So I find that I have become thoroughly tired of IPAs, DIPAs and virtually all variants of them as of late. I used to absolutely love IPAs. Heady and Pliny obviously at the top of the list and i have also enjoyed some offerings from Aslin and Moonraker lately. Aside from that though, I find myself at the point where unless I get any of those beers, IPAs just don't do it for me anymore and I am having trouble distinguishing differences in taste. I have gravitated towards stouts which I ultimately enjoy much more now.

I guess our tastes change, as do our taste buds. Anyone else going through this? Is this a sign of the market being unable to diversify or am I just going through a phase? Honestly, I feel like its getting harder and harder for just average beers to make themselves stand out. Maybe because there is so much out there. It is truly a good time to drink beer, but are we now spoiled to the point that its ruining it? It's almost like a high, and unless I get the best now, I am not getting that enjoyment.

I'm not tired of them as in I don't like them anymore. I'm tired of how many there are. I don't even feel like I could try half of my local ones, let alone nationally. It makes it almost oppressive. I get annoyed that 90% of my craft beer store emails are about such and such new release of an IPA. I love other styles too I just want some balance..

I go through phases where I'm more interested in sours, stouts or crisp, light lagers, but IPAs tend to be there waiting in the wings for me to return.

For every amazing beer, there is a drinker who is tired of drinking it. Or so the old adage goes.

Been tired of IPAs for a long time but I still like them. Just bored of seeing so many new ones coming out.

I seek out breweries that put out nice traditional kolsch, helles, porters, brown ales, etc.
I buy any Jack's Abby and Von Trapp I can find.

For hoppy beers I'm more than happy to buy just about any type of SN IPA, Dales Pale Ale, Montauk Wave Crusher (nice West Coast style) and the any of non-NEIPAs from my favorite local Barrier.

Don't worry man, take a break from them. They'll still be here when you want to revisit them.

Switch it up. It's not like there aren't a ton of beers of all styles waiting to impress your palate.

Try the other 60? 100? different kinds of beer varieties? Pilsners are awesome summer brews. Bourbon, red wine? Drink fresh, drink local? Spoiled ? No. Sometimes an excess of riches, yup.

Tired of IPA's? Never! Always ISO the most citrusy, juicy, dank, piney, resiny, tropical, bitter hop bombs out there. YMMV.

What works for me when I get tired of a style is trying one or more of the other hundred plus styles. I love em all but don't think I could get by on one or even a few.

I found the opposite has happened to me, never drank anything but big heavy dark beers. Stouts, porters, barleywines, scotch ales etc... now I'm heavy into IPA's and pale ales.

Seek medical attention immediately. Seriously, though, this is the type of thread that will generate response because like it or not, IPA is STILL the most popular style in the world, and growing.

I personally think it's great that your taste is changing. I sometimes fantasize about drinking other styles, but it never comes to fruition. I have tunnel vision. Celebrate your diversity. It's not boring.

    Cheers, sir.

Try looking at some other parts of the store for a solution. There are plenty of other options.

I'm not as much into IPAs as I used to be. I still enjoy a nice IPA, but higher ABV and freshness concerns combine such that when I open the beer fridge I feel a bit of a pressure to grab one of the IPAs in the beer fridge rather than something else. Intellectually I know that it's not a race to drink the IPA, it'll be fine in the beer fridge for a couple weeks if I just grabbed one every once in awhile but nonetheless the IPA stares at me every time I open the door challenging me to make sure I drink it down at the peak of freshness and so the stouts or what have you have to wait.

I still buy the occasional sixer of IPA, but its when I'm in the mood to drink IPA rather than to just keeping the beer fridge stocked for when the mood might strike me.

I realize it's only my opinion. Perhaps I should have relegated it to CONUS consumption. What is your opinion, sir?

I only like certain ones. Oskar Blues IPA, tropical bitch.....other than those I can't even think of any more right now, I'm very much into German styles right now like hefe and pils and Kolsch. Have had so many ipas they don't do it for me anymore. I don't know when or if at all I'll drink them regularly again.

But that's a 2 part process, as you know. It's not only about trying other styles, it's also taking them on their own terms. It's then that the love flows .
