Great tasting pale ale brewed close to where I grew up on Chicago's SW suburbs.

I couldn't find any fresh stovepipes of All Day so I bought this instead. It sure brings back memories of the old grenades! What could possibly go wrong?:astonished: No tune because of terrible cell signal.:slight_frown:

Ayinger Lager Hell. This style is a typical every day beer in Bavaria.

Overall this Ayinger Lager is rather tasteful for a lager and has a wonderful mouthfeel (someone should find another word for this). I could drink this every day :grinning:

    Cheers!

    Score 3.42
    look: 3.5 | aroma: 3.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.5

Light golden color with disappearing white cap.

Aroma is subtle giving off a clean scent of light malt and slightly spicy hops.

Flavor is smack in the middle of the pack for beach brews generally. Very similar to the popular AAL lagers without the heavy adjunct grain middle. Just has a cleaner overall flavor than, say, Coors or any of the Lights.

    Mild texture and spritely carbonation.

Light in color, flavor and texture just as it was intended to be. The low ABU (12) removes it from competing with the more highly hopped European lagers yet it does have their general sense of completeness which I find lacking in most AALs which tend to have some rough edges. No worse than the others I mentioned and I can get it fresh.

Good afternoon. Hope all is well, and by the looks of it, everyone is at least enjoying a liquid journey through the aggressive extraction of hop oils and barley essence. Ok, that's about all the artistic prose I can stand to muster up.

So I'm catching up on some cellar fun, as demonstrated by this 2011 Stone RIS.

Looks good and smells decent, but one odd aspect of the oxidation is that after inhaling it, I'm left with a sensation of powder in my nose, which carries with it a cross between carob and molasses. Taste goes the opposite direction almost, as it has more of a "beer" taste, which may sound like a ridiculously obvious way to describe a beer, but most all of the chocolate, coffee and molasses flavors are at best, more subtle than when fresher, and at worst nearly absent. What doesn't help is the stunningly thin body. I'm thinking the sweet spot with this beer is 2-4 years. Any problems I have with this beer is self inflicted. No more hanging on to these for 6 years!

So something that does hold up from 2011

Are you in RVA by any chance (Hardywood and Stone)? I lived there for a few years while going to grad school. I'm in the Midwest now but still miss the dirty sometimes.

I left in 2014 and was back once late last year, but haven't been to Stone.

    Very interesting, indeed.
I've had a couple Columbus single hop offerings in the the past but nothing as memorable as this.

Decided to stick with only three beers for Saturday's AAL tasting, so this one that I picked up the other day as a "familiar face" beer to compare the new ones to is being drank early instead.

Yep, original Coors -- this time in one of those aluminum pint bottles. Just a bit too much beer for my glass, had to drink a sip off the top before I could pour the last little bit in. Smells of corn and husks, tastes "beery" with some noticeable malt at first but also lots of sweet corniness. There's an odd sort of Play-Doh or almost bubblegum sort of thing going on in the sweetness, don't remember really noticing that the last time I had this beer. Carbonation is abundant, very fizzy and burp-inducing.

Not a beer I'd want to drink every day, but it's not bad. I actually think I might be enjoying it a little more this time than the last time I had one, since the sweetness is coming across more as actual flavors and not just "there's some weird sweet thing in here" every now and then. I gave them similar ratings when I reviewed them if I'm remembering right, but I think I definitely prefer this to Budweiser. Will have to see how the "M" of "BMC" stacks up against the other two when I try my first High Life as part of the AAL tasting this weekend.
