well it's technically time to start this off although if people in hawaii are still drinking it's yesterday lol.

anyway i've always wanted to start this off but never can in the west coast, so let's do it!

Ack, woke up to find the electricity off in our neighborhood. Fortunately the beer was still cold but too dark to read labels. So I literally grabbed the first thing at hand . . .

The more things change the more they stay the same. Yuengling has tweaked their basic lager recipe over the years but kept the same profile which is an above average brew for the common man. Works for me.

Clear amber tone with mild/medium malt aroma. Little hop presence (had to search for them) but a malty richness absent from other AAL brands. Oh it's not first list, nor does it pretend to be, but a Mecerdes won't get you to the grocery store any better than a Chevy.

It also drinks well in a dark room illuminated only by the light of my laptop screen. After being fed the furry children said to heck with it and went back to sleep.

Anyway it's Memorial Day so I'll raise a glass to fallen comrades who aren't here to share one with me.

Good morning BA, have a great Memorial Day! Remember all of those who have sacrificed for the freedom of the US. I stayed home this year, as my parents took a vacation and would not be home in Ohio. I am going to do some work today to catch up with everything I am falling behind on, probably publish a couple reports. Did not do laundry yesterday, because I couldn't reload my charge card. I'll do that today.

Fantastic pale ale as always. Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with moderate caramel, brown sugar, and toasted biscuit malt sweetness; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel/rind bitterness on the finish. Very smooth medium body; balanced hop stickiness and bready Munich malt creaminess in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, with no hop astringency. Absolutely love the balance and the juiciness of the Cascade/Centennial hops in combination with the bready malt bill. Might grab more of this soon. One of my favorite pale ales of all time for sure. I should grab a pack of Mirror Pond next time I see a fresh pack, been way too long.

Insane DIPA as always. Bright hop flavors of lemon, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with light honey, bready malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine resin/spicy bitterness. Balanced sticky/resinous hops and creamy/grainy malts in the mouthfeel. Increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Highly drinkable and pretty crisp finishing. Very juicy/dank on hop characteristics and not overly resinous, just the right amount. Still one of my top favorite DIPAs after all these years. We still have BB July packs around, and they are still tasting fantastic. Victory uses a 5 Month window, so they are only 3 months old. Have 1 more left, got 2 packs of this batch.

Awesome scotch ale. Have been buying this a lot since I revisited it a month ago. I prefer Scotty Karate for the non-barrel style, but this is year round. Flavors of huge caramel, raisin, plum, prune, fig, date, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nutty malts; with lighter notes of peat smoke, chocolate, leather, tobacco, and herbal/peppery hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied creamy/bready mouthfeel; light sticky hops and chalky roast, with increasing bitter dryness. Very smooth, mildly warming ABV. Just a little too bitter and increasingly drying for the style; but the rich malt and fruity yeast complexity is completely spot on.

I remember being blown away by this when I reviewed it in 2014, so I bought a bottle yesterday. Bottled 2 years ago. This is incredible! Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, raisin, plum, fig, leather, tobacco, and light smoke/char. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel; lightly slick, sticky, chalky, and tannic. Lightly increasing bitter/tannic dryness. Super smooth, minimal warming 11%. Definitely worth another buy, still some lingering on the shelf in some places. The balance between malt, coffee, and bourbon/wine barrel notes is fantastic! Really amazing beer that seems to fly under the radar.

Boon Mariage Parfait Geuze (2013). Absolutely amazing and even better than the Cantillon I had the other day (but also matured for longer).

    Good Morning BA
Happy to be off for a few days. Please take time today to reflect on the sacrifices so many have made for our freedoms. To those who have lost family, friends or colleagues in active service, my prayers are with you today.

This was my choice for my 100th beer review here on BA. I don't spend more than three bucks a bottle often, but, when I do, I prefer proven winners.

Enjoy what's in your glass today BA!

At Munich Airport and specifically the Airbrau bar, drinking Airbrau Kumulus (a very tasty Hefe), brewed on location within the airport grounds. Combining my two hobbies (beer and aviation) in one single activity.
