Robomunky hit it: Nothing but applause for de Garde, including in this awkward situation explained above. Your beer is wonderful, and to boot, you are stand up people, and I'll defend you, riding on a giant sea horse, dual-wielding clam guns. You know what they say, "Never bring a handtruck to a clam gun fight." (Someone said that, I'm sure!)

    Cheers!

It's a little rough, but it's yours if you want it.

@deGardebrewing ; "riding on a giant sea horse, dual-wielding clam guns" HAS to be the new T-shirts. Put me down for 2 3XLs.

The upcoming DC flick with Jason Momoa got NOTHING on this!

    Bravo!

Totally support that stance. Showing up that often and admitting you're re-selling things and someone paid you to go pick it up is totally shady.

Gonna be in Tillamook for two days next week. Anybody have some recommendations for some daytime and dinner options? Willing to drive maybe 30 min. in any direction. Gonna hike around in the day and hydrate at night and in between. Read through the past posts...Otis Cafe is on our radar. Will be heading to Yachats later after a quick stay in Portland and work way to California.

De Garde, Tillamook, and Blue Heron are already in the plans. Might even try clamming in Garibaldi. Alas, I don't have a clam gun either so I'm not sure whether this is possible.

Check out the air museum in Tillamook. And, what the hell, be like a million other tourists and tour Tillamook dairy.

Probably too far a drive for you, but I've always been a huge fan of Tidal Raves. Great seafood selection, and the location is hard to beat. Might be worth the drive for you...

@John_M Thanks for the suggestion. When we leave Portland to go to Yachats, we will pass through Lincoln City and head south. That looks like the ideal time to stop at Tidal Raves based on the map I looked at. I'll see if wife is down with a food and view stop. I'm excited to experience the PNW and all its beauty.

Thanks for the suggestion on Tidal Raves. Will be in Portland next week, and doing the coast on Thursday. Want to see Depoe Bay and maybe Pacific City before de Garde.

Be sure to check out Yachats Brewing while you're in Yachats.

Any good spots to stop at on our way in from Portland?

Not really. Assuming you're taking the hiwy 26/6 route, you'll make a left turn off the hiway before you actually come into Tillamook (and then drive a couple of miles to the tasting room). Really, once you leave the Hillsboro/Forest Grove area, other than a few diners, gas stations, gift shops and espresso bars, there's not much in the way of any diversions until you get to the tasting room.

As indicated in this thread, if you want to spend some time on the coast before or after your visit to the tasting room, then there are a number of places you can check out in Pacific City, Astoria, Cannon Beach, Lincoln City, etc. But none of those places are "on the way" to the tasting room. As you're heading out of Portland, certainly there are some places in Beaverton, Hillsboro, etc., that I would describe as good spots, but they're only 15 or 20 minutes outside of Portland, so my feeling is why bother? The selection in Portland is going to be considerably superior to anything you're going to find in Hillsboro or Beaverton, so if you want to hit some good spots prior to arriving at dG, that's where I would focus my attention.

Just my two cents. Have fun.

    Hello

I am an avid fan of De Garde Brewing and feel that they make the best sours and farmhouse beers I have ever had. Because I like the beer so much I have always wanted to visit the brewery. My wife and I will be traveling out to De Garde on Thursday July 6th. We are traveling from Chicago on June 28th and we will return on July 8th. We have never been to Oregon and this will be the only brewery I really want to visit and spend time at in the state because my wife is pregnant and I do not want to drag her around from brewery to brewery. We are excited to visit De Garde but have heard that many on premise beers are available only in bottles, I saw your facebook post and it looks like there are taps available but just a bit more limited. Both of us are very social people and would like to figure out if there is a way to gather a small group who would want to purchase bottles from the bar to drink on premise? Is there another social outlet to organize a bar share? Also we were wondering if the brewery was going to be open on July 6th?

    Thanks for your responses

the vibe in the tasting room is really awesome. im sure if you strike up conversation with people in there youll find some takers to share some in house bottles. also, theres a dG centric facebook group that you can try posting in...id also try the FB group called "beer tasting portland".

other than that, the 6th is a thursday so they most def should be open..

youre gonna have a blast regardless! dG is such an awesome place to visit and the staff is the absolute best. maybe youll get lucky and they will drop something nice for you to take away too.

Hey, there. I'm sure you'll find plenty of other social people in the taproom willing to split the on premise bottles. dG is also good about splitting on prem bottles between tabs as long as you ask.

Also, as long as is not a chaotic day at the taproom, sharing private bottles has always been allowed. Just be sure you let the staff open the bottles...and share .

Is there some reason you don't want to call the brewery and just ask? As I'm sure you know, dG typically IS open on Thursday, so I can't imagine why they wouldn't be on the 6th, unless for some reason they were going to be closed for the entire week in observance of the 4th of July. If that were the case, I have to think that information would be posted on their website and/or facebook page, as that's less than a month away (and at present, there's no mention of special hours in observance of the holiday). Still, if you want to be absolutely sure, I would think the best way to do that is to call them (both FaceBook and the website encourage would be visitors to give them a call if they have any questions not answered by the information already posted on FB and their website).

As for your other question, that I can answer. dG allows on premise consumption of any of their currently available bottled beers (I don't believe there's any corkage or upcharge for on premise bottle consumption), and in fact there is an "on premise only" bottle list that typically has around 15 or 20 bottles. It's actually pretty common to see people engaging in the sort of social gathering you're proposing, though on a Thursday (which is typically fairly slow), there's a good change you'll have the tasting room virtually to yourself.

    Enjoy your trip.

thanks for all of the hasty responses we are excited I love the beer and have been told to try some of De Gardes on premise only bottles from the bar menu. Heard they always have some bomb beers available. I will contact De Garde and get a hold of the FB group called "beer tasting portland".

I will look over this post for places to stay and food to eat thanks.

Mostly agreed, although I'm not sure if they always have current to-go bottles cold. They do have a fantastic on-site list and it's rare for people to pop bottles and not share.

However, the days of having the tasting room mostly to yourself are long gone (which selfishly makes me sad but is a hat tip to dG and their success.) There's a sizable group that is there every Thursday by open, and the only chance you'll have for a quiet tasting room is if they don't drop any new/sexy bottles. Those weekends are some of the most fun.
