I was thinking about this and I'm interested in other members experiences with this situation.

Do any members share with their friends their trading partners? Basically would you recommend a trading partner to a friend?

I can see this causing issues. Is it bad etiquette to ask a friend who they get a particular beer from?

My regular trading partners are good people that are willing to go out of their way. So i would tell them if my friend had some stuff they were looking for. After all it's about sharing beer

The dilemma i was thinking about is, if you introduce a friend to your trading partner and they get to them first on releases you would normally be in line for. Or "outbidding" you on trades. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Is that person really a friend then? Honestly speaking my "beer friends" and I are all on the same page and are all acquiring different things so we can share between us.

That being said, maybe I'm under thinking this, but the few times this has ever come up, I've just asked my trading partner if it would be OK first to give his name to someone else. If he says yes, then I'd go ahead. If he says no, then that's that.

The few times this has even ever come up, it was only because a friend of mine was looking for a specific beer or beers (that my partner had ready access to), and involved a one time exchange. So there was never really any sort of a problem (just a friend doing a one time favor for a friend).

I guess I should add that I'm just not that competitive, and there's never been a time when I wanted a particular beer so much, I would try to grab it ahead of a friend. As cmukid mentioned, why not go in on it together, and then share when it arrives.

Sharing like in a threesome way? eww. No. But seriously, it's just beer after all. We should all be in it for sharing and enjoying not keeping some state secret. Well, as long as the trading partner is not Sergey Gorkov. I kid!
In line for releases via trading? Seems like some f#$ked up interpretation of trading imo. I think everyone loses here tbh. Good luck though.

Weird definition of "friend" if someone thinks this way and also taking trading waaaayyyy too seriously.

If you're concerned that your "friend" will steal your trade partner, maybe you're not that good of a trade partner to begin with?

Seriously, you're overthinking this. Typically, I can get whatever my trade partner is looking for if he's looking for beer from my area. If I don't have it, I'll try to get it. If I can't get it or if it's easier for my trade partner and someone else local to do the trade directly, I'll introduce them *IF* I know that the local trader is a good trader. A good trade partner will come back to you first and the cycle repeats. The only thing that matters to me is that my trade partner, especially long-term partner, gets the beer he's looking for. When that is your focus in trading beer, everything else should, and likely will, fall into place. If it doesn't, either you don't deserve it or your partner doesn't deserve it so... move on.
