I'm glad you liked doom, I just think it'd be awesome to clear up barrel room space for a beer like cbs that has been so incredibly limited. It'd be great if it was released in a large enough quantity where if you wanted to make the effort it wouldn't be that tough to get.

I agree we had some this past Saturday during a brewing session.... It was probably the most barrel forward, bourbon note I have had in a long time...

Amazing stuff....There are many BBA Stouts to the point they are passe....But a BBA IPA of this quality isn't found as often.

Bourbon soaked oak in a bottle is what you will taste. To the unsuspecting they would think it was bourbon with some carbonation thrown in.

I see a lot of talk about more KBS & potentially CBS. While there was definitely more KBS to go around this year than last (at least in my area). I am not surprised at all by the experimentation shown by Founders in the Barrel-Aged series. After all, everybody knows that a stout can be aged in Bourbon Barrels, but what about a fruit beer, Imperial IPA, or malt liquor. So in that regard I think this is awesome, as it gives people a chance to taste what bourbon can do to a beer other than a stout. And yes, it might not taste like BA stout, but it effects the beer differently creating a new flavor profile. (This thought can certainly give you a new perspective, as you drink these unique Barrel-Aged Beers) Plus, while I can't speak for him, I am sure that Head Brewer Jeremy Kosmicki, definitely enjoys playing around with Bourbon Barrels.
    Cheers!

I don't understand all the hate for Founders trying to broaden horizons. Do we really need more barrel aged stouts? They're all over the shelves. Sure KBS may be "better" than alternatives, but passable barrel aged stouts are a dime a dozen. How many beers like Frootwood are widely available? Doom? DKML? They're pushing the envelope, which I'm all for. I mean, people were actually upset this year that KBS was too easy to locate around here. I was in Myrtle Beach last weekend and there was still plenty KBS on the shelf at the one bottle shop we went to. People getting all up in arms over Founders putting anything other than KBS or CBS in a barrel is frustrating.

And for those pining for CBS, I suggest you hold your horses and wait till winter...

Do you think they knew CBS would be such a great beer before they tried?? Stouts BA are a dime a dozen. Some better than others. I personally love the effort and creativity. No, sometimes they are a bust but thank you for trying like you did with CBS Personally, I liked Doom, frootwood, and Pam (after a year of aging). Just think what doom will be after hops goes away with aging! Good now, great later.

People keep mentioning CBS, other beers and the barrels. CBS requires different barrels so it doesn't make sense to just say use more barrels for CBS. Maple barrels are limited.

BA Sumatra, BA Imperial, KBS with Vanilla...those are arguments. CBS is not one of them.

Sounds yummy, but as we said before, those have been done before in masses by every other brewer. Wasn't Frootwood and Pam aged in maple barrels as the CBS is?

Doom hit by me a few days ago. Finally got around to trying one tonight. Simple take - boozy hop bomb now. Interesting beer that definitely changes as it comes to temp. I'm getting lots of bourbon barrel notes. Based on what I'm drinking right now, I'm actually really excited to try this with some age on it. I bet it will go from good and interesting to fantastic.

Absolutely! It was wasting maple barrels on Pam and Frootwood that will impact their production of CBS, not KBS, Doom, DKML, or BWB.

Pam was released close to a year and half ago so I would exclude that and chalk it up to experimentation. They did have CBS in kegs at the same time, spread out pretty well so it was available to try. One could make an argument with Frootwood but since CBS is returning end of year, it's really a mute point. Unless...there isn't much CBS to go around. I think it will be more limited than the other back stage releases but my guess is if you are trying, you will score some.

To your point, Founders always experiments, especially with one offs in the taproom. Rum barrel aged Porter they've had lately is great.

I believe you're mistaking Doom for DKML, which will be released in July.

Rum? Rum is the best - love Rum BA Stouts/Porters. Hopefully these hit distribution at some point.

I was hoping oh so much that BA Honeystuff was gonna be one of the releases for this year. Star of the Cellar Raid for me. Maybe next year, it really fits the theme of pushing the envelope as to what can be barrel aged and still be delicious.

Not sure how this will end up. I don't know if I will favor BA ipas. I'm sure I will grab some. But if it's. It good I'll have a hard time getting rid of it.

Couldn't agree more. Can't remember if I had this during KBS week 2016 or cellar raid 2016. Went specifically for CBS and I think I liked the Honey Stuff better. It was really sweet so the smaller pour went a long way, but it was one of the best beers I've ever had. Seemed people either loved it or hated it.

The Rum Barrel Aged Porter was not as good as I would have hoped. However, the Maple Syrup Barrel Aged MF Donkey Stout was amazing. Part of me believes that was better than CBS when I had them side by side at the Black Party.
