    What's next?

I got into beer in 2011 and have seen through the years styles that everyone jumps on board with. From my recollection, the hyped styles have been.

    West Coast IPA
    Barrel-aged Stout
    Berliner & Gose
    American Wild Ale
    New England IPA

Of course, all of these styles are still being made, but NEIPA is the craze right now. What style(s) are on the horizon in your opinion?

I'm waiting for a noble hop craze. I won't hold my breath.

There is a definite trending in that direction, I feel like I see a new "Zwickel/Keller/Other lager variant" on the shelf all the time, often from some sexy, new, cool-kid brewery.

Then again, this could be wishful thinking.

Last summer (2016) I had a series on the weekly New Beer Sunday threads entitled "Summer of Pilsners". During this past winter for a month+ I had a series entitled "Winter of Pilsners".

Over the past couple of years I have seen more and more craft brewed Pilsners on my local beer retailers shelves. I am starting to wonder: how many new craft brewed Pilsners can the craft beer market support?

For some reason the words of "hyped" and "Pilsner" just do not seem to go together. Probably because for the hard core beer geeks, lagers are not a cherished type of beer?

Anyhow, I am of the opinion that craft brewed Pilsners will continue to be "popular" for the near futures but I am reluctant to use the word of "hyped" here.

    Cheers!

Pale English Milds would be great, but that's mostly because I don't have one yet:wink:

They were for a short while before they were given the ABA category. I think that some of the popularity died after a judgement was passed on the name.

That would be great, but Pale English Milds have about as much a chance as English IPAs. I would love to see it just because it would be comical to watch. Those are my favorite beers of all!

The availability of English beers here in the U.S. has seriously declined from what it once was. We were inspired enough to take a beercation to England for our 25th wedding anniversary. If I could get my hands on some Bateman's XXXB I would be in 7th heaven !

I used to sell that beer back in the 90s here in N.C. It did OK, and I loved it also. I still have an awesome old circular ceramic Bateman's bar sign. It;s a classic.

Fresh British beer (i.e., on cask at a British pub) is indeed a joy to drink. Old bottled British beer is a different story altogether.

    Cheers!

I would venture to say cask ale is going to be coming down the "craze" pipeline sometime soon. The texture and mouthfeel focus right now in NEIPA I think will transition into cask. We shall see tho!

While I would love to see more cask ales (ESB) I think we are more likely to see NE IPAs roll into the cask realm and supplant it rather than it taking a step back to the more classic styles.

That's an easy one, the next craze will be:

West New England Barrel-Aged Brett Salted Lambic IPA Stouts.... it's a hybrid style.

Seriously though you forgot fruit-infused beers in your list, and if I had to hazard a guess I would say something Saison-related is lingering on the horizon - perhaps an Imperial Saison or something along those lines (wishful thinking as I love Saisons).

Now that the summer months are almost upon us, I'd like to see more of the so called "American Pale Lagers" or "IPL" style. I find it to be the best of both worlds: crisp, clean and refreshing, yet hoppy and flavorful like an IPA. Perfect "session" brew.

I think the NE IPA is going to a tough one to overcome. They are super popular because hype and they are able to be released frequently because brew to can time is very short.

That doesn't take away from the BA soda stouts which are still the king of hype they just can't be released as often.

Those both still don't take away from the hype of wild ales which are very high on the scale. They also cant be released as often but also are volitile to brew so the very good ones are few and far between.

The biggest hyped style right now its none of these. Its something that doesn't even feel as hyped because lack of availability prevents too much talk. It is Lambic. The top name lambic is so tough to aquire you see people trying to get into the lambic game with all 3 other super hype styles or spending new money dollars on 3rd party sites.

The next hype beer will still be an attempt to break into getting rare lambic.

Bateman's was one of our 1st stops when we made the trip. That and their Victory Ale was once readily available here. Sadly that time has passed.
