While there's not much to like in the show, the tone of this thread feels unnecessarily harsh.

I enjoyed the Hawai'i episode, mainly cause I know the people in it. I was told the other episodes are brutal though, haha

I like this show so far....I've only watched the first 2 episodes but feel its worthy to fill entertainment time, especially when I'm drinking...Other worthy shows to watch on Viceland whilst drinking would include Bong appetite and **** That's delicious.

I miss Zane Lampry starring in 3 sheets....that was a great show to watch while having a few.

“…fill entertainment time, especially when drinking.”

Ah, maybe that is the ‘missing ingredient’!?! I watched the first episode stone sober and it was painful to watch.

    Cheers!

I'd love to hear the staff meeting at AB InBev about this show. I bet it would go something like this...

Exec #1: "How can we increase our profits with millennials? Seems as though younger drinkers aren't into Budweiser these days..."

Exec #2: "It looks like the Golden Road brand has some potential. How can we increase brand awareness in the craft beer market without forcing the issue? Let's not forget about that Bud American Ale incident..."

Exec #3: "Great point, #2! My son loves that Viceland program. He watches it all day in our basement. It's about hipsters, skateboarders and stoners. Sometimes all 3 at the same time. He thinks it's fantastic. I bet if we gave them a bunch of cash they could put together a craft beer show for us"

Exec #2: "Good idea #3, but let's not go too far into that craft beer stuff. We'll make sure we market it as such a program so we can look nice & trendy, but in reality it can be a roughly 24 minute AB InBev advertisement. We'll just do it real subtle-like. The kids will think they are watching a craft beer show but in reality we'll be subliminally feeding them the Golden Road brand....and we'll throw in Golden Road ads between all the other shows."

Exec #1: "MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!" *rubs hands together maniacally*

Something like that. God damn that was cheezy. I have too much time on my hands sorry :grinning:

Three Sheets was first (and better) =)

I watched part of the last episode and am considering watching the rest on demand over time. I like that it's a show about craft beer, though the host could probably be better.

I've watched the first 5 episodes. I'll give any show about beer and homebrewing a fair shot, but I don't know if I'd watch a 2nd season.

To play devil's advocate for a second here, it's impossible to judge every homebrewer in a given city, but you have to use discretion and realize it's a TV show for entertainment purposes. They're not giving out any medals or million dollar prizes. With that in mind, it's unfair to knock the show's premise. If nothing else, the show is shedding some light on the homebrewing culture for people who might not know anything about it.

As for the host, Meg can be off-putting and there is no shortage of cringe worthy moments. Maybe she'll improve with time, but I don't blame viewers for not sticking around to find out. That being said, I can't help but think some of the negative comments and criticisms towards her are a result of Golden Road's sale to A-B InBev.

I dig the homebrew aspect of it, but wish they'd focus more on their setups, processes, recipe creation instead of the beer culture angle they seem to be going for. The show seems to dedicate a smaller portion to the actual beer being judged and a bigger portion to what people who are into beer are like. I get it, just would like more homebrew process/setup and less everyone hi-5'ing each other around a campfire during sunset. Just a personal preference though.

I've only watched bits and pieces when I catch it on TV. The host is pretty bad. Every time I've watched her try someone's homebrews, her reaction is always the same. I've heard her say to three different people "That's a damn good beer" then give a shitty description of the beer. For someone who is a professional brewer, I'd think she could give a little bit better description of what the attributes of the beer are. Then she always gives really bad criticism, not really constructive in any way. Like others have said above, it seems pretty obvious that ABI just paid for everything on this show as a season long advertisement. It's not the worst show on TV, but I probably won't fill up my DVR with it.

Is she a brewer? The Golden Road page says she was a founder of the brewery.

Ahhh that would be my mistake then. If she isn't a brewer, then that makes it even worse that she is going around critiquing other people's beers.

Not sure if you're a homebrewer or not (I am not), but my guess is people who homebrew would want more of a focus on that aspect. But for the overwhelming majority of other beer drinkers who don't, too much focus on it might turn them off to the show.

The people behind this show want as many viewers as possible so I get why they don't spend too much time on the actual brewing part. It seems like they're using the show to try and convert new drinkers over to beer so the show isn't tailored to homebrewers who already drink beer.

Or maybe they just really suck at making a beer show. Who knows?

:astonished: I've heard there are entire websites where people (the vast majority of whom are probably not professional brewers) do that, too.

I agree with you on their target, but I think they could achieve that without the homebrew angle. If you're going with a best homebrewed beer contest as a premise, it would be nice to see more of their setups, process, etc, but that's just my opinion. Even if the show gets one person into brewing or talking about brewing to their friends/family, it's a success, imo.
