What beer are you drinking now? #1677

Good morning BAs! Today's New Breakfast Beer isn't really new - I last had it in 2012 but that was before I enlisted in BA so I hadn't reviewed it here. We stopped at The Brew Kettle for lunch on Sunday while heading home from Frankenmuth, MI, and I had both the White Rajah and the Black Rajah with my pulled pork sandwich, all of which were excellent!

 

Del Borgo Genziana. Probably one of the best beers I've ever had. Amazing flavor profile with elements not commonly encountered in beer (yet in perfect harmony with the rest). The bitterness and aroma of the gentiana plant

 

Time to revisit this blast from the past after a morning run and a trip to drop the car off at the shop. Awaiting the damage report now. On the bright side, the sun is once again making an appearance!

I can understand how this is another polarizing barrel aged beer from Founders. Barrel aged IPA's don't seem to be the rage and my experience with them is hit or miss. This one works for me in a strange way like Fruitwood. It's very floral to the point of being perfume-like, especially in the taste and then the barrel appears to tame it down. A short blast of bourbon follows with prominent oak in the finish. The taste reminds me somewhat of The Oracle with a little age on it. Yeah, strange? I believe I'll try to find another four pack. I stashed a bottle from the last release for science that I'll have to try soon.

Having a Dutch weizen bier from Maallust brewery, on a sunny late afternoon.

Doesn't show clearly in the picture. But both bottle and glass are quite small in comparison with their German counterparts (and still even more expensive ...).
