Some of us have nothing good stored in a beer cellar and have to drive for a while to get to a craft beer store. If that isn't you, imagine that it is.

If you needed to go get something that you knew would be available near you, what would be your choice be for a celebration / special occasion beer?

I was trying to come up with one for a special occasion and I guess for me, it would be Rochefort 10 or Pannepot...

If I still lived out in the sticks stuck between three dry counties and had to drive an hour for beer...:

    Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter
    North Coast Old Rasputin
    Harviestoun Old Engine Oil

I still have to drive a good spell for the nearest decent craft beer bar where I can experiment with brews I'm not often seeing. Otherwise, I'm stuck with Guinness (and I was the one who had to tell the bartenders there not to chill Guinness glasses)

A fresh bottle of Imperial Doughnut Break. It hasn't failed me yet.

Rochefort 10 works for me and that store is 20 minutes away.

Stouts or barley wines are my celebration style, so one of them. Bomb is almost always available for me, and if I can't find that ten fidy or any yeti variant.

Before I finished reading your post, first thing that came to mind was Rochefort 10! All the other celebration beers I can think of are big BA stouts that don't meet the criteria of being available in stores here at the moment. I actually have a Rochefort 10 chilling in the fridge, starting to call for me. Kind of muffled sounding because the door is closed...

Péché Mortel would be good too.

Rochefort 10 is a nice pick. I might also go with Serpent's Stout or JW Lee's Sherry Cask.

Rochefort is about high in the Belgian yeast phenols, if you aren't a big Belgian fan and still want to try a quad at bernarbus would be my choice.

Speedway is great, but I'd make sure it's somewhat fresh. The coffee doesn't age well.

Probably rodenbach or duchess de bourgogne. Maybe st Bern 12, or a dragons milk bomber if all else failed.

I know this isn't about me, but I'm getting married Saturday. I am going to celebrate on Friday night with some BBA beers including Weyerbacher's Sunday Morning Stout, Lagunitas' High West-ified, SBC Toes Up with coffee, and Victory's Java Cask. I guess what I'm getting at is BBA coffee imperial stouts are my go to for celebratory beers. I hope you find something you enjoy.

Depends on timing, of course, but top picks for me:

    Rochefort 10
    Westmalle Dubbel
    St. Bernadus Christmas Ale
    La Trappe Quadrupel
Jester King something (Fantome del Rey, Atrial Rubicite, Gotlandsdricka, Dichotomous series)
    (512) Wild Bear

... or one of a number of weizenbocks with Schneider Weisse Tap 6 Unser Aventinus being top of the list

I would drive to Treehouse and buy whatever they have. I am an hour and a half away. Always worth the drive, especially to celebrate something
