What if they have to be somewhere by 11?

Then they probably shouldn't be standing in line for beer. Or buying beer. Or anywhere near beer.

Then they would be cutting it close with the Saturday traffic.

Haha thanks! when people ask beer equivalent of "how long is a piece of string" - you have to get creative

Similar to the saying "If you have to ask, you can't afford it", all ALL questions should be answered with "If you have to ask, you don't have what it takes to wait in a 5 hour line".

The forecast for saturday looks pretty bad. I am not going to get my hopes up too high but this might be one of those weekends that owning a car in NYC pays off.

There's definitely an interesting math question or game theory application here that could be studied if you were somehow able to count the people in the lines and accurately classify them accordingly- my belief is that the motivation to stand in line is a meaningful and valuable criterion for class membership which could be used to predict ALL. For instance, the resellers are likely to stand in line irrespective of any factor besides the amount of beer for sale (different cans) and anticipated resale value of the cans (triple dry hopped = higher resale value). There are also regular fans who must drive from afar and thus incur high travel costs that may be deterred by other properties of the beer (e.g., cans that have been released before), or inclement weather (since there's no income to compensate for the inconvenience). And of course there are NYC/LI residents who drive or take transit from nearby and probably wait until the last minute to decide whether or not waiting on the line is worth it, based on an assumption we can get a pint or a growler later to avoid FOMO.

I'm sure there are many other classes of buyers but I suspect these three make up the bulk of them. Based on the weather and the beers then, the resellers will most likely be fully represented to whatever max percentage of the line they typically compose, but regular fans and even some local residents will probably sit it out or wait to see if any of the cans last until Sunday. My prediction is a staggered line condition- constant, medium length (at least halfway down Centre or just past the corner near the recycling center)- that lasts until at least two of the cans have sold out.

Anyone in a Master or in a Doctoral Program? This topic would make for a great thesis.

I've had the opportunity to talk with someone in a similar position in a different state who runs a brewery. You can model it all you want, and ascribe different values to each factor, but it is not rational and is neither predictable, nor repeatable. As someone that worked in asset management before and worked with active managers, it's one in the same. You are pretty much day trading if you are guessing on a day-to-day basis and don't have portfolio guidelines. You'll never be perfect on how you allocate beer and to which locations.

Cheddar Broccoli tasted so much better in that glass. But, the cheddar in the broccoli glass was disappointing.

Revisiting Ain't Nothing Nice right now. Officially my favorite of last week's release. So well-balanced. As much as I like the DDH palate-assaults, a nice malt backbone is a welcomed change of pace.

I'm not sure what makes anyone from Brooklyn anymore deserving of other half's beer then from other boroughs. I know tons of people from said borough that have been going to other half since opening days.

You're responding to a clearly tongue-in-cheek post. That said, it's not about being "more deserving." We're all just fucking customers here.

We locals (LOL, how many of us grew up in Carroll Gardens or Gowanus) just wish Other Half would lower limits in order to cut down on hoarding and reselling (plenty of breweries do this: Hill Farmstead, Tree House, etc.). And if we weren't complaining here every week, this thread would be boring as hell.

Maybe my post came across a little strong - sorry - when it comes to OH I can get pretty passionate. I don't want imply that any one borough is "better" or wildly more deserving than another.

Maybe a better term for Brooklynites vis-à-vis Other Half would be "primus inter pares", and they (we) should be accorded a few perks. I don't know - maybe proof of address allowing the person to: skip the line / receive larger allocations / pay deeply discounted prices. Or make one of the releases each week a Brooklyn-only affair. I don't know, I'm just spitballing - but something along those lines. I'm sure you agree that's not an unreasonable request.

And I'm sure we can all agree on my comment re: the Bronx lol
