I like to consider myself a fairly knowledgeable BA but I'll be the first to admit my knowledge and experience with Belgians is somewhat limited. So I was excited to see for the first time ever my local liquor store get a case of 3F gueze 375mls. So I promptly snapped one up and loved it.

Since I've never seen these on the shelves before I don't know what a fair price is for them. I paid $10, is that fair? A quick google search yielded some online sites selling for around $7. Thoughts?

FYI: I liked it so much that I'll go back for a few more bottles, $10 price tag didn't completely turn me off. I know Belgian sours are an expensive rabbit hole. I get that. This is more of a curiosity question.

I've only had it at bars, $14.99 is what I paid.

Sounds fair. I paid $20 for a 750ml recently and feel fine about that.

I have paid $9.99-$11.99 and those prices certainly seemed fair enough for me. The higher end has been what I paid most recently but that was almost half a year ago at this point.

On Friday I picked up a bottle at a local Whole foods in NorCal. Regular price is $12.99 (375ml) and $17.99 for a 750ml. (Was on sale for $14.39 and I so regret not buying more)

$14.39 is fantastic for a 750ml. I would have bought a case on the spot and taken advantage of the 10% case discount on top of that.

$10 is a good price, it's more like $13-15 here.

Nice, so it sounds like I'm getting a fair price. This store has never gouged on prices or anything but just curious what everyone else was paying. In Chicago these days its a rarity to see 3F on the shelf so I had no frame of reference.

Just curious - where in Ohio? I am in central Ohio and clearly have not looked hard enough.

Cleveland-area. I have seen 3F and Cantillon in several locales including Simone's in Lakewood, Sav-on in Mentor, and Red, White and Brew in Chesterland. Also, Vintage Wines out in Boardman carries these and much more. I have spoke to other BAs in Columbus, Cincy and Toledo and they have said the same thing you have...that these aren't available in your neck of the woods.

FYI, in most European online beer stores a 375 ml 3F Oude Geuze costs you €4-6 (about $5-7.50) so $10 sounds like a totally OK markup - not at all on the same level as the jacked-up prices you sometimes see for rarer sours in the US. So that sounds like a good deal to me!

sounds like a good price, I've paid $12 at a bar for it which I thought was fair even it if weren't at a bar.

$10 is a good price. I've seen some crazy mark-up for 3F/Cantillon stuff in the Philly area ($28 for an Oude Gueze 750ml...), so if I saw bottles on the shelf @ $10, I'd certainly snatch up a couple.
