This was a hypothetical post. I support my local breweries whenever I can and their beer does not have to be earth shattering. My point was that I also like beers that are not made locally. I like beers from other States, countries and continents. I think people should be more open-mided than only drinking beer if it's made X.XX miles away. That's just my personal opinion.

I've only ever rejected one free beer while I was drinking (I feel no qualms about saying no to alcohol if I'm not in the mood), and that was from an AB InBev rep trying to get me to try the "new" "craft" "pilsner", 329 Days of Sun Lager. I'd have accepted it from a brewer at Golden Road, but I wanted to take an opportunity to directly say no to AB InBev's bullshit marketing.

... I still felt a bit like an asshole afterwards.

lol someone had to play devil's advocate here, part of the problem in this neck of the woods is it's hard to find anything fresh and keep getting skipped on the bigger beers they release like Hoptimum, not sure if it's the truth but I was told they use distilled hop oil in a lot of their IPA's to increase shelf life... in the explosion of micro breweries lately I would rather go get a local growler fill than anything sitting on the shelves for over three months but that's just me, you can all go back to your regularly scheduled 'bash on someone for not wanting to drink what I want to' thread

My friends just turned down me offering to pick up at least two SN 12 packs for a Memorial Day get-together. They want Boulevard (the big local brewery). Oh well.

I don't see the point in calling them a bitch or tool for it though. I offered, they declined. Now I get to save money, or just buy the same amount of beer, but claim all of it

But I don't see a problem with them wanting something else. They have a preference. They weren't smug about it which is what this post was originally about.

Ah, I see. There are two ways I read the original quote, and one isn't so smug and is more of a passing thought.

Then, with how many folks jumped on him for turning down a free beer, I was starting to read this thread as "never turn down a free beer".

So many brewers these days are hopping on the NE-IPA bandwaggon, but they're "boiling," and "fermenting," and using "malt." While real NE-IPAs flow freely from wild hop vines, touched by neither man nor machine.

I rarely buy SN these days (the last one I bought was the tropical torpedo that I found out was recalled for broken glass as I was drinking one) mainly because there are several local breweries where I can stop by on the weekend and get cans of beer with yesterday's date printed on the bottom. It doesn't hurt that most of those beers are better than most SN styles I've had.

However, I would never turn down any free beer in a social context, let alone a SN. My family thinks I like Bud Light Lime because it's always available at family functions and I drink it.

Hop Hunter. Other than that they use whole cone hops. Ask your local favorite what they use.

Edit - To extend shelf life they have great brewing practices and state of the art packaging systems to introduce low amounts of Total Packagead Oxygen. Ask your local what their TPO is. They most likely don't know.

If they aren't craft, how do they get all of the small craft breweries of the moment to be into their collaboration packs?

    As well as 2 X 12 packs or 6 X 4 packs cans in a cardboard trays.

Take two 6-packs bottles or three 4-packs cans to register, pay, when cashier asks "Would you like these in a bag or box?" say "Yes. please!" = INSTANT 12 PACK!

Wow, I don't think I ever turned down a free cold beer. I happen to love SN, always good, always available, very good pricing, etc etc.

Jeff, to the point that @peej posted of:

"...there are several local breweries where I can stop by on the weekend and get cans of beer with yesterday's date printed on the bottom."

Is knowing the TPO value a real concern?

    Cheers!

Well, if you drink quickly. Some small affordable canning lines are high!

Edit - they probably don't know. Which is my point. You can't control what you can't/don't measure.

Yes, I do believe that is a point that @peej was making but perhaps I should permit him to comment here.

    Cheers!

P.S. The majority of the SN beers in my local beer retailers are many months old (at room or warmer temperatures) and while I appreciate the steps SN takes at the brewery these retail conditions are very much less than ideal. My preference would be for the local SN Sales Reps to create conditions of beers being fresher than they are here.
