XXXB was a robust ale, but so well conceived and delivered, I'm afraid it was overlooked. Here, there was really no marketing behind building the brand, other than the love for it by those that sold it. Truly, this brew was a forerunner of standard modern brewpub offerings. Good ales for everyone!

Hyped and popular are different things in the beer world. IPAs are popular, but New England IPAs are hyped. I would think Cream Ales is a great answer for the next popular beer style, because I'm seeing more and more locally all the time and lots of people are starting to get into them. Hyped? No chance.

Might be another Sour style I'm thinking since Sours/Wild Ales as a whole are getting more and more popular constantly.

I feel like the IPA sub-category has been done so many times, NE IPAs might be the last "king" of hyped IPA sub-categories.

So obviously being one who enjoys traditional English ales what are the best that you find available in the U.S. now ?

For me, it has been hard the only ones that I see on a regular basis are samuel Smith's and Fullers. Sam Smith's Winter Welcome I liked for a long time but feel it has faded over the past few years. Fuller's 1845 I still like but it is not available here.

Lagers and session beers are on the rise. Pilsners have already reached new heights of popularity. Helles and Vienna lagers seem to be getting big. The craft "Mexican lager" thing is going on. Goses and Berliner Weisse continue to grow in popularity. I think we're going to see more saisons, especially lower abv ones like the "grisette" sub-category become more popular, and fruited beers will continue to be the norm.

As far as big, over-hyped whales go? Dessert beers! You have breweries like Mikkeller, Omnipollo, and Tired Hands churning out ice cream and milkshake-themed beers. Even "dessert IPAs" is practically a thing, since a bunch of them are made with some combination of oats, wheat, flour, lactose, vanilla, and fruit. Flavorings and adjuncts have been all the rage for years, obviously, but now people have a sweet tooth. Everything has lactose, vanilla beans, candi sugar and fruit in it.

Fuller's is always very good and fresh here. The Samuel Smith range works well any time, particularly the Oatmeal Stout.

I hope you are wrong here. Everyone and their mother is already making saisons, if not 13 different varieties, and 90% of them are awful.

You mean like a Keller Pils?

That’s the spirit! I do enjoy drinking a good Keller Pils; for example Sly Fox Tettnang Keller Pils is AWESOME!!

    Cheers!

No, as the title of the beer indicates it is hoped with Tettnanger hops (typo above). It it had been hopped with Citra/Mosaic/Galaxy I would have considered the beer to be an IPL.

I enjoy IPL beers too like those from Jack's Abby. Has Jack's Abby made any cloudy IPLs yet? I wonder if the cloud formulating particulates would stay in suspension after lagering?

    Cheers!

    P.S. It's all good!

I hope so, the few I've had have been excellent, but I think the next hyped style will be a variant on another style. I'm hoping we see more fruited saisons.

    Really?!?

Aussie brewers haven't cottoned on to making Saison varieties yet - so I haven't tried these awful Saisons, maybe it will happen soon though, there are plenty of crappy fruit-infused beers here now.

Enough with these pilsners over hopped with juicy hops, they taste terrible. Why bother and just stick with your IPAs? Some styles do not benefit from "experimentation and innovation" - just seems desperate to seem different.

On the cover of this months Craft Beer and Brewing magazine; Fruit Infused Beer. While I feel it was intended for the saisons, wild ales and the lambic's; I do see this trend growing in other styles as well. I think this is the year of the fruit, spreading through many different styles.

It's going to be the hazy NE influenced train for a while.
So, I think the next one is going to be nebelgoipa.

I enjoy Lefthand Sawtooth, and as more of an everyday Firestone Walker DBA. I know theyre not England brewed by any means, but David Walker is English I believe....

If you ever find FW DBA on nitro, get it!
