Budweiser is enough a bad beer as it is. So counterfeit? maybe to flush the toilets.

They were producing "600,000 cartons of fake beer a month" but they could only afford the can seamer? It seems like even with cheap labor a piece-of-junk filling machine would have still made sense.

That is pretty gross. I had heard about knockoff Budweiser from some Chinese colleagues of mine, I thought they were exaggerating. This is far worse than I could have pictured.

I'm waiting for the video of the tub of " beer" to get spilled and the workers just mop it up and the mop gets wrung out back into the tub!

For the amount of work they are going thru how about just making their own line and all. Seems like they can turn out product, geese just make a watery beer and sell it.

"Turn into?" It only took one post.

I recall Sierra Nevada having a counterfeit problem in Europe. I don't know any of the details on that. I suppose the tone of that imaginary thread would be more along the lines of: "It'll hurt craft beer if people drink these terrible counterfeits."

Jack - You should check out the videos in that link. What do you suspect the TPO of that beer is? :grimacing:

The few workers they showed certainly didn't crank out "600,000 cartons of fake beer a month", even if they worked 24x7. Must have multiple lines, or exaggeration. Probably both.

With as much counterfeiting that happens in that part of the world, there apparently isn't much interest by the governments to proactively enforce. Chances are good that bribery is part of the equation. In second and third world counties bribes are a way of life, hardly surprising given low income and lax enforcement, and probably even encouraged to stick it to Americans.

I had to sit in the plush office of an airport official in a third world country in order to pay a bribe to get my luggage out of hock, because it had computer equipment in it that I was going to use to repair servers (for free) that had been given to their country in the first place. Didn't matter, he wanted his cut, which I recall coming to $50 or so, probably 10% of his annual salary. I just had to sit there while a local expediter handled it. Pretty sad actually, but rampant. Saw a LOT worse examples of what people are compelled to do for money, making counterfeit beer seem trivial.

I don't find Budweiser all that horrible a beer, it's a decent enough AAL. The fake Chineese stuff , why would I want to drink it in the first place?

You wouldn't but Chinese consumers will if it costs a fraction of the real thing and/or is easier to get. I doubt Fudwiser is being exported.

Same reason fake Vuitton handbags keep selling, the appearance. Even if the beer inside is fake just holding the can confers a bit of status in some parts of the World.

It might not sway Snow fans, but would appeal to some Bud fans. Kind of like the iFones available there - a lot of folks can't afford real iPhones, but the fake is passable and cheap.

At the risk of sounding like a Jerry Seinfeld sort of person my first 'reaction' was seeing that woman 'dipping' her hand into the beer.:grimacing:

I have a suspicion that @Alexmc2 reacted to that same thing?

So did the beer taste flat? Did people even notice or care? I agree that its not a terrible product (the real product) for what it is, but if random consumers couldnt make out the difference, I wonder what else they get away with.

I do wonder just how cheap it was compared to the real thing. Just like with shoes and apparel, most know what they are getting when its atleast 60% off of retail. Budweiser is so cheap, i bet they werent even selling it cheaper, just making a crap ton of money)

Dongguan has a lot of expats and a known bar street, probably easy to push off Budweiser in that area. Yet, with that said there's tons of places to grab a decent beer and or visit a brewery with solid choices "One for the road" and "liberty brewing" are my usual spots

Is there anything that won't get knocked off? I couldn't imagine how bad this version could be, probably on par with some stuff from lacrosse Wisconsin.
