Good Morning BA, have a great Saturday! Looking to be a nice day for weather, rain only forecasted for later this evening.

Fantastic Gose as always, glad this is back in season. Flavors of big tart/sour cherry, lemon, lime, green apple, wheat, cracker, coriander, sea salt, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate fruity/lactic sourness and lightly spicy finish. Balanced cherry/lacto acidity, salinity, and light grainy wheat creaminess in the mouthfeel. Highly drinkable and refreshing, slightly puckering. One of my all time favorites in the style. I definitely drank over a case in the last year. Does not feel quite as lactically sour this year, but still fantastic and easier drinking. Almost finished my first 6 pack, already bought another.

Delicious pale ale. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with some light honey and toasted bread malt balance; herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; moderate hop sticky/resins with some balancing bready/grainy creaminess. Increasing resin/rind dryness, minimal hop astringency. All around crisp and refreshing, with a great hop profile. Will keep buying this one(same with pretty much all of the other Tallgrass beers). This brewery has so many great offerings, I have been a big fan of nearly all of the ones I tried so far.

Excellent NE IPA! Flavors of big lemon, lime, tangerine, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, melon, grapefruit, guava, papaya, and light pepper/pine hops; with balanced wheat/biscuity malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied bready/grainy creaminess and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Minimal dryness. Insanely drinkable, almost refreshing. Pure tropical/citrus fruitiness. Not really all that dank, but it fits the style bill perfectly. Glad this is seeing more distro soon, along with the fruited variations.

The wax smells like hazelnuts haha. This was fantastic! Minimal head retention and lacing as expected. Plenty of alcohol legs on the glass, with streaming carbonation. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, hazelnuts, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, fudge, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, and raisins. Increasingly boozy aromas, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate bourbon/oak spiciness and roast bitterness on the finish against sweetness. Fairly full bodied creamy/silky and lightly slick/syrupy/sticky/chalky/tannic balanced mouthfeel. Lightly drying from spicy alcohol and oak tannin. Pleasantly warming alcohol, not much booze. Dangerously easy sipper. Not as thick or viscous as I expected given the ABV. Never overly sweet or cloying against the bourbon/oak tannins. I still haven't had Black Tuesday, so I have nothing to compare this against. Overall I was expecting something similar to Hazels Nut's from Odd Side on the hazelnuts; but this seems to be way more balanced overall on the barrel, hazelnut, and malt character. I have a Chocolate Rain in the cellar right now, hope it blows me away like I remember from 3 years ago. This is definitely worth a look for the price. 4.3

Pouring the beer and taking the selfie, I felt like I needed an extra arm (just my innate incoordination). I enlisted the aid of my wife, who agreed, providing she wasn't in the picture.

Side by side Duvel selfie Saturday:

The original had thicker puffier foam and longer lasting cap. Both are chrystal clear with heavy lacing. The Tripel Hop is less bitter and less clovey with a slight citrus twang along for the ride; a tad more spice in the nose of the original. Same crisp, clean, medium full mouthfeel in both. Overall, I prefer the Tripel Hop with the subdued cloves flavor.

Cheers to the Devil in you today!

What? No Duvel? My regular beer store left me twisting in the devilish winds yesterday...but I will be back, Duvel in hand, and scary selfie to boot...I think I have like 6 of the cool Duvel art glasses, so will have to get creative!!

Thanks @LeperJim - for another fun event!

In the meantime, celebrating getting the majority of the sanding and varnishing done on my project sailing canoe....hope to lace the new sail onto the spars, and get her ready for some H2O!

Cheers you all and Happy AAL tasting and Drink with the Duvel Day! I have modelo especial. I have found that the AAL is a bit misunderstood. First let me say that I despise a sweet finish in beer and unless the malt is "bud light" I think that corn can be a good addition to beer. Our own @JackHorzempa make s a classic american pilsner and it is very flavorful. If the pale lager or the euro pils was the example that led to the AAL then brewers did in fact cheapen the beer over time. Taste one ad see what I mean about the malt character being "cheap". In beer the pleasures to the senses abound and in this style the one thing that ruins a beer at the start is the skunky smell form a light struk clear bottle.

This beer pours with a bit of yellowish color on a good gold body. very clear with a fast falling head that dissipates to nothing over about 10 minutes. It does try to hang on though and I would say 3.5.

The nose is at first eclipsed by skunk and it's persistence accents the modest amount of sulfur that should be in the beer and is. If not for the skunk you would smell a bit of malt with a roasted corn aspect. Not as light as cracker which is what you get with all pils malt. Low hop presence not moderate and again ok for the style. Slight herbal and if you stick with the nose you can find the hop floral which is also modest. That floral tells me that the beer is still relatively fresh. Sulfur a bit of dms. ruined by the skunk. 3.00

The taste does not show you that skunk. In fact the hop is quite pleasant. That is the spirit of it. Pleasant not strong. The malts are crisp and dry. Not as elegant as pils malt. Let's say it's like the difference between speaking proper Italian or a dialect. In English there is no equivalent to this idea at least not yet . Finishes malty with a bit of a fruity ester and a modest unattenuated sweetness. The hop bitter is perfect for the style on this one and they have the hops in the right place at the right time , in the right proportion. 3.25. the dms becomes more unpleasant as it warms.

Mouithfeel crisp with a moderate bubble and mostly and I mean almost all the way dry. so very good. 3.5

Overall impression. Not bad. It is not smooth nor elegant like the pilsner but it's not supposed to be a pils. It also is not watery or tasting like colored water like some AALs. The corn does not leave the sour taste of boiled rice water like the rice lagers do and I prefer it. If it was not for that skunk this would still be a 3.25. overall but not something I would be afraid to have in my glass.

PS I took that series of selfies while singing the theme song to Gilligan's Island . Cheers!

I have to hit the road soon and will be gone all day so won't be able to partake in most of the fun, but it's not like I am going to miss DWTD 666. That is a once in a lifetime opportunity  No deviled eggs, devilish concoction, or devil dog today. However, only the finest beer will do for this occasion

Good morning, woke up and the cat was running back and forth across the bed saying, "It's Duvel Day! It's Duvel Day!"

Which is odd, because usually he's saying, "Pet me! Pet me!" (Of course, we think this cat is at least 66.6% dog). Either way, I tried to get a selfie in for the theme. But the cat was not to be deterred; he really Loves this theme day!!

Very devilish, if you ask me. So I decided to go down to the kitchen and I saw Pooh setting up his post for the day:

I said, looks good, but if you aren't drinking it now, it doesn't count. So he asked for help for proof (since he only has two arms):

    Then we conversed,
Pooh: You know what'd be fun?
    me: No, what?
Pooh: If we put a hat of one of my favorite teams on you, and put you in a photo where you act like you are liking the beer I am drinking.
me: Actually, I think that'd be stupid, who thinks of stuff like that
Pooh: Do it anyhow or I'll maul you...

me: Told you it'd be stupid

Random "Love" label was the only one in the cooler - and it had the same dates as the others. The Duvel works in mysterious ways. Watch out, today, BAs!!!!

Even more Jesus, from Evil Twin.
First time trying it, Pours a brownish three inches head lasting for a bit. The beer is black, very dark.
Aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits.
Fairly enjoyable, probably my favorite from evil twin so far.
