Roggenbiers are incredibly hard to find in the US. Here's an Austrian example of this incredibly tasty style: Schremser Roggen Bio

Incredibly nice find. I have a local brewpub that makes one occasionally and it really is a lovely style.

Good morning BAs! Well, it's raining and cool here in NW PA - just a typical summer day! Today's New Breakfast Beer is a representative from brewery # 500 since I joined BA:

Back in 2006 I had the Brugge tripel when I was acclimatizing myself for a trip to Belgium so this wasn't the first beer I ever had from that brouwerij but it is the worst.

Errands run, coffees and breakfast delivered, it's time for a beer:

Another rainy day here, we may wait until tomorrow to head homeward. Cheers!

    It's New Beer Thirst-day

Triple D'Anvers which I am trying on this hot, sunny afternoon here. Belgian yeast, spicy hops, and at 8% it's clear the alcohol is well hidden. Another good one from the Kingdom of beer.

Agreed. I could drink this stout regularly if it was easier to come by. I really dig the roasty bittersweet chocolate. Cheers!

Spending the day in Bratislava, Slovakia, but so far my search for tasty local beer has resulted in a couple of busts. First I sit at this restaurant for lunch but their menu only lists "Blonde" beer and "Dark" beer without specifying the brand or style. I ask the waiter but he doesn't know (or understand). I ask him whether the beer is at least Slovak, to which he says "yes". However, I notice that the restaurant is sponsored (and only features glassware, umbrellas, and other decorations) by Plzeňský Prazdroj. This probably means that the blonde beer on the menu is Pilsner Urquell and that the dark one (which I ended up eventually ordering) is Kozel. So much for drinking Slovak.

At the next place we visit, I order a beer called Zdenov Horse. It's from a Slovak brewery called Black Rock and it's supposed to be an American Pale Whale Ale. However, this thing was infected beyond belief and stank of barnyard, brett on steroids and a landfill set on fire. I was done after two sips.

I also bought a bottle of a smoked porter to take back to my hotel in Austria so let's see if that one tastes any better.

Finding myself with a rare and hopefully short lived extended time off. So, guess I had better take advantage of these mornings and days of nullus debere. Figured a long visit with my old friend Rasputin was in order.

In roughly 9 and a half hours I hope to see a line of happy Penguins shaking hands with several dejected Senators after a game seven that does not induce cardiac distress. Game sevens are both wonderful and stressful. My first musical selection is aimed at paying homage to the game seven entity and perhaps butter it up for a favorable result.
