloyingly sweet or overly heavy. Minimal warming 12%. Dangerously smooth. Perfectly balanced coffee, malt, and spice flavors. Never overwhelming, and the spices seem to compliment the creamed coffee flavor perfectly somehow. Loved this one. 4.2

Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, bourbon, spicy rye whiskey, and dark bread; with some mild coconut and dark fruits. Light-moderate pine/citrus peel/roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; balanced bready/grainy creaminess, hop stickiness, chalky roast, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Light resins and increasing bitter/tannic dryness; no astringency. Mildly warming 11.6%. Really impressive. This has pretty much perfect balance between barrel, hops, and roasted malt flavors all around. Never boozy with great presence of both Bourbon and Templeton Rye barrels. Pricey, but was definitely worth a go. 4.13

My first beer from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, c/o @superspak's generous BIF box. It's a nicely-crafted Brown Ale with lots of coconut.

Made my first beer run in a good long while. No Hoptimum, no Mars, Cultivator, Singlecut or Puff. But they did have this and some Sumatra Brown, so I can't complain. Is it Friday yet? I'm ready for Friday.

 

Splitting this one with Thing 1. Love the level of heat in this one.
