The Half-Acre thread (2018)

Just got back from here and the GDDC is on the floor now. About 8 cases.

 

Grabbed a couple 4 packs of GDDC at the Mokena Binny's tonight. Looked to be about 6 cases on the floor for those of you in the SW burbs.

 

any GDDC sightings in the nw burbs?

 

I hear Thursday but if anyone knows or heard differently please let us know

It is out at the new (now open) bg binnys, maybe 5-6 cases it looked like, no posted limit

 

Where is the new buffalo grove located?

 

Lake Cook and Weiland (old staples). Just down the block really.

 

It's the "wheeling" location now in case anyone is trying to search for it in the Binnys website.

 

I was a little hesitant on trying the GDDC since I thought Daisy Cutter was so bad and bland...

All I gotta say now though is, holy moly. I'm a believer. Picked up another 4pack... this stuff is fire.

 

I've never heard anyone call Daisy cutter bad. Maybe bland to some who enjoy more intensity.

 

Different tastes I suppose. I just didn't think the rave ratings for DC matches the taste, for my expectations.

I tried it a number of different times just to be sure I didn't get bad cans or something... But I was underwhelmed each time.

GDDC blew me away though.

I thought it was good but just a bit too piney when I had my first can Saturday afternoon (bought at the brewery). Had my second one last night and thought it was fantastic. It's probably just a palate thing, but my first thought was that maybe the 5 days or so helped it settle.

 

I should show myself out too. I think Daisy Cutter is fairly awful.

 

When I first had DC I was let down since it didn't live up to the image I had hyped up in my mind. It's perfectly solid (imo) for what it is, and what it is is a refreshing lower ABV IPA.

When you have DDC and GDDC, however, it becomes pretty clear that all beer really needed was a higher ABV (and sure, some galaxy hops don't hurt, either ).

 

I think a lot of people don't understand what a pale ale is supposed to be

 

I usually find 2-4 weeks puts HA in the sweet spot. And most ipa's really.

 

I would call something bland bad... Daisy Cutter was the bomb (No pun intended) back in the day, but now everyone in Chicago has similar or better offerings, especially HA in BHA and GDDC.

My GF drank 3.5 cans of my 4 pack of GDDC as she wasn't a fan of the Salute Your Simcoe crowlers I opened. I was quite happy with the SYS, but I'm not dropping $17 for another 4 pack if I'm only getting half a can!
